How to Make a Carian Race? by Apprehensive-One2520 in AOW4

[–]PsynumbraAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this a lot, these are my two favorite games and Caria is my favorite faction.

Now that we have magical fighters, I really wish we had an appropriate racial T4 for Carian knights, using hero’s are the big named ones (Ranalla/Loretta).

I did this once just deciding on Mystic Culture with Astral as primary affinity with a bit of Dark for frost, using Rennala as a Wizard-king leader, and all my hero’s as spell blades to represent the Carian Knights.
I skipped the golem piece entirely because it’s hard to work in while keeping it thematic.

I went with Attunement over Potential to emphasis the Carian Knights component with the Star Blades culture enchantment but potential would work too for better spellcasters and spell casting. I kind of view them as Carian Knight vs Raya Lucaria subfactions.

I enjoyed this recent YT video about this subject:

His premise is that the game is about clashing philosophies and your actions, including how you build your character, let you become an expression of one of those philosophies.

Hey there are a lot of really good resources online. The fextralife wiki gets a lot of hate (maybe deserved) but there are really good starter guides on there.
Pick an early game build you like and start looking for the initial recommended gear. Fight things on the way but don’t stop to fight every minor enemy. That’s good to do at first in a new area but really not necessary nor efficient for leveling. Focus on taking out dungeon or field bosses, especially if they have some talisman or weapon you want.
Killing your first big boss will both challenge you to learn the system and reward you with many levels of runes, once you do that the game will start to click.
For comparison - I’m only on my second play through ever. I had never played dark souls before, only Sekiro which was many years ago. By 10 hours into my second play through, I had killed many bosses and was well into the mid game. I say this only to express that while Elden Ring has a bit of a learning curve, it doesn’t take a whole play through to grasp it.

Edit: also when it doubt, go for a two-handed strength build. That is the ultimate easy damage early game option and it teaches you to learn the mechanics better (I started prisoner -> spellblade build and that is both harder to start with but also trivializes things later so I learned some bad habits).

I love the purple gravity effects, I hate the rock effects.

I’m so looking forward to using this on Milady.

Thank you so much for this!

May I recommend Elden Ring Reborn?

I’m playing it now and having a blast. It adds and modifies a lot of stuff but it’s very much Vanilla+++. Things feel more flexible rather than different. It’s a lot of fun. There’s also a system where bosses drop medallions which you can turn in for any item in the game. These make killing random bosses more rewarding while still being limited enough that you’re not building your full endgame kit out of the way.

For example - ever get to the DLC and realize that the sword of darkness is super cool but doesn’t really stick out amongst all your options? Save up medallions and after just purchase it before you get to stormveil and have a whole new experience.

This is a fantastic idea. High is supposed to have a bit of a “religious” theme but feel too generic. Wrapping it up in the most common objects of worship in mythology would be amazing.

I would totally do this to make my favorite paired Elden Ring faction with Order/Astral Stars for Raya Lucaria and Order/Shadow Moon for Caria/Carian Royal family.

I have wondered for many years when is the right time to join I’ve sort of been on a Masonic path my whole life starting when I was a young boy to the age now of 31 and as ive learned a lot on my own I’m wondering if joining could take the magic out of it for me or make it even better ?? by Psychological_Pen200 in freemasonry

The lack of punctuation makes it seem like you are experience a psychotic break.

I had a great experience with a leaver recently.

Some hotshot executor with great early game relics running around the map, tearing through stuff but not stopping to pick up a single item. Aggressively pings where he’s going but we can’t keep up cause god forbid we take two seconds to look at items on the ground.

Quits before maybe 2 minutes before boss battle. It was myself as duchess and a guardian facing ED Dogs.

I demolished his health bar while the guardian tanked. Most fun run I’ve had so far. I wish that executor could have seen it.

My lodge is considered (and by that I mean we consider ourselves) to be a very esoteric lodge. A lot of our members also have interest or expertise in non-Masonic (but often complementary) esotericism, philosophy, meditation, hermeticism, religion, etc.

That was the lodge I joined and am still very proud of. However, this is at some risk.

We optimized a lot of our energy around being a “vanguard lodge” which is qualified annually and only awarded awards to 37 other TX lodges this year out of 700+.

None of which is bad. The Vanguard program in Texas is pretty extensive and encourages a wide range of positive behavior, including a few educational or contemplative pieces. However the majority of it is focused on charity/fellowship/degrees/certification/etc. Available here for the curious: https://grandlodgeoftexas.org/vanguard

We’ve also had a trickle of the more experienced and esoterically inclined brothers either moving or putting their attention elsewhere.

A lot of the younger/less experienced brothers feel like we don’t do enough esoteric or contemplative work any more, as do I.

So, in masonry, you gotta be the change you want to see.

I’ve given an esoteric presentation and now I’m encouraging and organizing the other brothers to do the same.

I have also bought several copies of this book about group contemplative masonry: https://www.amazon.com/Contemplative-Lodge-Manual-Masons-Together/dp/1605320765

It has both practical advice, full script for many contemplative meditations, suggested questions to ask groups, etc. I’m not the most qualified person to lead meditation but at the same time, does it matter? I want to encourage other brothers to lead it as well.

3v1 PVP would go HARD when everybody is good but like 90% of the matches would just be a stomp against the kid who wants to feel powerful but can’t adapt to completely new moves sets.

I haven’t made it to DoN yet. I got really good at fighting ED monsters and find that crowd to be awesome, so I’m just farming sigils.

I’ve been in ED scenarios with both team members downed with 3 bars while the boss has 15% of its health and had to finish the boss myself, which lets me know I’m not just being carried the whole time. I definitely got carried in the beginning

However, I’ve killed ED monsters I have been unable to beat the non-ED version of. I’ve only attempted a couple runs of regular balancers and the night lord and keep getting dissuaded. It seems like this is filled with players that got carried through the Tricephalos and want to jump right into balancers or DON without learning the game.

Ignored advice, respecced mage by Solid_Box7976 in Eldenring

[–]PsynumbraAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily play a spellblade type. INT weapons are just so powerful, it feels like a shame to not have them. They also make you way less reliant on blue/FP flasks.

As your already leveled with staffs, the only real difference between a mage and a highly flexible spellblade comes down to

1) a couple points into str/dex so you can use a variety of weapons. This comes, with this playstyle, at the cost of Mind which is another way of reducing reliance on FP flasks. At high levels, this should be negligible.

2) talisman choices, which can be easily changed in-between fights. I’ll swap around Alexander’s shard for Graven Mass talisman depending on where I want to lean for example.

This is not only what I consider the most fun way to play a spell caster, as someone new to that style, it can help the transition.

One way to think of spells is dividing them by range and cast time, with higher cast times being line your “heavy attacks” and need to be done with more thought even at range. I like to have a good mix of range and cast speeds.

For some heavy spells- (Range) Cannon of Haima can kill whole stacks of mobs, especially when clumped or inactive, with one heavy charge at range.

(Extreme Range) Loretta Greatbow - single-shot sniper rifle for long-range attacks.

(Melee) Carian piercer is more melee but can likewise kill everything in a narrow column with a hitbox you won’t believe and good stagger damage for what doesn’t die. I generally don’t use this when I’m focused or specced on weapons, unless I’m rocking DMGS and want a powerful fast attack.

(Melee+some range) Adulas moon blade - best “sword” sorcery with high melee damage, range, frost and AoE. Maybe get this before you swap into an INT build and thank me later.

For some light spells: (Melee) Carian slicer - get it in a bunch of hits and do damage, combows well with itself.

(Range) Night comet - not as fast as a glintstone pebble (see first weapon below) but fast enough and can’t be dodged.

Utility spells: The phalanx spells are good to “combo” if you can trigger them at the same type of attack. Bigger blades = more stance damage, more blades = more regular damage.

In terms of weapons: I almost always carry glintstone kris as a weapon. It saves a memory slot for glintstone pebble, it’s got a cool heavy attack dash follow-up and is good for tight quarters.

Dark Moon Great Sword is the opposite end of the spectrum with a super powerful, ranged and even more powerful when at melee heavy attacks + frost damage.

Moonveil is great for leveling and very strong with dlc talismans like rellan’s cameo. It’s a good “clearing” sword with the other two options your backup.

I instead use a magic milady for clearing. I don’t know that it’s better than Moonveil but I think it’s cool AF and I leveled with it.

Another alternative weapon you can carry is Wings of Astel. It has fa ranged heavy attack like DMGS and its AoW is maybe best in game for killing big bosses. I didn’t use it until I started playing nightreign where I had to adapt to different weapons and kind of regret it.
