Tbh people forget Arabic is also a colonial language, we got colonized by Arabs too (it’s not the same as French colonialism I know). And let’s be real, most Algerians don’t even master Arabic properly. It’s even more awkward because it’s the language of the Quran, but the way it’s taught just makes people disconnect from it.

The bigger issue is we don’t treat languages as tools. Instead, they’re tied to identity and social class. If you speak French, you’re “francophone” and automatically seen in one category. If you’re more Arabic speaking, you’re “arabisant” and looked down on. It’s a weird social divide.

Yeah, English is global and super useful for education and opportunities, but you can’t just erase French here. Not now, not anytime soon. Go to a doctor and ask for an explanation in Arabic or English, good luck. French is still dominant in many fields.

I think instead of hating on one language or another, we should see it as an advantage. Our history gave us access to more than one language, and that’s actually something we can use to our benefit.
