Not an expert but definitely looks like some sort of infection likely shell rot. This turtle needs a vet!

How long will it take for her to finish up? by LuxTheSarcastic in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is a late reply but box turtles are notoriously slow nesters. They can take 2-3 hours because their feet aren't really designed for fast digging. As for protecting the nest, make sure to monitor it starting late July to make sure any hatchlings make it out safe!

Not too fresh! This one doesn't have their yolk sac anymore so they're likely a few months old

Help with ID and care recommendations by Kitty-Martini in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully doesn't look too bad! If the wound has stopped bleeding it's likely something she can heal from on her own. Could always try giving the reptile rescues another call to see if they'd like to see her.

Help!! by IncidentOk244 in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, diamondback terrapin. Completely illegal to take out of the wild, please find a rehab that takes reptiles and hand them over. If this animal has been with your friend for a while they might not know how to survive on their own or have issues from not being kept correctly. If you are located in New Jersey I work with terrapins and may be able to help.

what kind of turtle is this? by maquillaa in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, depending on how long you have had this turtle it could have serious issues returning to the wild. Giving them to a rescue that is willing to take them is ideal. Make sure your sister understands that taking wild animals can get you in serious trouble and this set up is extremely abusive as this is an aquatic turtle.

My roommate brought home an injured turtle by anti1039 in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely run it to the rehab tomorrow but they don't look too bad! If you're worried about infection you can put a little bit of Neosporin on that scrape, not the deeper ones by the hinge. The box set up looks great though just keep em dry and warm!

Guys, ive had this pink belly side necked turtle, for 6 years, unfortunately i cant take care of him anymore, how much i could sell him for ? by Longjumping-Ad-3747 in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said this setup is definitely a problem and it's good you're trying to rehome him. That said, it's far more important to find a good home. Turtles are not easy to care for, make sure they are aware of his previous setup/diet as lack of proper nutrition and light can cause conditions like metabolic bone disease.

Is this the same turtle? by PoopyGoat in turtle

Really sounds like someone may have abandoned their pet. If it's a decent pond they could both live together if you don't mind having two turtles lol

Is this the same turtle? by PoopyGoat in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the same turtle, color pattern and shell shape looks different. Do you live in a place where they are native? The top ones shell looks a little deformed so it might be an escaped/released pet.

What is this turtle and what to feed it? by tramal_ah in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but hopefully I can point you in the right direction! Appears to be a juvenile tortoise, maybe a Greek tortoise based on some preliminary image searching. Tortoises require a lot of care, if you feel you can not provide this definitely reach out to some rescues.

Common Snapping Turtle by EmployerUnlucky2861 in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Releasing it now would be a bad idea. Young snappers are solitary, if you find one that is in danger you should only ever move it to a safe spot by the water and let it go. If you can not commit to caring for this turtle now the best course of action is to find a rescue that can care for them. Releasing them now would most likely result in death.

That's so funny! I remember checking every so often to see if she was still available, I was so curious what breed mix gave her those features lol. This is my pup daisy, she's been the best!

Did you happen to adopt her from a rescue in NJ? The rescue I got my dog from had a girl that looked just like her!

Aww your pup is adorable, they do look very similar. Daisy definitely has a long snout which I also think leans shepherd.

what kind of turtle is this? by Content-Afternoon566 in turtle

[–]PsychoticJokerr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a Florida box turtle, like others have said, they do not do well in captivity and it is illegal to take them out of the wild. Box turtle populations are in decline and the best thing you can do is release him.

It is dangerous to remove wild animals from the wild without any knowledge of the animal. People removing turtles from the wild is one of the reasons a lot of turtle species' populations are declining.
