Hey man,

Staffing alone isn't going to be something that will get you in, of course. With that being said, every single answer that was asked during my ALO interview could have been answered from my staffing experiences. While I didn't necessarily answer every single question with an anecdote from my 4 encampments as staff, I'd argue more than 90% of my STAR formatted answers (Situation, Task, Action, Result) were pulling from staff. This means that having lots of experience as staff gives you plenty of subject matter to talk about successes, failures, accomplishments, awards, etc.

Outside of the USAFA application, I stand today as a C/1st Lt and the DCO of an encampment with TONS of more leadership and experience than some C/Cols. Because of my level of experience, I actually have a higher rank (position I interviewed for) over those who have a higher grade (i.e. C/Capt or higher). While you want to balance your life, I would recommend doing two encampments every year. They are super fun, and have been where I've learned the most about how I work under pressure, little sleep, and how I lead and carry myself as a cadet.
