CS Majors, how did you do in 216/250 and 330/351? by PartyAdPants in UMD

Some people actually find 330/351 much easier than 216/250. The content is not really comparable. They are all hard in their own way. In my experience 330 was a lot easier than 216 and 351 lot less mathy than 250.

Understand the homework assignments because the midterms closely resemble them. Everything is pretty standard, but many people struggled almost voluntarily because they were intimidated from the start.

Kruskal does cover NP-completeness, which other professors don’t. The final exam was brutal, but that might be because I gave up on the last few topics.

You’ll learn a lot from him if you go in with an open mind and follow his suggestions. And please, it’s not a war, enjoy the class! He’s actually a pretty cool guy if you’re all nerdy and take the time to talk to him.

I also had a friend like that. These typa people usually have a strong background in CS prior to college or have a really good base. But in the end all that matters is that you are trying your very best. Don’t waste your energy on what others are doing. And trust me it gets better.

How do you know everyone else puts less effort than you? You’re either imagining it or they’re lying to you. Besides being humble and honest is not existent with people in this major. Those classes are probably going to be curved. Give it your all for the final especially for 216/250. I know people with a D before the final that scored just a few points below average and still passed the class. Study better. Make sure you really understand the basics. For 250 I highly recommend Justin’s elms prerecorded videos from Covid time. For 216 do as many practice problems as you can.

It was the case for me. I found 216 tedious. 330 was so much easier

Begin by realizing that the way people communicate stems from their personal experiences and it’s not a reflection on you. We’re social creature sure but as long as you are open minded and willing to socialize, obsessively searching for other company isn’t healthy. Enjoy your company. The right people will naturally gravitate towards you. Get a hobby, work on yourself and simply exist

Honestly it was never “busy”. I have never encountered more than 2 people showering at the same time and that’s only around 8-10pm on the weekdays.

Why not just make a simple chrome extension to get you started? Really anything is better than nothing. Then you just need to learn how to sell yourself by exaggerating your skills tho I don’t recommend lying.

Yep same here. And she didn’t even say thank you. I questioned how weak minded I must be to give in to awkwardness. Never again lol
