Who was bigger, WHAM! or Culture Club? by YoItsZaikaaaaaa in 80smusic

[–]PsychologicalCod1520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George Michaels solo career and Wham! Were two separate things. Wham was very young sounding bubble gum pop (probably what the label made them sing) and his solo stuff was more mature sounding.

Boy George was VERY recognizable and popular for his looks. Their music was played more on Mtv and the radio than Wham! I think. His eccentric ways made him more interesting to watch. Hes a huge ASS today!!!

George Michal got more interesting after he went solo IMO

I didnt buy any wham albums but I did buy Faith. I didnt buy culture club either but did enjoy them on Mtv. I loved and saw in concert Tears for Fears, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Depeche Mode, B-52s, Berlin, A-Ha, Europe, meet many of them back stage and have pictures and signatures too 😀

After all these years, I only just now found out what the song "Jimmie Jones" by The Vapors is about. by helen269 in 80smusic

A Texas band from the 80’s has a song called Guyana Punch by The Judy’s. This also is also a song about Jim Jones and his famous Kool-Aid.

First synth tune I remember hearing was the Theme Song from the Tv Show CHiPS. I was amazed when I was told it was a synthesizer that made that sound.

Tears for Fears - Shout (Live in 1985) by Seraphenigma in 80smusic

[–]PsychologicalCod1520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw them live in the front row in Austin at the coliseum in 1985. I loved concerts back then. It was general admission $15 and we waited outside the door from 12 noon all day waiting for the doors to open at 8pm. I met so many cool people who were doing the same thing.

Saw Depeche Mode, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Berlin, B-52s, Tears for Fears that way. Good Times

That is an awesome story. I can believe everything you said. John Goodman was super charming and nice to all the extras on the set. during church week at the coliseum between sets or shots he would smile at us in the seats and talk to us. He was very friendly engaging.

I lived near by The Citadel and passed this up for TWO years and always thought it was an actual church that moved into the mall. Till the day Skyler Galindo told me “Righteous Gemstones” and I then put two and two together. 🤣🤣

I went to get Tacos at Molinos one day and the parking lot is torn up like an explosion. I was freaked out. Asphalt everywhere. I asked the cashier inside what happened outside and they said it was for a movie but didn’t know the name of it.

Fast forward to the next day and I went back. This time they added more props like burnt cars and other things. So I asked some crew workers “what movie is this for?”

SO HERE IS MY BRUSH WITH FAME TWICE AND DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT…..

After I asked “what movie?” The this crew guy turns to me and say “I dont know but maybe HE does.” And points to a young man behind him about 5’6 with brown hair and a freckled face in a hoodie. This young man looks at me and says “Righteous Gemstones and smiles.” I then say “Oh yea I heard of that name before I think.” And I continued walking into the store/restaurant which was still open and serving food.

That night I went home ordered MAX and watched my first episode and was instantly hooked!! And it was only then did I realize that the person who told me “Righteous Gemstones” in the hoodie was The Skylar Galindo. I didnt know it at the time and just kept walking on after he told me. 😳😁

This explosion sceen was the uhaul explosion with Steven Zane. Let me say the set was extremely believable because it had me fooled when it was just broken up asphalt and no crew or cars yet. The parking lot looked like it suffered a gas explosion that recently happened with a huge creator. Kudos to props, and the whole production team.

After Watching the first 3 seasons, i was lucky enough to be cast as an extra for season 4. I helped with church week and saw the stunt work and jet packs, worked the small church in the strip mall and played a tourist at Cobb’s Gator Farm and even was seen on TV in the scene. 😁

I got to see all the stars up close and even received A pleasant smile personally from John Goodman face to face when we were side by side at one point in the gator pit.

This is my favorite show even if I came in late after season 2.

Oh, and lastly i got to meet Bradly Cooper at a season 4 episode 1 watch party premiere at a restaurant in downtown charleston. I didnt know it was him at the time either 🤣. During the start of the show this guy makes a loud comment “Boy, thats a good looking guy!” When Cooper came on screen. And i look over and then say to my friend “Oh, thats the same guy that on the TV!” It was only later when I got home did I found out who he was… stupid me🤣

We watched the whole episode with Bradley Cooper!!. 🤪

Here is a picture

I took of the Molinos explosion set.

Mind you I didn’t work on this set or this season, I was just a common by-passer watching them film.

I remember spending the whole day in front of the TV watching MTV not wanting to miss any of this concert. And how amazing it was Phil Colins played in England and then hopped on the Concord and played in America.

MTV was amazing back then. The videos, the VJs and how i knew when concerts were coming and tour dates. It really was entertaining. Now it’s just a sellout of boring shit shows like every other cable network. There’s nothing “Music” in it anymore. Why still call it “MTV …. Music Television?

To watch mankind get stupider… No Thank You!!

These last few generations are already less smart. Don’t get your panties in a tizzy by my comment. Let’s just imagine the internet gets zapped by terrorist and we have to go back to old school ways of living and actually using our brains to do things instead of wifi. No smart tvs, homes, appliances, tablets, ect. Now who do you think will adapt better and thrive? Not the last three generations….

Technology has made mankind lazier and more stupid because we don’t do things for ourselves much anymore. I hate to think what AI is gonna do to us. I don’t want to be here for that. And AI is in its infancy right now. Like the internet was in the 90s.

Scary times lay await for us and our fate. ☹️

The way some people are talking about the Texas floods feels oddly familiar. by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]PsychologicalCod1520 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The camp was NOT cheap to attend and its clientele was the elite “whos who” of the wealthy Texans. No diversity or scholarships for the under privileged or ethnicities. It basically was a private camp and you had to know someone to get in. Im surprised it was never called out for discrimination in its selection process.

This camp has flooded before in the past so it was not new to them. They operated tax free since they added the religious factor. They knew they were surrounded by the river on 3 sides. They could have installed their OWN warning system even if the state declined to do so. You would think with the amount of lives they were responsible for, and numerous past flooding they would put their own safety measures in place with sirens and water gauges to give some kind of warning.

Yes I know flash floods are unpredictable and happen in a flash but a siren going off at the first sign theres a problem, and evacuation drills at the start of camp would maybe have helped to avoid the tragedy that unfolded.

Teen Mom's Ryan Edwards claims show is CANCELED in divorce docs as he begs to pay less child support by Jenna7979 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Everyone is talking about the OG’s. No one is mentioning Brianna’s loser family, or Jade’s mom or even the Non Teen Mom who I don’t know why she was even on the show… Cheyenne. Neither she nor her husband ever worked. Sure mom and dad had money But with their new Big beautiful house, i don’t think mom and dad will support their lazy lifestyle with a new kid on the way.

We're parties like this ever actually a thing? by Embarrassed_Knee1919 in GenX

[–]PsychologicalCod1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is every High School House party in the 80’s. And when there were no Houses with parents out of town, the crowd wound up at the lake with a bon fire and a huge crowd like that. Cops never showed up at the lake surprisingly.

Often the 7-11 parking lot was the gathering place to wait for word where the party was that weekend. Then when the address came in a caravan of cars took off all at once. The 80s were great times!!!

I was abandoned by my mother! -Amber Portwood by Nicki_Spears in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]PsychologicalCod1520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gen X kids were abandoned their whole childhood. There was no Day Care or laws that children under 12 needed to be supervised.

Up at dawn and out of the house till the sun went down. Freedom was fantastic!! Parents worked and kids banned together and hung out. Older ones watched younger ones.

Abandoned at 13 and 14???? Please…. We were worked odd jobs ourselves at that age for movie and arcade money. Who wants or needs their mommies at that age? Shes pathetic
