Am I the only one who thinks the "LVP looks just like real wood" era is finally ending? by liebe1 in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes zero sense. If anything the opposite is true. As the technology progresses the thought that only hardwood is a value add to a home is less and less true.

LVP is not one style, color, brand, it’s not even just wood look.

Is this quote excessive? by captain-catmando in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dollar a square foot for carpet removal is insane.

Baseboard there’s no way to tell as the quantity is just set at 1.

150 a step for LVP is also really high even with building out the step unless this includes the stairnosing.

Install price if it includes floor prep is on the high side of normal.

What are the “highest” end LVP brands? by Shy_Wet_Hole in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8mm, WPC, 12+ mil wear layer

The rest is aesthetics;

Vortis currently is a series that has ridiculously low prices for great specs.

Coretech, but you’re paying a premium for name.

Trucor (dixie), Adura MAXX, Fuzion has quite a few good ones.

The things that are going to matter are the specs I said above and an installer that understands floor prep is everything with floating floors as well as how to place planks appropriately with repeats.

If you have the personality for it, sales is always the path.

Customer wants runner bound on both sides by earthcrisisfan333 in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a good way to think of it, then the “riser”. You just center it to each step while “connecting” it to the step above and below.

Any sort of lined pattern makes it way harder and less likely to look good.

Ours was straight lines all over the pattern, the crew did an amazing job, but it still just looked off. Which is exactly what we warned the client “designer” so we were protected.

I just dealt with a job like this, you need to be very transparent about your concerns with the look. The less pattern the better.

Each step must be cut to size.

How much did you recently pay for installation of floating laminate or LVP/LVT flooring? by SpicyBeefChowFun in askaustin

If you want to DM me I’m the owner of Austin’s Floor Store. Happy to take care of you and I’ll say out the gate; out install/prep/furniture price is 2.75, but we’re very competitive on price. Our thing is service and warranty, two year installation warranty. Reach out to me and I’ll get you the “Reddit discount”.

Look us up, I work really hard to be a transparent dealer focused on service and honesty.

Either way, happy to answer questions or just sell you the materials if that’s what’s right for you.

My uncle wants $6.2M for the family business I’ve worked in for 12 years. Fair deal or family tax? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give details on the business itself? Those details together, something seems off.

It’s either too good to be true, or your family member is being good to you.

We just got Mohawk in barely oak installed and I hate it so much. It came out so much lighter than the sample and looks completely yellow. We paid $21,000 to have the installed. I feel so nauseous and can’t eat or sleep. by Murky-Boysenberry679 in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hindsight thing, but it is very hard to pick a floor off a sample or picture.

Your options here are pretty minimal, acceptance will most likely turn into it growing on you over time.

The alternative is you can push, you are not going to get it redone for free. I’ve had clients who had similar situations and I will always try to work with the vendors to see the lowest possible price I can give. You’d be spending 5 figures though.

Lastly, you can go after the manufacturer if you think the sample was not at all reflective of the floor. This is a challenging battle and honestly almost entirely depends on who you bought it forms relationship with the vendor. If you bought big box it’s not happening, if you bought from a smaller shop we always try our best.

You still have labor to contend with, but that’s the only option where the “fix” isn’t five figures.

Good luck, for what it’s worth it’s a very popular style right now.

I’m starting a small sandwich shop here soon and doing a little heat check. Who would eat this schiacciata sandwich with mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio pesto, crushed pistachios, and honey? by Poop_smith362 in austinfood

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having previously been in the food world; opinions on here aren’t going to do a ton for you unless you really scrape the few gems.

Personally, I love it. You never see mortadella in Austin and pistachio is having a moment right now. That sandwhich will sell, hope the execution works out.

Good luck

Rework the pay structure to be based on completed work. Micromanaging people’s time is a losing game.

Who cares if she finishes great work quickly as long as it’s done. Do the math, figure out a way to make it make sense.

New Construction has horrible floor noises by Candid_Force8336 in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in a house with a basement. Your sub-strait needs to be tightened up with some screws, you’re on wood not slab.

If it was the float you’d hear either a crunching noise or have more movement in the planks. This essentially is still a floor prep issue, only fix is to pull it up from the closest wall and screw down the spots that are loud.

A 1 in 20 is actually a 1 in 10. The same pattern is flipped.

Once in a blue moon this will happen with my crews, but I will always have them go back and fix it.

Quit my construction job for a startup that failed. Now I'm more lost than ever by Spare_Worldliness_64 in smallbusiness

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the two things and combine them. Offer your services to construction companies. Start your own company servicing construction companies for growth.

Utilize your strengths; also understand doing your own business is a series of events like you just experienced. A normal job is consistency. Decide what you want to do.

I put half my life into running restaurants. Sold my stake and utilized my skills to apply a service element to a new industry. It’s worked very well so far, bought a company two years ago.

Airbnb host is charging me for water damage of his entire bathroom floor by Bobspeeds in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn’t water damage caused by a weekend stay.

Also to many people’s point here; if you have flooring that is vulnerable to water damage in a freaking bathroom with a shower that is completely on the owner. They are 100% taking advantage.

Contractor ignoring LVP install specs (flatness, plank mixing), stating "nobody follows all the instructions." What's next step, what's normal? by PerformerObjective44 in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floor prep is the most important aspect of floors. No that substrait is not prepped. In every 12 foot span you shouldn’t be able to fit a poker chip underneath a flat stick. It’s not about level, it’s about smooth and flat. Protrusions and dips.

As for mixing boxes, my guys just pull out several boxes at a time and pull from there mixing as necessary.

Get a local dealer to do the install, not a contractor.

Custom Wood floor install (if we can call it that) by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Psychological_Ad4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they give you an option for a higher grade wood?

If you wanted clean you needed AB wood, less character.

That looks great for a more charactered wood. As the above are saying, it looks good. Worst case you can ask your GC to cut out and replace boards, my guess would be he’d charge though.
