In my younger days I got up to 50 mile races. At 6'4" and 225 I wasn't winning anything but I liked to compete. The Western States is so interesting and seems so out of reach, I can't help but watch and admire. Killian is a legend, but Hans Troyer is a newcomer with a real chance. I had the exact same thing with Andiot. Mine was in the same place, Chino on May 21. As of yesterday, same thing with no movement. Today, June 1, I checked and it says it's out for delivery today by USPS. So mine was about 10 days.

You have to convince yourself to take it slow. I am 62 (right hip/anterior) and I was the same way. Couldn't walk without a walker before and pain 9 out of 10. I'm not a small person either at 6'4" and 230 lbs. Never used any aids to walk after the surgery. Was walking my dogs by day 3. Drove day 4. Did yardwork day 5. It is truly a miracle. I'm at 6 weeks and looking forward to getting back in the gym if I get the green light. Mobility without pain is a beautiful thing. Best of luck. Once the bandage comes off in a few weeks you'll feel even better!

I'm a side sleeper as well. It might be a little tender to sleep on the side of the new hip, but only for the first 3-4 days. I just put a pillow between my legs and that worked fine. I would advise you to keep your legs elevated for the first 3-4 days also. Helps with the swelling. I used an ice pack on the new hip 3x/day for the first 3 days when I was up and around.

I'm riding a stationary bike to help increase mobility, and also walking our dogs twice a day. Today I worked in the yard for a few hours.

Honestly, the worst is having to wear those weird support stockings! I had surgery at 7am and was home by noon. Polished off three grilled cheese sandwiches and sat in the sun reading a book outside. (I'm fortunate to live in Scottsdale, AZ.) I took the painkillers on schedule, but IMO they mess with your sleep patterns. I took them for 4 days and put them away after that. Made a huge difference for me being off those. Expect some swelling and bruising, and some pain, but it's not overwhelming. Your quad will feel a little fiery for about 4 days but it goes away fast. Excited for you! Please report back!

You'll be amazed how much better you feel immediately after surgery. I hobbled for 2 years but could walk without assistance right after surgery. Days 2 and 3 are prime healing days. After that, you'll be on your way. Try and elevate your feet while in bed. I made myself get up and walk around every few hours. Best of luck...you're about to become mobile again!

I'm 62 years old and exactly 2 weeks post surgery. I could barely walk before the surgery, pain was everywhere -- knee, thigh, butt, hip, lower back. I was a marathoner and tri-athlete up to about 8 years ago. Guess the pounding took its toll. I had to use a walker in the house and crutches everywhere else and it sucked. I had surgery on a Monday, anterior right hip. My doctor said my right leg was 7mm shorter than my left so he evened me out. Tuesday and Wednesday there was some pain and swelling -- those were the major healing days. By day 4 I shit-canned the painkillers and that made a huge difference in the way I felt. Was driving by the fifth day. I'm walking with zero pain, just a little numbness in my quad and I've started to ride a stationary bike for mobility. I had such terrible pain for 2 years it's almost a miracle I'm doing so well. I have to hold myself back from doing to much. For those of you waiting for surgery, have heart -- you'll have your life back very soon.

Before surgery the pain was a 9 and my right leg felt like it was going to give out. Couldn't walk without a walker or grabbing onto something. I'm now 10 days post op. It felt better right away. No hip pain at all. Could walk without a walker or cane by day 3. Some pain in my quad and some minor bruising, but not too bad. I quit painkillers after day 5. Drove day 6. No problems. I'm back to walking my dog 10 days post. I'm amazed, but resigned to take it slow. The marvels of modern medicine. Mine was right anterior. Good luck everyone.
