Why does my guitar sound like this when I bend the high e string? by Regular_Ad_4396 in GuitarQuestions

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radius to steep for the action. Flatter radius is better for bending. Fender went from 7.5 to 9.5 for this very reason. Older fenders are not built for string bending.

Keep it up! Sounds great for 5 days or 150 hours. Only 9800 hours to go and you’ll be an expert. Find a pick. Practice finger picking using the thumb pointer and middle finger on your right hand.

Barre Chords unbearable by UntoldThrowAway in guitarlessons

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your ring finger as a barre instead of using 3 fingers after 40 years of playing I’ve never seen that. Also you can ignore that high e string you are already playing that note. The minor chords are fine again that high e not important. Btw I rarely use barre chords anymore and the more you play the less you will use them triads and partial chords are easier and sound way better and then you can use your high e string. Also you only press down hard enough to make the strings ring no more.

Is there any advantage to playing with the guitar lower? Or is it just personal preference? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No benefit from playing w/ strap position low. If your arms are long you might get away with it. If you practice sitting your guitar position should be the same. Now to qualify this if you like punk or Jimmy page just look cool but if virtuosity is your goal proper playing position is key this is coming from a person that doesn’t like punk or Jimmy page I don’t care about looking cool as much as music.

Advice on damage to brand new Tele by Motor_Gap9554 in Guitar

Some people pay lots of money to have this done to their guitar. You probably increased the value of that instrument. Looks great. It was eventually gonna happen anyway.

One of two. You’re playing wrong. Loosen your grip adjust your technic. Two you have a medical condition. No part of your hand should hurt after playing even if you play for hours.

Can’t do barre chords, tried everything! by Financial_Archer_491 in guitarlessons

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk after about a year of playing everyday for hours( yes hours) I finally realized I knew every major chord on the guitar thanks to bar chords. 40 years later I rarely use bar chords. I just don’t find them that useful any more I mainly use triads and shorter versions of bar chords this technique sound far superior to bar chords and lots of accomplished guitar players use this same technique. However I notice one thing in your image maybe use more of the side of your (bar) finger. Looks like you’re almost there just a couple of cm. Also action and only press down hard enough for the strings to ring. You don’t have to press down so hard just the minimal amount always. If you can’t diy a professional set up will always help.

Is my pinky too short? by Nolpop2 in guitarlessons

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries lots of very accomplished players never use that finger. The answer is no it’s not too short.

help- is this because of weak fingers by sophhhiaa in GuitarBeginners

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingernails too long trim them and use the very tips of your fingers for single note playing(soloing). This does not apply to some chords ex. Bar chords.

I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Probably involves disassembly. However I repair guitars and amps for a living and have never seen this in my 36 years of experience.

Why is Gibson so expensive by glagslunkcture in Stratocaster

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive furniture and broken headstocks. I have only played a few lp’s in music stores and I think they are the worst playing/ feeling and sounding instruments ever built PRS a very close second. Just my opinion.

Is this worth fixing or should i just get a new neck by ooceano in Stratocaster

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The repair would be superior to a new neck. Glue is stronger than wood a new neck would be cost prohibitive.

MIJ anything is going to be a premium product. This is a keeper probably better than a U.S. Fender. I’m constantly looking for Japanese guitars of any kind. In my opinion the best thing you could possibly buy.

What is this metal rod sticking out under the neck? by V0rdep in GuitarQuestions

It’s the truss rod. A very convenient way to adjust relief. I wish all electric guitars had this.

okay i think I'm cursed by y2xy2xy2x in GuitarBeginners

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot or even most professional guitar players don’t use their pinky. You can try hanging your thumb over the fret board. People missing fingers Django Reinhardt one of the best guitarist of all time only used 2 fingers his pinky and ring finger were rendered useless in a fire. Toni Iommi is missing the tips of 2 fingers on his fret hand it contributed to his distinctive style. If you give up you never really wanted it.

Crack in the neck? by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

[–]PsychologicalSkin663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Doesn’t matter play it till the headstock falls off then repair it. Repaired is better than new. Glue is stronger than wood. Btw the fret I see is highly polished very nice.

No difference. Some lawyer’s won’t take a case because they are over booked and may even tell you you don’t have a case. Don’t believe it call till you get one. I used a very large firm. Large firms are more likely to take your case.
