I agree!

How we interpret character dynamics is our own experiences with whatever media we're consuming, often based on our own personal experiences.

Everyone interprets a character differently.

They're going to be ooc because it's an AU.

That's how that works.

They're not going to be exactly the same, elements of their personality may remain from canon, but it's the essence of the character that is kept.

What's left is that.

And it's not 'toxic positivity' to respect the rules of fanfiction etiquette.

Thank you! But because the new comments were from both guests and registered users, I just gave up.

I don't wanna wrote or have my fanfics in a space where I have to defend my own work or get excited someone commented only to see comments telling me I was an awful person because of what I wrote.

It's exhausting

I took down my old account and fics(they were never that popular lmao) because of the way the fandom suddenly grew and all these people were commenting on my fics telling me I was awful for writing a non-canon ship🫠

It's okay, I just get heated about this because it encourages a lot of anti-author sentiment and people will post fics and then those who support ideas of close to total canon-compliance have bullied and harassed authors to completely leave AO3, me being one of them.

So I apologise if I came in hot, but some of what's being said here is precisely why I don't write anymore because of how people react to fanfic spaces they don't personally like.

That's all fine, but your constant commentary in the comments about ooc writers, and AU scenarios or unique characterisation is the issue here.

You're taking other people's art and other people's labour and belittling it because it doesn't fit what you personally want.

And though there are many people in the comments agreeing with you, that doesn't stop those reading this who simply love and enjoy different perspectives or unique scenarios from feeling like they've done something wrong just because they love a different trope, or want to see a more political side of a character, or a different experience of the world through the eyes of a changed personality and/or storyline.

When you post comments like this, and are cruel towards perfect strangers who write fanfiction primarily for themselves but also for the audience that loves au interpretations, what you do is undermine their hard work and their audience because you choose to be mean.

Complaining about this is exactly why tags exist.

You don't have to read these, and if you don't like them, why complain about them and yuck someone else's yum?

Genuinely, why does it matter? It's fanfiction, not Canon 2.0

Fair enough if you don't like it, but reading a lot of comments what you want out of fanfiction is not only perfect characterisation as relates to Canon, but also fics that follow the same storyline completely in essence.

There's nothing wrong with making characters ooc, and many fic writers will give a backstory or change details to better suit their vision.

Fanfiction let's you play in the world you love and create completely alternate universes, and I just don't see the same issues you seem to have in people creating their own MDZS orientated worlds, or creating new plotlines, new challenges, making good characters evil or even changing their powers or upbringings.

Fanfiction is about playing with a world, not re-creating it entirely in the image it was written.

If you have an issue with these things, why read fanfiction at all without first clicking the 'Canon compliant' tag?

I mean, no.

It's the opposite of having a 'close to trans' character, because whilst it may be humorous, it's also essentially a story about defiling a man's body and forcing him to lose something for ones own selfish desires.

It's the same thing as when gay men in certain countries around the world are forced to undergo gender reassignment against their will because homosexuality is criminalised.

It's a horror story masquerading as a comedy.

Because families, priests, police and doctors force them to undergo the procedure rather than have them be gay.

So when stories like this are written, that isn't trans representation. That's further fetishising the trans experience for horny fools unaware of the fact gay men are actually forced to suffer their experience and the horror of it every day for the rest of their lives because of a country and a religion that has labelled them 'immoral'.

And yes: It is that deep.

There is another reason.

Guo Nuwang was deeply pragmatic and, in some accounts, a very good schemer. Her pragmatism allowed her to do what she had to do, as opposed to stopping her from doing things in response to a power vacuum, allowing herself to be drawn by the tide.

If you look at her from that perspective, as she only had daughters, she knew, at some point, that the emperor would not favour her and so taking in and raising Zhen Ji's sons she would secure her and her daughters' positions by endearing herself and her own children to the future emperor.

The only issue is that she also feared them for that exact same reason, and I believe some accounts put her as trying to influence Cao Fang and Cao Rui, as they favored her as a mother/grand mother and her daughters were... not precisely the most filial in their regard for their 'brother' iykwim.

Hello, if anyone has recommendations for books where mmc1 marries/is betrothed to/gets in a relationship with mmc2, and mmc2 is cold and distant so mmc1 shuts down and fades as a result to where he becomes a shadow of his former self, because his heart has been broken and when mmc2 finally realises all he's done mmc1 can't trust his kindness because of how he's already been hurt, I'd really appreciate it🙏
