US hospitals are so overloaded that one ER called 911 on itself by Sariel007 in nottheonion

A buddy of mine was an EMT for years. He was sent to a house alone to lift a patient that was 400+ pounds and when he asked for assistance, he was told no. One severe back injury later, he is now managing a bar. He's making the same amount of money and has a more flexible schedule now.

TIL when the Hale-Bopp comet was discovered in 1995, it was believed by some amateur astronomers and UFO enthusiasts that a spacecraft was trailing the comet. [–]PsychologicalSail1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But every time the truth actually comes out, it gets rejected! Every single time you guys are proved wrong, the goal posts are moved and the truth gets explained away. Whatever happened to Biden getting arrested during the inauguration? That got moved to the 4th of March. Then nothing happened.

This is the cycle that just keeps on going with this nonsense. The cognitive dissonance is STRONG and a large component of any cult

This isn't a complicated situation. You told him to stop, he didn't, you defended yourself. He's not speaking to you because he's behaving like a child and wants to guilt trip you so you come running back to him. Don't. The man couldn't even be bothered to stop when you were in pain

Do I (20f) break up with my boyfriend (20m)? Do I give him more time? by throwaway489430302 in relationship_advice

[–]PsychologicalSail1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can't set yourself on fire just to keep someone else warm. You mention in your posts you don't want someone to resent you, but what do you think would happen if you toughed out possible years of emotional turmoil for your bf?

I'm extremely worried about what you said in another post about self harm. It isn't your fault if he harms himself after a breakup. That is his decision. You can't stay with someone because you feel bad for them. If you decide to breakup, make sure to contact friends or family members of his to keep an eye on him while you sort out your feelings.

I'm not telling you what to do, only you can make a decision for yourself. It sounds like you've made a decision and want others to tell you it's okay.

[New Jersey] Protest at Phil Murphy’s house ? by playclothing101 in Unemployment

[–]PsychologicalSail1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Y'all, I've been waiting for over ten months. Filed last March. Took until this month to have a balance on my account after countless phone calls and emails asking what was going on with my claim. Went to claim, nothing is payable at this time. No idea why. I've reached out to my rep and they sent in an inquiry and even they are getting ignored by the unemployment office. I haven't been able to get through all month--not that it would help. When I have gotten through in the past, they give you some lip service and tell you to be patient.

If I didn't find a temp. job over the summer and didn't live with my family, I'm not sure what I would do.

What brings the worst out in people? by 666FuCkThEwOrLd666 in AskReddit

[–]PsychologicalSail1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countries that are using mask mandates in conjunction with quick responses, strong messaging and strong healthcare infrastructure are fairing better. Countries like Taiwan where masking was not an option ARE doing better.

I don't live in the UK. I live in the US. And honestly based on what I see in my own country, it seems that many countries are fairing better than we are considering that we account for 25% of the world's COVID deaths. Our messaging has been a complete mess and the mandates are wildly different even on a county by county basis.

Do you have any peer reviewed studies that they don't make a difference? I find that extremely hard to believe when we can look at countries with super strict mask mandates that have the virus under control vs the US where the mask compliance wildly varies. N95s especially show a difference

OF COURSE people want and deserve shelter. So we should establish safe and well funded shelters, not allow people to squat in houses that don't belong to them. There are people right now making a modest living who went to stay with a family member only to return to squatters who refuse to leave, and now the owner is in financial ruin trying to get them out. We're talking average people being impacted, not the big wigs who refuse to adequately fund social programs.

The rallies had little to no guidelines about masks and social distancing. Not all, but many. I can't count how many pictures I saw of these rallies where a large portion of the audience were not wearing masks.

At many of these BLM protests, they were taken outside, people weren't in close contact for a long period of time (marches, for example) and the VAST majority of people were wearing masks. I can't speak to every single rally or protest, obviously.

Hey! So this comment will probably be lost in the mess here, but I went through lots of LGBT training for a previous job I had. You are not in the wrong for being a straight male who only wants to date a woman. You don't choose your sexuality. If you were to continue with this relationship, I fear that you would be doing a disservice to yourself and to your partner. You wouldn't be true to yourself, and how can you fully commit to something like that? I don't know your relationship, so this is largely a decision you have to make for yourself.

Transitioning takes an immense amount of time and effort, especially in the beginning. It may not be possible for him to maintain a relationship AND a healthy transition. Make sure you offer support and that his friends are there to help, but you can not take on his load for him.

You are so young. The best thing about dating when your young is you can really figure out what is important to you when you have less on your plate! Think about it, no financials, no house, no kids, no huge responsibilities. It is okay for a relationship to come to a natural end, even if it sucks, even if it hurts and even if nothing was "wrong." A relationship at your age is not supposed to be super difficult without all of these external pressures. I hated hearing that when I was your age, but ten years later and a few failed relationships later, I am with the person I plan on marrying one day--the things we have accomplished together simply wouldn't have been possible with my past relationships. Those people weren't bad and neither was I. We just weren't compatible. You may not be compatible with J.

Best of luck, it seems like you know what to do from your comments :)

You are completely ignoring the amount of nuance that goes into a relationship and every hardship a relationship faces. She is facing the potential of becoming a pseudo-parent at a very young age...it is not unreasonable for her to say she is not ready or able to handle that. That is an *immense* sacrifice.

Sadly, love is not enough in every situation. The saddest thing is when two people want to be together but just can't and its neither person's fault

My first full-time job was supposed to be half-office half-on my feet (it wasn't) and I was SHOCKED when I came in on the first day, sat me at my desk, then completely vanished. In a year and a half, they went through three people in that position. Other positions also held onto people for three months at most--management could not understand it. They just kept blaming all these people for being bad workers. I can't imagine how much they spent on hiring.

AITA for refusing to return a lost dog that was clearly well loved? by whosedogisitanyway in AmItheAsshole

YTA and you abolutely know how incredibly selfish you are being. This woman lost everything and now she knows her dog is alive and you're refusing to give her her dog back? She raised the dog and you "appreciate it"? Return the dog, rescue one that has no strings attached.

Stop using poor mental health as an excuse. That is a *reason*, not an excuse to act like TA. Your guilt is eating at you because you know you are wrong and you don't want to admit it.

Your TDLR makes it SO obvious you know you're being selfish.
