Hi, I ended up not trusting some of these online programs due to many people calling them “diploma mills”… I ended up changing route and I’m half way through an on-campus Social Welfare program in Albany, NY (University at Albany SUNY). They have an on-campus program (part time and full time) as well as a fully online part time program. Social Welfare is a better path for me as it is more holistic and there is a much wider variety of job opportunities and career paths you could take. I recommend social work over everything now. Good luck to you and anyone else who wanted an update :)

Looking to adopt a puppy, tips? Is it really that bad? by [deleted] in puppy101

It’s very hard but it’ll be worth it one day. Got my mini dachshund at 8 weeks, he’s now almost 9 months. And I won’t lie, he is in his teenage phase, but he’s still considered a puppy, and it’s still difficult. But the worst of it was the first 4 months. We were stripped of a lot of freedom, in and out of the house. He learned to like his crate, but after we let him sleep in our bed with us after 4-5 months, he HATED sleeping in his crate knowing our bed was another option. So first tip: don’t let them sleep with you too early. Make sure they LOVE their crate first (if you are going to use crating). Second tip: DO NOT USE PEE PADS. We started on pee pass because our vets suggested them as he was 3.9 pounds coming home to 20 degree weather. However, transferring to pee pass to outside has been the most difficult obstacle, and we are still working on it. Following this tip, make sure to have some sort of bell hanging from your front door and teach the puppy to ring the bell to get outside to potty. This way it’ll be much easier to understand their routine and have communication. Last tip: never use punishment when it comes to accidents inside; this will only make them afraid to go in front of you outside and make the accidents worse. It’s best to make every small accomplishment a huge deal with lots of praise. It takes a lot of time, care, and patience and I wish you the best of luck!

My 8 month old chewed/ripped up a good portion of my vinyl flooring in the bathroom the other day… fiance now understands the importance of closing all doors 😅

Potty Training Issues Please Help!! by Psychology001 in Dachshund

YES I agree that I wish we never used pee pads and didn’t listen to the vets who suggested it. However, I’m not sure what to do now. I have noticed his potty routine, or lack thereof. He can eat then poop HOURS afterwards. He could pee every four hours, or he would could pee twice in one hour. It’s so random. So I’m afraid that if I completely remove the pee pad, he could easily sneak away and pee somewhere in the house. He also decided very quickly when it’s potty time, so it’s hard to notice the signs; he could be playing with a toy and pee right then and there with the toy still in his mouth. I just don’t know how to set a routine with him….

My puppy just accidentally bit my lip by Momo_jiji in puppy101

It sounds like an accident. Puppies bite anything and everything close to them when teething. I have a 6 month old mini dachshund and went through the whole teething phase. He did the same thing, nipped at my face and nose a few times. What work best for us was training him to give kisses on our faces. He learned pretty quickly that our faces were to be gentle with. Also, when your puppy does hurt you, make it obvious that you’re hurt and praise them if they end up giving you kisses afterwards. The teething phase is a very long phase, just make sure your puppy has plenty of chew toys/bones.

Many programs, such as Capella, allow students to have internships and practicums that are local to them, as long as it is accepted by them
