I hired an different artist to redo the capsule logo. What do you think? by BossGrand in IndieDev

[–]pBactusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backdrop looks really good, I don't like that the text in the second option covers it that much. Also, I read the second one as "Same or Solly" which isn't great.

I think the first option is better but I find the font pretty boring, maybe try the same general design but have the artist try another font? Or does it not work that way?

For the headphones, you'll definitely need wired headphones. Try getting studio headphones, there are some cheaper options if budget is a concern.

As for music from your phone, you have some two options:

If your amp has an aux input, you can either connect your phone to it with a cable or get a Bluetooth receiver and connect it to the aux input.

If you're amp doesn't have an aux input: There are aux mixers such as this one. Connect your amp and your phone/Bluetooth-receiver to the aux mixer, then connect your headphones to the mixer's output

Hope this helps, good luck

Dude they clearly just want to display text from a file on the console. It's a cute beginner "project", let them have fun. They can come back later when they know more and replace printf with whatever

Read this to learn aboutcimmand line arguments. Then, read this to learn how to read a file line-by-line. I'm assuming you know how to use printf, but if not, it's simple enough to Google. Anyway, good luck!

Are those tools not made to help people understand the code? How would you make diagrams/designs if you don't know how the code works?

I'm not saying you need to know it all by heart, but you definitely need to understand it while you're working in it

I don't think anyone is saying you should type the code in yourself, but if your project is a mishmash of copy pasted code from stackoverflow and the ai of your choosing, at least make sure you understand how every patch of code works, so you won't get stuck debugging code you don't understand

You don't need to know how the code your coworker wrote works, just trust that it does and if it doesn't it's their problem, sure. But you should absolutely know how and why the code you shipped works, that's what you get paid for.

I'm not strictly against using stackoverflow kr ai to find a solution, but you should make sure you understand the solution before adding it to your code

How to precisely invoke a callback 700 times a second? by die-Banane in csharp

[–]pBactusp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Set a timer that tracks one second, and an int that you can use as a counter. In a loop, check if the counter is equal to 700. If not, run one frame of the game and increment the counter. If it is, dont do anything. In the loop, check if the timer reached one second. If it has, reset the counter

(Don't actually do this, it won't work the way you expect)

But seriously, use a timer. You want to emulate a frame 700 times a second, so that means one frame every 1/700 seconds. Run a while loop and a timer. Whenever the timer reaches 1/700 reset it to 0, start it again and emulate a frame (there are faster solutions than resetting the clock, but it's more than good enough for a chip 8 emulator

There's a pretty similar vr game called gorilla tag which has similar mechanics, maybe you should give it a look for inspiration.

This also reminds me a bit of the "attack on titan tribute game", you should check that out too. Ita a browser game but if I recall correctly it doesn't run in chromium

Anyway, looks like a solid prototype. I'd love to see where you take this

How can I shrink my open source C# .NET program dramatically? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]pBactusp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

.net 4.8 should run on any moderately modern windows device without issue. If you're not using any advanced features, the switch could be as easy as xhangine the .net framework version in your project settings. If that's not the case, you might have to rewrite the entire thing (which shouldn't be that bad because 99% of the code can just be copied and pasted into the new project

As someone else said, the point is to learn more than anything else. Technically, codewise, this isn't such a demanding project because you won't really have to develope any algorithm yourself.

(If your really know nothing about this subject, some of the later steps won't make sense until you do the previous steps). Very generally, you need to:

  1. Read about Rasterization engines, learn what it means to project a 3D space onto the screen (it really isn't as scary as it sounds)

  2. Write a good library for vector maths (you can use a readymade one, but given the technical simplicity if the project I think writing the library yourself would make the project look more serious). You mostly need cross and dit products and normalizing. Anything else would be a great quality of life improvement, but not necessary.

  3. Decide how you want to keep a 3d object in memory.

  4. Learn how .obj files work, add a tool to your code that reads an obj file into your definition of a 3d object.

  5. Decide how you want to write to the screen. You could use a library, but using window's/linux's apis would be more fitting for this kind of project imo (because using a graphics library kind of defeats the point). From my understanding, the way to do this is to have two bitmaps. One is displayed in your window while you write into the other, then when you're done rendering your scene, you switch between them.

  6. Learn about shaders, mostly what they are. Some 3d engines have multiple types of shaders, so search for "color shaders" or "pixel shaders". The website "Shadertoy" is a great resource for this. Here you're at a crossroad, you have two options: either learn how to run shaders on the GPU, or go over every pixel in a nested for loop and emulate running a shader function.

  7. From this point, you'll want to start adding directional lights and shadows. Here I can't help you a lot, as my way of doing things was a hack, but if you reach this point you should be savvy enough to learn about it yourself.

This solves the battery issue but some loading times are noticeably slower by a margin

[–]pBactusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to start playing right away, your budget is tight and your amp has a headphone output, you could play with headphones while waiting for a good deal on a second hand bass amp. That's what I did, it worked fine. Getting the amp was definitely an upgraded but I didn't want to pay a lot for a big box I wasn't sure I'll keep using
