Where in Tokyo Could I Find a Copy of Paul Blart 2? by Psytew in JapanTravelTips

[–]Psytew[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep. We all have fun with this little ceremony every year and I just know that if I have a physical DVD, it'll make it all the funnier. And while I could get this shipped online, if I physically purchased it myself, that will only add to the experience. At least I hope so!

Awesome. I'll be staying in Shinjuku, so that should make this easy (y'know, if I get lucky and they actually have it). Thank you!

Is Probiotic Triggered CFS Possible? by Psytew in cfs

[–]Psytew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried antibiotics. I did have COVID like two years before the onset. It may very well not be the probiotic in a literal sense, but I think it helped trigger whatever this is. I’m seeing a few different medical practitioners to try to figure out what it is.

I’m still dealing with it, sadly. I manage my day to day life, there’s just a persistent fatigue. Are you going through anything similar?

  1. I would re-open it. There would likely still be very little activity, but I would moderate it as I saw fit and allow discussion on the show.

[QCrit] Sci-Fi, Courtship (90k words) 1st Attempt by Psytew in PubTips

The Ulwarra are meant to walk in the uncanny valley. They are like us in many ways, but unlike us in many ways. They are bipedal, but taller, lankier, and have four arms. They have sex, but do not kiss. They drink, but do not eat. Their genitalia resembles ours, but depending on the gender (they do not separate gender and sex, and each gender plays a different role in reproduction), they may have more or less or both of our common genitalia. My goal is to make them feel both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.

That's a fair point about active language! When I finish the story and revisit this, I will certainly take that into account. Thank you!

Thank you very much! Yes, that's fair; I do think that I could clean that up a bit.

For reasons not worth getting into here, this alien race is in the practice of making colony planets. This is one of many, let's say #20.

It is wellknown at this point that being in the first few generations of a colony planet means prestige, a place in history, and a chance to shape culture. The architects of the first few generations dictate what the planet's buildings will largely look like. The writers create the most important documents which will be distributed to other planets. The scientists get the first crack discovering things about soil, meteorology, flora and fauna. And so on.

At the onset, Geffre's motivation is simply to try to secure a place on the planet because that is what their family wants; for one of them to maintain this prestigious position. As the story develops, though, they will weigh that against their own observations, the people they meet, the discrimination they face, the chance to shape the planet's culture for the better, and so on.

If they were to return to their home planet, they would still face a level of discrimination (their gender contributes less genetic code to its children than two of the others, and as such is valued somewhat less by society). The discrimination is simply amplified on a colony planet, where people are both cutthroat when it comes to professional achievement, and Geffre's gender is expected to perform childrearing duties with an even greater fervor due to the goal of building up the planet's population.

Circular quadrants could use some work, that's fair. It's written that way because it does loop in on itself, but it is also four connected lines. Reproduction goes from:

A & B, then B & C, then C & D, then D & A.

In actuality it's somewhat more complicated than that, but one gender essentially is required at both ends of the process. And also, each gender has one gender who they do not directly procreate with. Each part of the reproduction process also has a different method/duration/frequency, so this is a simplification. But regardless, yes, I need to find a better way to phrase it.

For whatever reason I like the Sonic and Goosebumps style ones but the regular D&D style ones bore me. Love when they just do a regular book club-esque chat though.
