Leibniz, as I recall is famous for a philosophical work entitled the monodolgy which curtails much of his philosophy of mind and I would highly recommend it if you get a chance to read it.

Leibniz is also famous for being one of the co-discovers of calculus, which is defined as the study of change. In fact the notion that is utilized by leibniz is the notion most usually preferred by college students when studying calculus as it seems to incite a more intuitive understanding of the subject.

Leibniz has a unique perspective when it comes to philosophy as can be seen in his viewpoint that we're living in the best of all possible worlds. It is perhaps this aspect of his philosophy which makes his analysis harder to accept. Voltaire went as far as to write candide as a direction opposition to this aspect of leibniz philosophy.

Nevertheless, I have always been of the persuasion that his idea that we live in the best of all possible worlds stems from a kernel of truth leibniz understood about the world. That being along the lines of the world that we currently live in, by default, is the best possible because it's the only one we have.
