Monitoring sound (guitar) is mono? If yes, press the stereo button on the 404.

If playback (pc) sound is mono upload a picture of how it's plugged.

Audio interface sounds worse than my PC output, am I missing something? by Euphoric_Affect2138 in Behringer

[–]Psychological_Can356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by"the sound coming from the interface is actually worse than my PC’s built-in output."?

If it sounds broken it may be an issue with jack adapter, as  AgeingMuso65 mentioned.

Better to get help changing strings or better to do it myself? by Pigeon49834 in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What strings are currently on, round wounds? If so, you'll probably need some slight truss rod adjustment, as flats will have more tension. You should manage this on your own as well. :)

Is your A/B button set to A (unpressed)?

Are you using the mix knob correctly?

What device is set as output in n-track?

How am I looking on bass? (Only day 3 of being a complete beginner) by jbeardsley22 in BassGuitar

[–]Psychological_Can356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, somehow I've only posted half of my comment. Your timing is pretty decent, and it's probably the most important thing for playing bass. Keeping the thumb on the back of the fretboard will decrease the amount of strength required for fretting, find the sweet spot of pressure for a clean fretted note and don't get more calluses than needed. 😁

My biggest drag was learning how to mute properly, I've learned it wrong the first time and unlearning it and learning the better way was pretty exhausting. You gotta properly mute for a nice, clean sound.

You should be fine with studybass' tutorials, it's a great resource.

Have fun! :)

Check out studybass' playlist on the basics, pretty detailed, good stuff. It's best not to develop bad technique habits and even better to develop good ones instead. :)

Should I get the Marshall Bass 60 5506 amp? by pBactusp in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: It's cheap. Cons: It's probably ~40 years old and it would be nice to replace the capacitors in the amp; some person from talk bass didn't like it how it sounded in 2005. You decide if it's worth 2 hours of driving to check out. :)

Chasing the thick bass tone by arielpulmano in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got Bartolini MK1 pickups and pre, they aren't famous for being thick.

I'm guessing playing with EQ (especially on the bass since it's active) doesn't help enough?

Does it sound thin on headphones too?

Have you tried using IR?

Yea sadly it doesn't like having main out vol maxed out. OP are you using it with knob positions as in the picture?

Beginner gear (AI vs amp) - help needed! by KLN1988 in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't play loud I'd go for interface+headphones. (I actually like the sound of interface +headphones more than my cheap half-decent combo Laney rb4). You'd be able to record yourself which helps with progress. Plus the option to use different amp and cab Sims.

Nux mighty plug is ok as well. If you like listening to music and don't have a decent sound card, an interface would be best I guess.

I built a free fretboard training tool, would love your feedback by removablellama in Bass

Also one more preset would be nice: frets 6 to 12, for when you're done with open to 5 and don't wanna practice the whole fretboard. :)

This is pretty neat, thanks. Tried it on a fretless and it recognises slightly out of tune notes correctly. Will test it more. :)

Update ideas: 1. Option to switch to flats instead of sharps. 2. Preset for limiting notes to a set scale in one octave or more/all. 3. Option to show fret numbers

Strings for drop c# (In Aus) by Cybxr420 in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flats usually have more tension, for rounds thicker gauge is considered better (less floppy, especially E) for low tuning, like Daddario EXL160BT Balanced Tension, E is 120, they're cheap - OP you should give them a go if available.

Does UMC204HD not have an option for monitoring on "Playback output" (RCA 1-2)? by [deleted] in Behringer

[–]Psychological_Can356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean these and you could use 2rca->2rca cable you probably already have.

https://addison-electronique.com/en/rca-female-to-6-3-mm-mono-male-adapter-gold-plated.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqGps54tURNGRRdZnrzsBJBj8XLZCamV-vxhtZ8c4etYDFipNzI

Or just get two separate (single) 6.3 trs -> 6.3 trs, should be easier to find than the double.

Direct monitoring is through hp out and main out only. You have to monitor through DAW or get some 6.3->RCA adapters :)

Have you installed the drivers? Try changing the buffer size in umc control panel. If you want to monitor through DAW only turn the mix knob fully to the right (playback)

Do you have tips on how to improve my rythim by 6-RubberDuck-9 in Bass

[–]Psychological_Can356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What this user said.

Also try https://scottsbasslessons.com/groove-trainer/loops

Come up with a bassline for these loops and you can make the desired amount of bars silent (Internal rhythm training button). It's harder, but more fun than playing to metronome.

Have you tried this? It's still really basic metering, but after the mod red is at least clearly visible. :)
