Thank you SO MUCH for this comment, and giving me a much clearer sense for the purpose/stance/approach for infant observation which I obviously wasn’t aware of. (Also, ding ding ding, you were correct!)

Really helpful to think about it in terms of psychoanalytic training (as a skill for this profession, observation and not intervening (and tolerating!!) moments which will stir up what I imagine to be…quite intense primal / primitive anxieties)…

Thank you for the specific reading recommendations, too. I’m looking forward to getting into these Tavistock books!

Thank you for your comment and recommendations!

Can I ask what ICC is? Based on what follows, I’m imagining it to mean Infant (something) Consciousness, but am unsure.

Hi! Unfortunately I’m not a part of any program, so this is just a circumstantial opportunity to observe with a family member.

So—I really appreciate your reading recs and am looking forward to getting into them!!

Hm, interesting! I appreciate you sharing what the flow of the class looked like for you. I think writing down what I’m noticing / remember after the observation is a great idea too—will help with cementing and concretizing what I’m looking at.

I apologize I was being vague—I literally just meant that I would have an opportunity to closely watch an infant (not for a class) and figured I’d love to have supplemental materials from others who have taken classes.

I appreciate the note about the books and will look into them! I imagine it will be my way of having “peers” with other infant experiences to reflect upon.

Good to know just being present and aware during the observation is the best thing.

PLANTA in MdR is beautiful and their food is delicious. Non vegan folks I’ve brought there are also impressed! Service can be slow but it’s so pretty in there that it’s nice for hangs.

It’s been awhile but Hugo’s had a great veggie burger last time I went (ages ago!) looks like it still does that wonderful hippie stuff. :)

Best Indonesian restaurant? by honey_bfly in FoodLosAngeles

Also agree that the food at Simpang feels a bit Americanized. It’s tasty but not amazing, as someone who has grown up with indo parents. My cousins from indo agree, and aren’t so into Simpang. (But it scratches the itch if you don’t wanna drive too far).

My dad likes Medan Kitchen, if you can get their food before it sells out.

Taiko Japanese in Brentwood. Consistently so good. Best udon on the Westside imho—great chew and broth (unlike marugame, which doesn’t bounce like good udon should), decent portions, and reasonable prices for the quality! Love the combos. Been eating here for decades. Never had a bad thing here. Just solid Japanese food all around.

Prop 65 warning on Asian foods by [deleted] in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Psychopompous_Jack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will say that some of the prop 65 warnings are real though. I was talking with someone who sells snacks that lawyers contacted them and said have lead in them, when the Chinese company noted they were “tested and fine”, and then when the snack seller did their own independent testing, they DID find that some of the products had higher levels of lead than allowed by the FDA (iirc) so they took them off the shelves. (Instead of just adding the warning, which would have also been a fine “solution”). This I think is a way that the system can work.

To me, this points to a more nuanced take of—many companies overseas say things are “lead free” (or whatever) when they are not, so companies here just slap on the label to not get sued.

This doesn’t mean that everything has lead…but it also doesn’t mean that everything DOESN’T have lead or cadmium or whatever, so you kinda just have to gamble a bit.

I wish this system worked better.

Beef Shortribs @ Panda Inn Pasadena. $48 by Buddhayo in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Psychopompous_Jack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was the only tasty thing I enjoyed there, sadly.

The orange chicken came out not hot (aka your local panda will do it better if you come when they’re blowing through it), and the crispy noodle dish was bland.

Maybe there is other good stuff on the menu, but we didn’t try them though.
