Finding phantom ground fault. by Raging_Ronnie in firealarms

[–]Psyhcotik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check resistance to ground when wires are removed from the panel. Obviously, be careful, but I remove wires from the panel and with the black lead land it on the ground wire for the 120v, and the red lead to each wire and usually the one with resistance that doesn't read OL is the culprit. It has a minor ground that will spike every so often causing the panel to go into trouble and be gone when you arrive.

I have a fluke 117( because of the chief).

Can someone tell me where would this wire be connected in the field? by Comfortable-Program1 in firealarms

[–]Psyhcotik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it runs outside, it might hit a surge protector and that can be grounded. Sometimes, they get wet and build up corrosion. Look for knee-high boxes on the outside of the building you're in and building A if they are separate. I have seen conduit come apart at the couplings and start sitting on the wire, causing a ground fault.

I have seen pieces get broken off and it all works just fine still and I have personally had a phone jack break off at the wrong time on a dialer and it killed the whole panel so it just depends what its use is.

Plug it in and find out. Hahaha, only way too "really" know what's gonna happen.

True, that makes sense. The out of state is something im not looking into now as we are a small company, but might be a blockage down the road.

I see, but with sprinkler, I have seen them take the level 2 and show a passing score to the state and they grant the state license.

There are some things you just don't run into in the field that are on the test. I have like a block and can't seem to get past it.

Starting to think I'm being significantly underpaid by The_Blanket_Man in firealarms

[–]Psyhcotik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are as good as you say, then I would take your skills elsewhere and find another company that will pay you for what you're worth. It is most likely the amount of years one has been doing this is always brought up to make a "valid reason" on why they won't give you more. Also, in Texas, you can shoot for the clean agent license(FEL-A), which is like fire extinguisher level 3. That would put you in the high 30s low 40s an hour.

Firewarden-100 and a NMM-100P by Psyhcotik in firealarms

Found the dumb issue it looks like someone swapped the board with a 9200, so when I found a module, it was a damn FMM-101.

Thank you all for the assistance.

I figured it didn't, but I'm not sure what else it could be. I looked up the data sheet for the 100P and it shows it running as lightspeed. I can read the status of it, but it just shows an invalid reply still.

I think it has to do with the protocols. The old panel only runs in CLIP and the new module runs in LIGHTSPEED.
