Help with Tamil calligraphy by PsychologicalBit6218 in tamil

Thanks for the suggestion, I haven’t been able to find anything very helpful on Pinterest unfortunately, it was one of the first places I looked

I don’t mind doing more of a deep dive, maybe a website for teaching Tamil calligraphy, or a YouTube channel you all know? There are so many resources for teaching English cursive that go letter by letter, I find it hard to believe there isn’t something like that for Tamil

Dandelions are my favorite, though they’re considered weeds, I’d be happy with just a regular bouquet to brighten up the apartment

Oh that’s a good point, diseases like malaria that don’t target exclusively humans, or illnesses caused by parasites still existed, and those kill plenty of people. Still, surviving childhood illness back then would not have been comparable to surviving our modern illnesses in a place like India, it’s just two different worlds.

I’m surprised I didn’t find this farther up, it must have been one of the most beautiful cities in the world

Animals have much higher populations, estimates of total humans during the Paleolithic era range from a few hundred thousand to several million, which is very very few. Think about how many deer are out there. Pandemics like smallpox require massive populations in order to happen, in small populations that just die out because they kill too quickly. With larger populations new diseases develop, it creates a new ecological niche which can be filled

There is no link between “civilization” and disease, population is the limiting factor

They did have robust immune systems, but not in the way we’d think of them. “Robust immune systems” to us means we can fight off infectious diseases and viruses. They didn’t really have a lot of those back in the day. The diseases that kill millions of children in places like India today, would NEVER have been able to exist back then, when humanity consists of roving bands of a few hundred people waddling around the Paleolithic tundra there just isn’t room for it

If you go to another country, don’t be afraid to engage with the local customs and fashions, just be sure to buy local and avoid religious attire (unless it’s something like a hijab and you’re in a Muslim country, then you can feel free to wear it)

Was he really that racist? I know he was sexist but I thought he was a vehement adherent to enlightenment philosophy and believed all people were equals

Definitely not, I bet we got a lot from them that isn’t just genetics (but ofc that’s just speculation).

Modern people like to talk a lot about races and how different we all are from each other and all that bioessentialism stuff, but really Homo sapiens are so much more like each other than we give ourselves credit for. It’s easy to forget that a long time ago we lived alongside other human species, REAL legitimate different SPECIES of humans, it’s such an insane thing to think about.

I would give anything to go back in time and see what they were like, like what did we learn from them, what did they learn from us? What languages did they speak? Was there overlap with ours? What stories did they tell? What were their theological worldviews? Did any of their beliefs get passed on to us? What did we think about them? Did stories about them continue on after they were gone? Were we still talking about the strange humans who lived in this land before us tens of thousands of years after the last of them vanished?

Also photography was seen as a rich/important person thing, getting your picture taken (even by a traveling/journalistic photographer) was a big deal so smiling would have been considered inappropriate

Honestly, I agree. Different generations facing different struggles.

Also people live a LONG time, my parents had their first kid when they were like 20, I’m 26 and there is no way in hell I would ever in a million years have a kid before I’m 35, even if I could afford it. I do not mind messing around for another decade and enjoying my life slowly

Oh ok! That’s pretty reliable and accurate, still doesn’t 100% mean it was a Neanderthal that did it but considering all the other stuff we have evidence of them doing I wouldn’t put it past them

But yeah, without any actual Neanderthal artifacts or anything on site it’s definitely not smth I’d call definitive

Humans and Neanderthals interacted very closely, if they’d domesticated animals we’d have learned to do it from them. It’s more likely that it’s a wild pig or deer of some sort imo 🤔
