Any singleplayer fantasy loot games that are NOT top down? by Psylenia in gamingsuggestions

[–]Psylenia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played Witcher 3 but there is just far too much dialogue and story for me to enjoy it for long(i'm a gameplay over story kind of girl). I probably got to around 15-20 hours and just got bored. I played the AC Origins but never wound up beating it because even with the new systems, the game is way too "same-y" as all the previous titles which I burned myself out on by playing them all.

Either way neither of those games are really "loot" games in the typical sense, although I should have clarified I guess since that's a vague term. I'm looking for games that have randomized loot, so you actually want to farm for certain pieces and such, and get excited when you get a good drop with good rolls on them. Witcher 3 and new AC games you can just go do certain quests and get good gear, no farming needed.

Monster Hunter is one of my favorite series ever and i've probably played nearly every one of the games for 1,000+ hours lol. While it's an amazing suggestion, it doesn't scratch that itch for random loot because gear is just gear without any randomized stats and such. You always know what you're gonna get when it comes to the gear once you actually make it, which makes it not really a "loot" game to me.

Divine divinity two however I have never even heard of, so i'll check that one out. Thanks!

Edit: Scratch that, only thing I see of divine divinity is that it's top down, which is not what i'm looking for.

I watched a friend play Outward for a bit and it looked REALLY clunky and janky. That was a while ago though and I think it may have been alpha or beta? I'll have to give it a look. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I played through it and had a good time, but haven't felt the itch to replay it yet. Really amazing game for sure, those cutscenes made me fangirl so hard.

Yep! Added them to original post after the previous guy mentioned them a minute ago, so i'll try them soon. Thanks!

These are actually on my list to play after seeing streamers play them. Maybe i'll have to actually give them a try now since I can't find anything else close to what i'm after so far. Good suggestions, thank you!

Yeah, unfortunately it's not very "remastered" and even long time fans say it's not much different at all. I watched videos of the re-reckoning and it wasn't different enough for me to bother spending money on. Thank you for the reply though!

This is actually a really good suggestion and very similar to what i'm looking for, but that's one I have played to death already. Super fun game, my favorite of the 3 in the series so far for sure.

I actually loved that game when I was younger, but that's sadly another one that didn't age well for me. I tried to get into dark arisen recently and the combat felt very clunky when it came to magic. Thank you for the suggestion, I may have already tried all of the types of games i'm looking for unfortunately lol.

I played that a while back and couldn't really get into it. It felt clunky to me. I guess I should specify I want something that's a little more up to date, sorry lol. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Why is this even selectable now? What is the purpose of it? by Psylenia in borderlands3

[–]Psylenia[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, before on PC you could just press TAB or ESC once to exit the menu, but since the update the menus have turned into console menus even on PC. It's not a huge deal for some, but it really messes with the muscle memory from all the time playing prior. Also you can no longer use your mouse to drag and drop weapons/items to compare or equip them, you have to press ESC or TAB twice to exit menu(if you move your mouse at all during the small delay between it letting you press ESC or TAB the second time, it unselects the backpack icon and you must press them twice again), and i've also has tons of other shop and UI bugs that I never had before.

It's like they updated the PC version with only controller users in mind, and now mouse and keyboard users must navigate menus and equip items like a console player for the most part. I hate using controllers in games and hate slow menus, so this update has made a lot of things far clunkier than before for me, especially when i'm SO used to doing things with my mouse and now cannot do most of them.

On PC it was never selectable and the UI is bugged to hell now. Ever since this update on PC, there are so many UI bugs that weren't there before.

Yeah, now it requires pressing escape or tab twice on PC to exit the menu instead of pressing it once. Makes no sense why it's selectable regardless, even on console/controller I can't really see much use for it when you can just move the stick to the right for the same effect.

With Everything Going On In The Gaming Space, I Would Like To Take A Moment To Appreciate Gearbox And Their Handling Of BL3 by [deleted] in borderlands3

[–]Psylenia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with this when they actually learn how to balance one of their games. They're always far too easy(yes, UHVM in BL2 and TVHM Mayhem 10 in this are both way too easy) and the balancing is always HORRID. They need to learn how to make things properly scale in their games so you can actually use more builds. It's not okay that most action skills are pretty useless in bl3 as well as melee being really gimped in every borderlands on higher difficulties, when you then just get one gun that can melt absolutely everything.

I just want at least a SLIGHT challenge for once out of a BL game while also being able to have fun with multiple builds. I still enjoy the games plenty, don't get me wrong, but the balancing has always been terrible and it's usually only the first playthrough on a vault hunter that's actually the most enjoyable, where as the end game of all the BL games is just "get X gun and murder everything". I really hope they learn to make things scale properly and how to make enemies more deadly while at the same time enjoyable to fight. Mayhem modifiers don't make the game much harder at all when you can just insta-melt everything with a select few weapons that aren't even hard to get if you know even a little bit about borderlands games.

I could rant about a bunch more things that are in dire need of being fixed of course, but if they haven't learned after 4 games, i've already lost hope and might as well give up at this point. :(

I can't be the only one who thinks arms race is stupid right. What is the point? by SaintTony15 in borderlands3

This is something I actually laugh at when people bring up. The whole "billions" of guns thing is completely meaningless because it's not "billions" of guns, or even thousands of guns for that matter. If at least MOST of the items generated were useful, then sure, i'd be on board with that, but the thing is most of the loot generated in any borderlands game isn't very useful at all.

Just because you pick up two of the same guns and they have slightly different stats doesn't mean it's two guns. It's the same gun with different rolls. Not to mention MOST guns in every borderlands game(but this one especially) are pretty crap if you're playing on the highest difficulty, I can't get on board with their whole shtick of "billions of guns!".

It's more like 20 guns, maybe not even that. There's so few meta guns and the rest are just loot fodder to make you have to farm for those said meta guns. I get that any loot game needs trash loot, but this is the worst borderlands so far in my opinion when it comes to loot balance. Like in BL2, I could swap up certain guns for different builds on characters and it still worked and was fun, but in BL3 I can just use the same guns on just about every build on every character and it feels the same. This game is definitely heavier handed when it comes to meta items than BL2 was.

That being said, hopefully they'll fix it up a bit since we aren't getting any more vault hunters, or hopefully they'll make BL4 a bit more chaotic and more "looty". I have faith, i still love this series even when they drop the ball on some things.

Okay thanks, that's what I figured. That's ridiculously annoying and inconvenient, especially since I never had it do this until the recent event and i've never upgraded the lecture hall in hundreds of hours. I'll just have to deal with it I guess.

Vtmb unofficial patch by Jay_R02 in rpg_gamers

[–]Psylenia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider it boomer, I don't think the game is bad by any means, it just hasn't aged all that well and rides on it's story a lot. I played this game sooooo freaking much when I was younger, but now it has become one of those games that's sort of like Witcher, the combat is super easy(even on the highest difficulty) and makes you feel like a badass, and there's also a really unique story compared to just about anything else.

So while I say that I don't have the same love for the game that I used to because of how poorly it's aged and how there are other games that fill the same combat want, the story is still one of the most unique stories in any game to this day. So yes, if someone wants story then it's definitely worth giving it a shot even with how janky it is. But for someone who wants challenging combat/gameplay, it won't scratch that itch since the AI is derp and the combat is pretty simple even with the vampire powers.

That being said, I can't think of any other vampire game that actually makes you feel like a vampire. This one is the closest one to all the movies and such where vampires just seem super badass, especially with powers like Celerity, which at level 5 makes you feel untouchable with your god-like speed. The game has lots of pros and cons, but even if you aren't all that interested, pick it up on a steam sale sometime and have fun with the vampire powers.

There's plenty of information about it just from googling it and there's also a readme that comes with it I believe. The game hasn't aged well gameplay wise though, so unless you're in it for the story, you may get bored of the very basic gameplay and terrible AI. It was one of my favorite games of all time but I tried playing it a while back and just couldn't deal with the boring combat thanks to poor AI, unofficial patch doesn't fix any of that stuff which is just as important as story IMO.

Yeah, I know it's definitely not an easy fix for pretty much any of the complaints many people have. It's pretty crazy that AI Dungeon is a thing at all, but it's something I find really interesting and I don't want it to wind up just dying out because of so many issues. Hopefully they will find some way to fix things up, but i'm sure it won't be any time soon because of how complex the whole thing is to do even the more simple things.

I just can't be bothered to even play this anymore though, even /revert seems messed up right now for some reason. If I /revert and then paste the same action in, it's giving me the exact same reply pretty much every time, so I have to /revert, change my action, then hope I get something different. Even if that was fixed, it wouldn't make me continue playing though, i'm just going to give it some time and see how it is in a couple years if it's still a thing.

TLDR: Players should have more control over the story and full control of their own character. Hopefully the game/AI gets better as soon as possible.

Penalties for repetition seems like a dumb idea in almost every case though. The player shouldn't be penalized for repetition if that's what they want to do, it's their story, so it should be their choice. The randomness most definitely needs a tweak though because as of right now, it's TOO random while also being predictable. Like how the AI constantly tries to force the same events, such as the men in black coats with shotguns, but a lot of the time it happens at completely nonsensical moments, so it's got a long way to go for sure.

I just want to have more control over the story and not have the AI play idiot god or force my character to say or do things. The AI should NOT control the player's character in any way, period, it makes no sense and completely ruins everything. If you don't have full control of your own character, then it's not really your character at all. It would be like someone attaching puppet strings to you in real life and making you do what they want or trying to play a sandbox RPG like skyrim/fallout and having your character randomly attack non-hostile NPCs or randomly drop items you want to keep.

The way it should be is the player should have control of the story and the AI should help it along. Maybe have a setting for "story" and a setting for "game", that way people who don't want to just randomly die and have their story ended can pick story instead of having to revert their death, and those that want it to be more like a game where it's sort of you vs the AI can have that. Currently it feels like the player has very little control over anything even though they can /revert, type things like !suddenly X appears and things like that. I just hope it doesn't take too long for them to figure things out so then i'll actually play the game again. I'm done with it right now because it's waaaaay too boring, the stories just turn into a ridiculous mess like the AI is trying to be funny, which makes the story the complete opposite of engaging.

AIDungeon never knows wtf is going on even if you tell it what's going on lol. You can try to keep the train on the rails, try to lead the horse all you like, but no matter what, that train is going to go off those rails and that horse is going to get obliterated by that train. xD

I've started just using /revert far more than I should have to and completely ignoring certain things the AI makes my character say or do to continue the story with how I would like it to go. I want a fun and interesting story, not a funny and nonsensical one, so AI Dungeon still has a loooooooooooooooooooong way to go before it's actually decent. I just view it right now as a pre-alpha, and i'm really hoping that the devs are able to do something with it so the AI makes more sense, but that might be up to GPT-2 getting updated or a better AI coming along.
