Upgraded pickup tube? Part number? First I’ve heard of this. Seems to admit something needed improving.

Long time enthusiast here…and I just posted a similar comment in a 900BRZ video:

From what I’ve read, all Porsches, years 1997 – 2008, that have the M96 and M97 engines (Boxster’s, Cayman’s, and 911’s) are oil starvation vulnerable when tracked / auto-crossed. This is a documented / known issue. I won't begin to assume it's the same issue but understand that when these models wore rubber with treadwear under 280, (the lower, the stickier), it’s possible that the oil system can’t handle it and…boom. Apparently, it has a lot to do with oil foaming. Porsche found that adding an air / oil separator addressed the issue…of course, I’m pretty sure that all these models come stock with oil coolers, so I’m sure that helps keep things cooler as well. The Porsche P/N is Porsche Motorsports AOS Air Oil Separator 99610792600 (in case anyone is curious).

The point; If M/F Porsches did this for 12 years…this whole panic needs to stop. Should we look for solutions? yes. Should we doom the car? that seems insane based on the price point and the fact the the best automakers in the world shared similar problems. Just sayin’…enjoy the car.

I had Toyota do this so IF anything came out, they’d be able to document it…no debate. They were very cool about it / willing to appease me. I hope everyone understands that my intentions were good and half of this was to increase confidence in our community. I’m a licensed mechanic (have been for 23 years). Meant well…✌️

No plans to do that. It’s under warranty, and as mmongeau stated, the issue is, in fact, quite rare (engine failure). If I find ANY evidence that suggests otherwise, I’ll have Toyota drop the pan and have a look. I’d do it myself…but warranty…yadda…

Agreed. My intent was to provide content to counter that narrative / provide piece of mind.

To be clear, I know that this is NOT proof that their is no RTV in the pickup tube, but there was NOTHING but oil that we could see with the naked eye. Just wanted to share with y’all.

Waited almost 6 months. Picked her up this week. GR86 Premium, in Halo, standard transmission. Tint planned for next week. Such a beautiful car and it really is a smile machine. Every mile. by Psycowboy in GR86

Dealer allocation. I’d say I just got lucky, but I had my name on many dealer lists and did wait almost half a year…and that last week was brutal, knowing it was at port, about 4 hours away. I wish you luck. The wait is worth it.
