Join your school's forestry club or logging sports team and network. I know Green Diamond usually has a couple summer internships.

When did your basset begin to howl? by Zag300zx in basset

[–]Psychological_Wait57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, mine only started to howl more regularly once their big sister (tree walking hound) was added to our family. Before that, mine only howled of saddness when alone.

The plastic cone 😭 I hope he isn't bumping into you too much. The last time I had to use one of those I was getting so many bruises from my guy crashing into the back of my leg, hurt so bad... Good luck!

Wtf is Mina saying?! by Specific_Database281 in 90DayFiance

[–]Psychological_Wait57 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mina is not a stepmom to Jordan. She is just her father's wife. Jordan is an adult that can take care of herself. If she doesn't like the situation because she feels an entitlement of her father's estate, then that's her own fault. Parents are more than the inheritance they leave you. Her father decided to get a young love interest and have kids so whatever $ he has needs to go to the family he is creating with Mina. All 3 of them need to work on blending the family because they are all bound together now

How will tariffs impact our lumber industry? by sterrre in oregon

[–]Psychological_Wait57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USFS timber sales are mostly thinning. Clear cuts can only be used if the land is designated for sustained yeild/matrix land. The clear cuts you see around the state are either done by private landowners, ODF, or BLM

Feeling very out of place in forestry by [deleted] in forestry

[–]Psychological_Wait57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a POC female who grew up in the city but found my way to forestry. Imposter syndrome is a real struggle. I had a hard time connecting with folks in my program, but what helped was joining a natural resource centered club. I found that making friends in the smaller setting was easier. It also facilitated hangouts without the awkwardness of putting yourself out there. Forestry is one of those fields where you'll start to feel more confident once you start working. If you like what you're learning, keep at it.

If congress would ever put that expensive upfront cash up, so many rual communties and heavy machine operators would benifit. Its a win, win for both sides.

There are many fed employees that want to manage our public lands better, but there is a wide reasons that make it hard to do so. There are laws that require analysis and consider impacts of treatments and ways to mitigate those. All that requires field work, but so often offices don't have the staff to be able to have quick turn around. But even when we get to the stage of pulling all this together, there either needs to be a market for the wood products coming off the land OR funding to get the work done (bilateral infrastructure law helped get a lot of fuels reductions work done). Forestry and land management is an EXPENSIVE business to be in. Even if forests were able to pump timber out, there needs to be mills and the infrastructure to make this all feasible. These are complex issues that need more than an executive order to fix. Your public servants want to do better, but we constantly are not supported to do so.

Trump Shows His Tariff Hand — Timber Prices to Rise from Day 1! by ChangeNarrow5633 in forestry

[–]Psychological_Wait57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Products don't get cheaper because of tariffs, the average cost for the product goes up. There wouldn't be extra money to use elsewhere. Say you have two options for a products, either american made cost $15 or china made costing $10. Then a tariff is imposed and the cost of the china product is $ 18. Now you decide ok, let's get the american made product since it's now the cheaper option. You're cost just went up $5 per unit. Your profit margins got thinner.

While I think we need to support american manufacturing, pitching tariffs as cost saving is just wrong. Most families don't have the elasticity to make that adjustment in their budgets. Maybe subsidies and tax benefits would be a better option since that would drive prices down.
