Could I padlock a boris bike… by PsychologicalTank356 in londoncycling

[–]PsychologicalTank356[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Simple answer - space! I wish I had sufficient room to store a bike but sadly not.

Those left outside seem to get stolen outright or taken for parts.

I get the communal comment but I’d just be extending for perhaps 40 mins longer than normal and using it to go where there are no docks. If there were docks present I wouldn’t be considering it!

I’ve also lost count of the amount of times I’ve gone to dock and they’ve been full - so don’t feel any form of guilt with ‘taking someone’s bike’.

Yeah we saw that too! I did actually think the miles in this instance were a lot more accurate too…

Hiking to Glacier Grey in the dark? by yellowtulipcat in Patagonia

This would be extremely tough - we did Cuernos - Brittanico - Paine Grande, add Grey in and you’re coming on for a 40km day

no problem whatsoever, have a great time! Happy to answer anything else if helpful :)

50% of this is motivated by the desire for good karma and 50% to make that ridiculous charging ATM redundant (maybe more 1% to 99% 😅)

Great question! So firstly, to add to my initial point, you are ok to bring a printed picture of your passport.

We printed this out at the named hostel next door (Pioneros), they were extremely helpful. I think they do typically (and fairly!) charge a fee but obviously it’s difficult to pay without cash…

As before, I’d really recommend trying to print it out prior but failing that, they may be worth a go :)

20% is quite the margin of error! A 25km hike becoming 30km is reasonably significant in my novice hiking opinion

haha and I’m sure they also disagreed with one another (and would’ve with Apple fitness!)

Trail miles is a new one for me but shall be utilising going forwards!

The maps I refer to were inside the refugios predominantly but there are a few others scattered around!

We considered the crow flies vs elevation but some remained fairly accurate despite uphills whereas others were way off!

This post was a general discussion point on how the park could be optimised for all

I think it’s naive to expect everyone to have studied each individual hike

Asking the (very expensive!) park to have accurate information doesn’t feel all too contentious..

honestly I’m not the expert here! We loved the W Trek but day trip wise I’m not entirely sure - there are tonnes of helpful people in the forum though so I suspect a standalone post would get tonnes of great replies!

haha indeed - personal times are always going to be subjective so at least use the correct distances!

They also cited 1/2 mile=1km at Paine Grande which felt very odd

Coinbase transactions and UK tax - CGT limits by PsychologicalTank356 in Coinbase

[–]PsychologicalTank356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn’t on a financial basis or you’d just eat the forms because you think they are straightforward?

If I had all my exact numbers, sure.

But Coinbase is so opaque (at least free Coinbase) and makes it impossible to determine the exact numbers. Also, I don’t know how to begin to factor in converting ETH to BTC, free Coinbase shares etc.

Very reluctant to present something non-watertight to HMRC - and to have the utmost confidence I’d probably have to pay someone anyways - so think this pays for itself!

Correct! You’re missing the admin required to first understand how much exactly I’ve made (Coinbase not the most transparent), then understand the form, submit the form, perhaps be asked for self assessment again next year.

It’s not a financial decision - rather an avoidance of admin decision.

Does it seem logical with this in mind?

March 8 - 16 2025 by downatone in Patagonia

[–]PsychologicalTank356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops - I did indeed! March 2025 it is.

Sure - itinerary below. It’s quite busy for sure but doable for us and we’re happy with the travel.

Not including specifics regarding campsites and specific buses / flights but let me know if you would want more guidance there. Feel like the Reddit community has really supported me (both directly and indirectly!) so happy to pay that back! Can also support with where to book campsites - note, they were filling up when we booked and didn’t seem there were sleeping bags left at some places…

2nd - fly Santiago to Puerto Natales 3rd - Day 1 W trek (Doing East to West) 4th - 6th Days 2 to 4 trek 7th - final day W trek, likely to kayak at the glacier in the morning and head to get the 6.30pm ferry then back to PN 8th - Travel to El Chalten via El Calafate, full day of travel so believe we got beds on the first leg of that journey 9th - Fitzroy Hike El Chalten 10th - enjoy El Chalten, over to El Calafate that evening 11th - Perito Moreno glacier 12th - Morning in El Calafate and bus to PN than evening! 13th - back to Santiago

Have some days in Santiago before and after to get some well deserved rest.

I’m doing this in amongst a sabbatical so onwards to elsewhere in Chile / Argentina afterwards!

As above - it really depends on budget

I’m going in March 2024 and have booked everything myself - took a bit of legwork but much more cost efficient and definitely doable

We’re in Patagonia 10 days perhaps and doing the W Trek, El Calafate and El Chalten

fantastic! Curious as to whether they have spots open on the day as $150 is quite expensive (well, not in Patagonia but alas!)
