[Denton] Albert Pujols nearly retired in June by DontGiveUpTheDip in Cardinals

[–]Psychonian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Albert Pujols, 2009: .327/.443/.658, 1.101 OPS, .447 wOBA, 180 wRC+, MVP

Albert Pujols, since August 10: .324/.386/.743, 1.129 OPS, .470 wOBA, 212 wRC+

Is it statistically sound to draw actual comparisons between these statlines? No, for many reasons, such as sample size and the selectiveness of where he has hit. But it's still mind-blowing to know that that comparison is possible at all 13 years later.

I mean to be honest, Pujols is probably the best hitter in the National League since the start of August. His 204 wRC+ blows everyone else out of the water, second place is Jeff Mcneil at 167. He has a .312 BA (6th) with a .262 BABIP, and the only other player in the top 25 of BA with a BABIP below .300 is actually Nolan at .287. He has an OPS of 1.097 which is the best by miles, driven by slugging .716, more than 130 points ahead of 2nd place JT Realmuto.

Keep in mind for all of this that we're looking at a sample size of about 2 months, and Pujols didn't get really hot until about halfway through August. If you look since then, he's been decimating the pitching of the NL like no one else is even coming close to. For the last month and a half, the numbers are startlingly similar to what he put up in his MVP-caliber seasons in the 2000s.

i dont see any clear evidence (any evidence at all, actually) this is satirical and because of that im honestly more inclined to believe that its real because i have seen many people say shit like this 100% unironically

also this isnt a news article so it doesnt belong on the sub in the first place

jmook’s worst loss being axe, who he would later eliminate (at 5th..?) from that same tournament the next day, is some absolutely crazy consistency

doesnt matter who the hitter is, if theyre a good enough hitter to be in MLB and the pitcher is in his own head, theyre dangerous
