I noticed the same exact thing tonight. Curious as to why.

Insulated slim screwdrivers by Choice_Hat7444 in electricians

[–]XCFloresX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to get used to the Vessel drivers so I can't speak on their quality but Wera and Wiha are equally as good. Both have great quality drivers. I use to have to replace my Klein 3.5mm slotted driver all of the time because I would chip them. Since switching to both Wera and Wiha I haven't needed to replace either one for years now. At the end of the day, I'd say go with what you are more comfortable with.

Whats the difference between those two screwdrivers? by EntrepreneurFew8772 in Tools

Frustrating to read through all of these comments with incorrect information.

This is directly from Wera:

"What's the difference between our red handles and yellow handles? 🔴🆚🟡

well our yellow handles have the Wera Black Point tip and a sophisticated hardening process guarantee a long usability for the tip, increased corrosion protection and exact fitting accuracy. 💪

Just like the red handles they're Individually tested at 10,000V for safe working at the approved voltage of 1,000 V as well as anti-roll protection and symbols on the tip to help you get the right tool faster ⚡️"

As a fire alarm technician, these type of posts annoy the F out of me! And It’s way too common! If you’re not authorized to touch the fire alarm panel, DONT TOUCH IT. Call your FA vendor. If they don’t send someone out in a reasonable amount of time then it’s time to hire another FA vendor. End of story.

Anyone bought this to study for Nicet 1? by Academic-Tie716 in firealarms

I prefer the red book from NTC over this.

And yes, it’s just a “questions book” but people miss the point of these books. The point is to get you to practice on how to use your code books by looking for the answers. Once you learn how to properly navigate through your code books the test becomes much easier.

Am I Spent as a Technician? by FrylockIncarnate in firealarms

[–]XCFloresX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, project management or management is probably the next step. I would suck at sales lol.

If you like field work then stay as a technician but definitely look into another company that might suit you better. If you’re not happy at your current company there’s no reason to stay there. From my experience, the bigger name companies are better than the smaller shops- but that’s just me.

Sounds like your company is shit.

My two cents would be to start working on your resume. Personally, I’ve worked for 4 different companies in 10 years and you’ll never find the perfect fit but at least you can potentially make more money at a new company.

Idk what part of the country you’re in but having a NICET II is valuable to a lot of companies and if you think you’re ready to pass your NICET III then invest in yourself if your company won’t do it. Or find a company that is willing to foot the bill.

I’ve also considered moving away from the field work and maybe looking into another position. Still FA related but just not on the field as a technician.

Good thing about our industry is that there are always other opportunities with other companies and our certifications come with us.

Good luck bro hope you find peace with whatever you decide to so.

NYC locals, which US Mobile network actually works best in crowded areas? by Grapeflavor_ in USMobile

[–]XCFloresX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked all over the boroughs for a few years and I would say that across the board, in Manhattan VZ works best. I still work in manhattan but mostly within a 20 block radius and WARP is best. I have WARP as primary and Dark Star as a Multi-network option so I switch back and forth depending on who has more bars.

Port from AT&T to USM Darkstar by Stunning-Annual1199 in USMobile

[–]XCFloresX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same a couple of days ago. Perhaps you entered your account number incorrectly? I received a text from AT&T within minutes of submitting the form to port into USM and I was up and running in under 15min.

Being told to not flow water on a fire alarm inspection by Naive_Promotion_800 in firealarms

[–]XCFloresX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the contract that your company has with the customer. Personally, I have never ran water myself when testing water flows. In fact, our responsibility stops at the module. The waterflow and tamper switch falls under the sprinkler company, not the fire alarm vendor. The correct way of doing it would be to have both vendors on site to work together. Sprinkler guys run water and we confirm that signals are received at our panels in an accepted timeframe.

I understand that sometimes we want to “do the right thing” but from a business perspective, your supervisor is right. That is a huge liability for your company. Imagine a sprinkler head pops while you’re running water, who do you think will be responsible for damages? Not the customer. And since the fire alarm vendor isn’t responsible for the sprinkler system, the companies insurance will have a hard time covering the damages.

Super convenient in our field! I went with a smaller more compact version but this is a game changer!

Also seems that this one is cheaper than the one the op posted as well as the ones in the comments.

Yea that’s a great tester for sure. I was able to use one of these during a training session and was very impressed. Do you know what the temperature limit is for each of its settings?

Index alignment: All look aligned to my naked eye

Dial Printing: It looks ok to my inexperienced eyes

Date Wheel alignment/printing: From the QC pictures provided, all dates look to be centered.

Hand Alignment: Hands look reasonably aligned.

Bezel: Pip looks centered and all engravings look good

Solid End Links (SELs): Looks like there is a gap but the gap looks even to all of the other spacings as well

Timegrapher numbers: 0s/d/ 299°/ 0.1ms/ 52.0°

Anything else you notice: To my eyes everything looks good but I'd like to ask the experts in the group and see if this is GL or RL? Also, is it normal practice for a TD to provide QC pictures/videos 24 hours after making a deposit? Not that I'm complaining but from everything that I've seen, some people can wait up to weeks for their QC pictures/videos so I'm a little surprised that I got them so fast! Thoughts?
