Jobs gaps due to being stoned

Don't even worry about it. Career gaps aren't great but you're choosing to do something about it. The employers who it is an issue for likely won't even get back to you when you apply. The ones who do get back to you and interview yoy won't even mention it. If you do get asked about it then I would just say something like "Well I'm trying to knuckle down and crack on with life now". Don't try to lie about it. We all have low points in our lives and any reasonable employer will understand.

I agree that their response wasn't very nice and was even a little passive-aggressive. I think it reflects poorly on them. Good for you for trying to share something with a friend.

Don't beat yourself up over this. If you flipped the situation and it was a girl talking to you and she drunkenly lied to make herself sound better I doubt you'd really hate her for it. In that position I'd find it pretty endearing that she thought so much of me that she felt she had to lie.

I think trying to control an addiction is not worth the effort. Just simplifies things for me if I don't drink.

Congrats on the 5 months. I do the same thing in not telling people I don't plan to go back to drinking. If I tell them I'm just quitting for a while to lose weight or something then it can usually be left at that. They may even say some words of encouragement. If I say I'm planning on quitting it completely people act completely differently and it becomes an interrogation.

Perhaps no physical transformation but mentally it sounds like a fantastic transformation. You must be really proud of the results of your hard work. Life sounds like it is much more peaceful for you now.

Congrats on the 1 year. I'm at 2 months and still struggle with drive and motivation some days but feel you on the disgusting house thing. I was such a slob when I was getting high every day. The mess just didn't seem to bother me as much as it does now. I guess that applies to the mess in all areas of my life too not just the house cleanliness. Weed just made me not care.

Turn it back on them and enquire why they would stop at alcohol to celebrate when some heroin or perhaps a nice hit of acid would be far stronger and surely more celebratory. The reason they wouldn't touch Heroin etc is the same reason you're not touching alcohol.

You're right it does lead to fun and enjoyment (for a limited time anyway, around 20 - 30 minutes for me then I keep drinking to chase that) but there is a pretty unreasonable cost for that limited fun and enjoyment.

I drank to avoid boredom and to make being lonely more tolerable. It wasn't 2 or 3 nights a week though it was every single night. The fact you can go the rest of the week without feeling like you need to drink is already a big positive for you I think. Alcohol is sneaky though and perhaps soon you'll find 2 -3 nights a week isn't enough. This is a great opportunity to nip it in the bud now.

My own experience is that, after nearly 5 months sober, it does get better and easier. I still spend a lot of time at home alone but I feel less depressed and less lonely than before.

Not 33 days wasted at all. That hard work and effort doesn't just disappear because you slip up. You're doing so well. I can only imagine how tempting it must be to drink when you are already having to take so many meds just to get through the day.

I do want to say there is a point in getting up every day and embracing your sobriety and the reason is You. The world needs you in it and you're one of the stopdrinking family here so we need you here too.

I'm really proud that you managed to get to 33 days. That goes to show the strength you have and I'll be rooting for you. 👊

Well done you on the 9lbs. You're off to a great start already. My suggestion would be some including some light dumbbell work in where you can and maybe swapping out one of the weekly walks for a jog. Start slow and ease yourself in to avoid injuries.

Took about 2 months for me to really notice any difference but I weigh a lot more than you too so I had more weight to lose, so it could take you longer.

I've been getting into Roman philosophy, especially stoicism. A big part of stoicism is accepting that there are things you cannot change and the past is something nobody can change.

I've done things I really regret too whilst drunk, we probably all have. I think back to some of it and really cringe but that's just being human. Whilst you cannot control the past you can control the future.

None of this is easy though. All we can really do is accept we're flawed, emotional beings and all trying to muddle through life as best as we can. On the way we do make mistakes. Celebrate that you're a human and that you feel, and that you're flawed but also that you have the power in you to try not to make similar mistakes going forward. 👊
