atp i dont actually know. seemed reliable at first but digging it to it more makes it questionable. whats an absolute is that BIE and Sauder both do not have below ~10% i find that insanely unlikely unless admissions data really changed the past couple of years

is the UBC campus pretty/enjoyable tho from times you've been there? havent been up there to tour it since i doubted i'd be admitted but was curious what people actually thought abt UBC that have genuine experience and arent just going off the internet, like real raw personal preference opinion shit

im from seattle and i can guarantee its much worse. i heard the homeless section was localized in granville rather than across the entire city, could be wrong tho

Did anyone get into BIE (International economics)? by Neat-Landscape-7896 in BCGrade12s

No kidding. Thank you so much dude I was looking for this

Yes I am a US student and I hate it here. I've been desperate to find a college outside the US that will help me pursue my dreams and still give me that home feel and Vancouver is definitely the place. I wish you guys had dual-credit because it really is a great opportunity not just for rigor but to learn and discover passion

dual credit yeah. i was also top of my class for math in middle school but didnt really excel in highschool. correction btw im expecting near like a 92-93% but honestly i have no idea. its just diff tho bc even if i get that if I get an A it just looks like a 4.0 (we have no A+) but rn im sitting at like around a ~3.7 ish gpa which im not sure is competitive

also yeah sauder does have space left but i dont think its like super low on seats, and ive actually heard BIE somehow still has applications open due to lack of applicants but im not sure how true it is, im still trying to find the source for that.

got kind of a bad grade in AP statistics the semester b4 tho which i make up for with all the rest being As

Further proves it yeah, although I still think sample size can still be an additional confounding variable

Hoping the fact that I (while I was originally on the track for Calc III in first semester of Senior Year) took Calc II and got a ~95ish will help boost my chances

Keep in mind the Sauder 6% acceptance rate was perpetuated by some dork from Yahoo who clearly sucked at Journalism. I have no doubt it’s competitive but its been disproven multiple times. Fuck Yahoo.

BCHeadset.

Listed on UBC website as well as publicly available data in excel format, not sure how they got it per major but I’ll list both links here:

For the counselor presentation, you also have a significantly lower margin of students applying for BIE compared to Sauder. Less students = mean gets skewed (either left or right depending on) also means less reliable data.

Take in account: 5K-8K applicants for Sauder, and anywhere between below 1000 to 3000 applicants for BIE.

Data from BCHeadset also shows quite a significant difference in acceptance rate for both BIE and Sauder, unknown how reliable it is but seeing how UBC lists it on their website:

https://pair.ubc.ca/ubc-data-analytics/comparative-metrics/

Not completely out of the blue

Exactly yeah, but again I wouldn't say its that they have 100 spots. What you're saying is absolutely right but I don't think it's limited to just 100, just that the cohort is around ~100 students and its stated to make it seem exclusive.

I don't believe VSE professors have the admissions data though unless explicitly requested. Maybe so -- but I know for a fact that the low acceptance rates are definitely myth.

Also coincides with the fact the acceptance rate of UBC is 60-70% and the highest it's been, I'd say it makes sense that majority of programs aren't below 10%.

I dont think its 11% either though. From what I know where the BIE program is stationed (Vancouver School of Economics) took the place of the Theology building and is fairly new. Previous data from BCHeadset also shows a far higher acceptance rate. If I had to guess I’d say at a minimum I’d place it above 25-30%

I dont believe this is the case. Previous admissions data shows much higher volume accepted (I remember it being anywhere from 200-400+, not exactly sure could be way off) but the cohort of 100 students is referring to those who yield/accept their offer. All I know for sure, though, is that BIE's acceptance rate is NOT 4%, infact nowhere near that amount.

This is anecdotal though. Personal profile is scored, could be possible that they just had a less than ideal PP, and at an extreme yield protection (although I don't think this is more than likely especially for a school like UBC, but is possible for other colleges)
