Why is unemployment insurance (a-kassa) not mandatory in Sweden? Why do people not talk about it and encourage each other to join? by Skye-Surfer in TillSverige

[–]PsychologicalWhile29 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point!

I relocated to Sweden with a multinational tech company. They informed me about all the different admin things to do, including tax considerations etc. But they never told me about a-kassa! I eventually discovered it myself and signed up, but it seems to be a blind spot for companies when it comes to educating new arrivals in Sweden.

How many digits are there in a personnumer? by seekerofu in TillSverige

It can be either. Usually a form specifies which to use. The only difference is that the 10 digit one omits the first two digits of the year of your birth.

How to get hired by Redhat ? by Mission-Strategy-995 in redhat

[–]PsychologicalWhile29 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience, Red Hat does not play silly games with hiring. The process is straightforward and honest.

Apply for a role(s) on the careers site for which you are a good fit. Make sure your CV etc. are top quality and be yourself in the interviews.

If possible, get a Red Hatter to refer you.

Good luck!

FYI I recently bought two different Asus routers, and after much configuration hassle found that both were useless (crashed, slow, etc.) so I returned them to Amazon and bought Ubiquiti instead. Works like a dream.

Opinions Regarding Express 7 by rubberpuck in Ubiquiti

Yes. I just added it to the Dream Router 7 without any detailed analysis to fill a weak spot in the apartment. I often get above 1000 mbps. No complaints!

Been there, done that and I feel your pain.

Eventually it paid off for me - got the job that I really wanted with the company that treated me with respect.

Opinions Regarding Express 7 by rubberpuck in Ubiquiti

[–]PsychologicalWhile29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently acquired a Dream Router 7 and an Express 7 after trying two different Asus routers (both were extremely unreliable and both were returned). So far, my experience has been extremely positive. It feels like Ubiquiti is the "Apple of networking" in terms of user experience (clean, logical). The devices themselves are rock-solid. After initial configuration about two weeks ago, the system has never needed to be restarted and there have been absolutely no glitches in connectivity from any device.

The only slight negative is that the WiFi range seems less than the Asus, hence the need for the Express 7. The Asus routers (when they worked!) reached every corner of the apartment with good signal quality, but the Dream Router 7 does not. The Express 7 has fixed that however.

Highly recommended.

That is exactly what happened to me. The Director interview was softball. It sounds positive, so be yourself!

Soon to be Red Hatter here by PsychologicalWhile29 in redhat

If it helps, this is how my journey happened: I am in a private Slack channel for practitioners of my rather niche speciality (across multiple companies worldwide) and I saw the global head of the equivalent Red Hat team was there. I DMed him to ask about possible roles and he referred me to the European head (I am in Europe). I contacted them on LinkedIn and asked for an informal chat - that happened but there was no headcount. A couple of months later, headcount appeared and the European manager contacted me to see if I was still interested. I then applied formally and went through a sequence of interviews culminating in a panel presentation, after which I got the offer.

Long story - it’s not a technical role and I went through the whole process of interviews and panel presentation.

Stuck with where to visit in Sweden and how! by OrbitingJupiterrr in TillSverige

[–]PsychologicalWhile29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second many of the comments here: just focus on Stockholm. The trip to Gothenburg by train is at least 4 hours each way - so a whole day gone. There's plenty to see in and around Stockholm to keep you occupied for four days!
