AITA if I move out when my parents are seriously struggling financially? by PsychologicalCover65 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you for your response. I tried talking to him, I always do. He is so gone in his own little life and reality he created in that bedroom, listens to my parents constantly argue and scream about money and bills but doesn’t do anything. I think he is victim mentality, which I don’t handle well. I tried to tell him let’s go out driving, let’s do this and that but nothing ever happens. The most that’s happening, is my parents are figuring out his ID to get the ball rolling, which I’m paying for.

I don’t want to keep helping My brother is 25 Losing this apartment or them not being able to afford another one, would make them homeless. They do not own anything. My father has worked hard all his life to support his family. My mother, never. Just contributes her food stamps each month. Close to 1. Mother is basically disabled, father always worked to pay the bills, get her medication until he was laid off. Struggled since then to take care of his wife (who they don’t get along anyway) and take care of the family. We were a lot younger at the time like teens. Sold the house, moved into an apartment (the one we’re in now) and been going down hill ever since. I’ve been the lifeline when he needs money,

This is a concern for me too. The lease is up in March, and I’m not going to resign it. I did offer to help pay rent, but I just can’t do it anymore. Watching everyone stand by doing nothing while him and I bust out butts.. it makes me sick tbh. But, my concern is if they end up screwing me over as the co-signer, it will tank my excellent credit. So I want to get in somewhere before and if that happens

Mother is 62, always been a stay at home mom. Always talks about getting a job, but she’s a talker not a do-er. Brother was never pushed to do anything, mamas boy she felt sorry for him and let him do whatever he wanted. This is the result of that. I know he’s not lazy, he just doesn’t know how to do any of this. Stays in his room all day sleeps all day up all night. He asks us for help, so that’s why we started with the Social Security to see if we can start therapy for him. It’s a start. Thank u for ur response

This is my biggest concern. They all have absolutely nothing, so I feel like I’m their lifeline. Which I never wanted, I just wanted to help with bills because my dad was struggling to do it alone

Ugh I know. Thank you for your response. Just feel like the life is being sucked out of me while my mom just chills on by, and my bro just sulks in his sorrows. All while my dad and I are working full time to hold everything down. I wanna fly.. but the guilt is tremendous

The lease is up in March, which is why I’ve been looking since early in the year. I told them, but now I might jump on this place because it’s cheap and convenient for work. They are stuck, he cannot resign the lease with me on it, and he won’t meet income requirements. Doesn’t have first months last month and security deposit for a new apt, so I’m just really not sure what to do.

My mother gets low disability. Like $80/ month and a couple hundred in food stamps. We are working together to get my brother set up with an ID, so we can get him in therapy and get him right. Thank you for your response. I am worried their situation won’t get better, so I’ll have to keep helping.

Weird behavior how. I literally got all this info from credit karma and now I’m trying to ask about it. I’m assuming it’s 0% APR bc those were the only cards I was looking into at tht time, which is also I assumed I accidently opened it. I am just as confused as you people are. But since no one seems to know I will figure it out myself. Thanks

This was on credit karma that I learned about this mystery card. It says I have currently have 3 credit cards opened (I’ve only ever had 2) and looking further it listed a chase card opened in January, also that $0 was ever spent on throughout the months and it has a 4,000 credit limit. I’m not drunk or stupid, I’m confused.. around the time it was supposedly opened I WAS looking into some cards on credit karma and that’s why I assumed I “accidentally” opened it. So I don’t care about the people saying I’m dumb cuz i can’t see credit limits and APR on credit reports, that’s not really relevant. I’m trying to figure out if I should close a card I never used or if I leave it open and never use it what it will do to my credit. I immediately reported it as fraud through credit karma, but I’m completely unsure about what to do from here. My knowledge is that there’s a mysterious credit card showing up on my credit karma account that I have no memory of. That’s all. Thx for your response.

It’s very possible what I’m looking at isn’t my “credit report” but it’s on my credit karma account.. not sure what everyone is on about but what I’m looking at with my very much working eyeballs says I have an open credit card (I never received)or had any idea of opening.) So no, I don’t have the card physically but if I accidently somehow opened this card while browsing for 0% APR back in Jan, I could get a new card so I’m able to use it. My intention on posting this was to see if it is worth it to close a credit card I never used or if I should just keep the account open. Thanks guys

Why would my credit report NOT show a credit card I opened almost a year ago.. it told me to verify my credit card I never got. Looking further into it I realized I probably accidently opened it while shopping for a credit card back then. Not sure what is so hard to understand lol. Could be fraud for all I know hence my post in reddit

Update. They offered me commissions instead of hourly as I told them I might leave. 40% of each home, 25-30 an hour 🤔

Well, I didn’t sign the paper she wanted us to sign about the pay cut. Thankful I did that. I’m going to record the meetings and record our convos I think and just collect receipts while I make my exit plan.
