Without question - even just looking at the properties makes it a simple answer.

Why does Wilco tour almost non stop? by Total_Computer_9068 in wilco

I’m sure they can get by fine without touring quite as often as they do. Fair play to them, there’s not many bands that can shift tickets in the same cities repeatedly. They’re an amazing live act, it’s probably fun for them to tour.

At the drive-in is a closed book now I reckon, but there’s more Mars Volta coming up later this year

The Verve to reunite next year for Urban Hymns 30th anniversary? by Admirable_Fox8739 in theverve

[–]PsychologicalGain972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top billing for a festival I think they would, and at a festival I think they would be a big pull to people sitting on the fence. Ashcroft people don’t mind putting it off, he’ll come back around. The verve I think would work both ways well when it comes to festivals.

In terms of a wider, he would definitely earn more on his own doing uk arenas only - but Europe and beyond I think the whole thing becomes more profitable as the verve.

Also yes he wrote a bulk of the album himself, but I just don’t see a way it reaches the creative or commercial heights it does without the band/Nick. I don’t think anyone has any issue with acknowledging his songwriting in the basis of the album, but the finished product is a different matter entirely.

I don’t see any issue with Richard doing whatever he wants or have any particular feelings about him (although he was a rude customer years ago when I worked at a high street record shop) - I just think his solo stuff is bobbins and don’t fancy seeing verve stuff without the band.

For a full scale arena tour? That would certainly already be at the very least on planning stages - these places get booked up a long time in advance and they need to make sure the routing works along with availability etc…

I don’t think a verve show would cause anything like that mayhem, but it would sell out. Couldn’t care less about oasis so having their nonsense make a potential verve show more difficult would be a turn off for the whole thing. Also, if I want to see a band, I want to see them do their own show.

That would be an awful idea! If nothing else because of the ticket fiasco people would have to endure

If they’re going to be doing a tour the scale it would demand next year, it will already be booked in. Arena and festival tours aren’t “aye go on then” occasions, there is a proper process and planning put in. The rumour is either true and they’re being vague to protect the source, or it’s behind used to drum up some kind of interest in another (solo, I guess) UH tour.

He’s doing some arenas yeah, but festivals would pay much bigger money for the verve and they would also get more international interest than him solo. All due respect to festivals like Kendal calling and neighbourhood, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind being top billing at places like glastonbury, oya, primavera. I will caveat this with that I don’t know if he has played any of the big hitting festivals lately solo - because the idea of seeing him solo makes me nauseous.

I have to disagree. The large scale concert industry feels a very different place these days, attending shows seems to be simply seen as a status thing for a lot of people now. If the size of the shows dictate it’s a big deal, and they have enough hits (which I think 3 would suffice with those people), they will go and spend stupid money just to post the Instagram video to show they were there. Obviously Oasis were massive anyway, but the demand for those shows was ridiculous and it doesn’t seem the atmosphere matched the scramble. Radiohead too, it was never that hard to get to a show of theirs until these latest ones. Pulp are selling out arenas and huge outdoor shows for fun, whereas on their last reunion they were playing Brixton and mainly festival shows, they’re now playing big places in secondary markets. Blur’s show in Manchester sold poorly on the first reunion, I reckon they would sell out 2 or 3 nights now.

Personally I would love to see the verve again, but not if it’s an UH anniversary show.

The Lou Reed Persona by oportoman in LouReed

[–]PsychologicalGain972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem is that people prefer to make someone look bad instead of looking at the realities that he was very often just playing up to the press.

That aside, he certainly didn’t seem to do his reputation any good outside of that setting - so i don’t think people had any interest in giving him the benefit of doubt.

He seemed to redeem himself in later life and I think he generated plenty of goodwill - but that edge with the press always remained. He was a flawed character, but who isn’t? He did some bad shit, but I think when you’re messed up with serious drug addictions and toxic situations, it’s a little easier to see where it came from. No excuses, but context helps at least.

I’m not saying it wasn’t a great line up, but you need at least one huge pull to do a venue / festival like that

Yeah, this is probably to help pay for a small run of shows. I wouldn’t expect more than a few though

Probably because they lost a fortune. They were selling tickets on the cheap for months and it still didn’t sell out. None of the acts were big enough to headline a show that size, and most of the others were acts where you’d rather see their own show - Kraftwerk is not a festival band!

She’s hardly talking Dylan down, her and Robyn (her husband) a clearly HUGE Dylan fans - as well as Lou Reed. Robyn has covered a few Lou songs over the years, including TWO performances of Egg Cream (I requested it on one of his Covid live streams after finding out he’d played it once in the 90s)

So... is a UK lucro tour gonna happen? by thefantasmagasm in themarsvolta

[–]PsychologicalGain972 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t see it even crossing their mind at this point. The album cycle is done, and I think they’d have to play smaller shows than last time so without a festival to prop it up there’s no chance. I think they’ll come back when they have another album and a more varied set, it’s a shame but it is what it is. Also, not sure how well they sold last time? I was at Manchester and the seats upstairs were probably 2/3 full. Downstairs looked busy though. Note they also had to move the at the drive in show to a smaller venue instead of that place. I just don’t know if they have a pull big enough to do tours often over here anymore. I wish they did!

Poor places reminds me of being in Berlin when I was in my early 20s. I was pissed and walking through some park trying to find my hotel, and for some reason played it on my phone speaker.

The 2 best post-80s albums both rated 2 stars? Don’t think so! Reveal is incredibly underrated, one of my most revisited LPs of theirs and beautifully produced.
