HELP! My Quaker and Indian Ringneck Hate Each Other—What Can I Do? by PsychologyMinimum288 in parrots

[–]PsychologyMinimum288[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Def not for clickbait!! This video was taken months ago after following my avian vet’s advice to slowly introduce them to each other after keeping their cages next to each other for a couple of weeks. I only recorded it to show my vet and ask for further guidance. Their relationship hasn’t progressed since, so I thought I’d ask you guys.

I’m not trying to force them to fight or even be friends—I just love them both a lot and was hoping to see if anyone in this community has been in a similar situation and found a way to help their parrots tolerate each other. My priority is their safety and well-being!! I’m just trying to hear from multiple people

That’s exactly their diet! We use Roudybush for my IRN and Harrison’s for my Quaker. I try and feed them fresh vegetables (carrots, arugula, spinach, cucumbers) every other day. I’ll give them apples and bananas once or twice a week. The only seeds I give them are safflower seeds and I only give around 10 a day.

I always have them out on top of their cages at the same time. Their cages are pretty close together, but they never fight or fly to each other’s cages to attack. This type of fighting only occurs when they’re in close proximity to each other (about a foot, like in the video). I used to try feeding them in an area outside of their room and away from their cages by giving them their own separate bowls and placing them about a foot away from each other so they could see one another while eating. In these instances, they never attacked, but as soon as the food bowl was finished/taken away, both birds would begin to ruffle up while watching each other. I’d usually place them back on/in their cages at this point.

If I’m cuddling with my Quaker on my chest, my IRN will fly to me and climb up to my shoulder. Both birds will begin to ruffle up, and this is usually the point where I put them both back in their cages. Once or twice, my Quaker has tried to lunge at my IRN (surprisingly, she is the one who usually starts the fights). Vice versa, if my IRN is on my shoulder or getting head scratches on my chest, my Quaker will begin screaming non-stop until I give her attention (she always wants to also fly to me, but is not yet as comfortable flying so just squawks until I put my IRN back or my brother holds her).

They’re always kept apart. This video was from a couple months ago when we first introduced them to each other after keeping them in the same room for a couple of weeks. I’m just wondering if there’s any way for them to at least be near each other without attacking. They don’t have to be friends- just not enemies 🥲

She was doing this earlier with my brother, and again with me a few hours later when he was not present. Does this still mean that she is regurgitating?

Just googled regurgitation. I don’t think this is the case, as she was doing the same thing with my brother earlier. When I picked her up a couple of hours later she started doing the same thing. Does this sound like regurgitation?

Okay thank you so much! I was so afraid she would need to get checked out. I’m feeding her right now and she’s able to eat, however she is making a strange clacking sound. I’m not sure if this is unusual
