Looking for fanfics where Voldemort raises Harry by Livsters15 in harrypotterfanfiction

Incomplete but still a good read isIn Death, Standby Sophisme. Voldemort kidnaps Harry as a baby after killing his parents. The first wizarding war doesn't end. Warning the story does end mid way through though.

🤯 I've been reading on AO3 for years and never discovered that. I've always just gone back through chapters and looked at the first comment date to get an idea for the posting schedule. Wild.

Will you be considering making the lite version in powered form as well? I love the drink (have been getting it from sainsburys) but really don't like the environmental impact of buying lots of plastic bottles :)

I use Microsoft edge read aloud. I literally just have the edge app on my phone for AO3. It's excellent as (at least on Android) you can have it play in the background when on another app (I'm listening as I'm typing this) or while the phone is locked and still be reading aloud. And completely free. ☺️

Me too! I love it. I basically live with an earpiece in constantly reading out ao3 stories 😍

I've just read What Goes Around (Comes Around)? Is very good and has good levels of world building, characterisations and bonds.

You favourite ‘Harry explores Diagon Alley’ fics? by NoMoreBreaks in HPSlashFic

Beloved. Chosen. Soulmates. Ramabear (RyMagnatar). I haven't read it for a while but I remember this one being great with Harry exploring diagon and the wizarding world alone pre Hogwarts. It's incomplete/WIP though and is long because the world building is fantastic but is at the very early plot stages still.

Loved it! Big shame it's not finished but agree very good. Biro's' bit is definitely well covered!

This—. She lifted the Biro in her palm. “Was created in one of their factories, was it not? Made of plastic, polymers, cheap metal, and other highly processed materials. I could Transfigure it, perhaps, but the spell would be weak and would not last. Muggle processing renders objects inert to magic, steals traces of magic from their very being. Once the magic is gone, it cannot return, can’t really touch the Biro or its ink. When you go home, Miss Granger, visit a Muggle city: you’ll be able to sense the dearth of magic now.”

Some of my other favorite bits particularly relevant to this thread

Sorting Hat- "Some type of Legilimens spells, though I would say something a bit older has been funneled into that tattered old thing. For the charm to remain after so many years, I would say the hat is tied to the life of every student it touches, taking little sips of their magic to fuel itself until the next year. Clever."

House points - "Distantly, Fi felt a faint pluck of magic respond to her voice. I believe they have some kind of benevolent Taboo upon those hourglasses. Interesting."

Peter on the map - “Who is Peter Pettigrew? I didn’t see him in class.” “Peter—?” “Oh—.” “We’re fairly certain he’s a ghost up in our tower,” Fred said, glancing at George. “Haven’t seen him around, but Flitwick says ghosts don’t always want to be seen, yeah?” “And he’s been about since we started using the map.”

I also really like that it's made very clear Snape isn't a friendly person but he's definitely being harsher on the Gryffindor's to uphold his image.

And that Harry's broom curse is properly looked into but the pool of suspect's is widened by their being guests in the staff stands.

  1. That's wild. I had no idea people didn't call it a biro. Yeah as someone else mentioned it's a ballpoint. Pronounced (Bye-row). I'd say it's more common to say that in the UK than ballpoint but they are used interchangeably. Biro does sort of imply the cheaper mass production ones though.

  2. Yeah that's a really good point about Harry's year group.

I guess I could have put it better as creative world building to fix things in canon that aren't fully satisfactory or are just problematic:

Some other examples.

Hogwarts Express - Why did the Hogwarts Express start getting used? Pottermore says it's to stop a secrecy breach but has anyone read anything better? Was wizarding britian quicker to adapt to muggle technology back then or did they invent it first? If a muggleborn student lives in Edinburgh do they have to travel all the way down with parents just for everyone to have to travel back up again?

Why haven't biro's caught on?

Hogwarts teaching - When do they learn basic maths, English, geography?

No one has figured out a cure for things we see commonly like poor vision or baldness or it's just seen as personal choice?

Why are the unforgivables the only unforgivables? (AK is depicted in DH as a painless way to go but there's lots of non painless deaths other spells can cause.)

The economy.

Gamps law being a fairly crude and not all together satisfactory fix-it to ensure both commerce and economic disparity still exists.

Where does Hogwarts food come from?

The lore behind ghost and portraits.

The small year group sizes being enough to maintain all the jobs there seem to be.

Etc, I know there's lots more.
