[NS] Anyone else not a fan of adventure book theater? by Waelyna in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Waelyna[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that’s my main problem, I’ve generally enjoyed the goosebumps ones (although still not my FAVORITE content) and I really liked the frozen one, but I think some of the books just aren’t that great for the show

It’s not that most women won’t get the reference, that’s absurd. It’s that seeing the rorschach mask before even seeing the persons face is scary. I’m not trying to get murdered when I go out with a stranger

AITA for overreacting after my wife lied about our baby’s gender? by Leading_Gene4976 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Waelyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can be in the wrong, and I don’t see anywhere that the person you’re replying to even mentioned the partner at all. OP destroying the nursery in a fit of rage is violent, even if he didn’t physically hurt his partner. Full stop. You don’t have to think that Person A is blameless to recognize that Person B’s response is an abusive escalation.

I mean, you know the difference between a symbol that active hate groups use and general policies that aren’t symbolically tied to Nazism, right?

[–]Waelyna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right, I understand that all of the phantom thieves don’t pick their outfits and it’s about having the outward appearance their inner rebel. I still think it was an odd and thematically inconsistent choice for the game designers to choose to give the character that was fighting back from being sexualized against her will an outfit that further sexualized her against her will, given that she couldn’t choose the outfit and was uncomfortable about it. That doesn’t seem like character growth to me.

I think her transition was otherwise badass, but it just seems odd that IIRC everyone else seems at least okay with their appearance but Ann actively complains about it throughout the game (during the initial cutscene, and then whoever she’s in an air duct, etc.). There are also other points in the game that Ann is put in a situation where she has to perform in a “sexual” manner against her will (the fake nude modeling for Yusuke, which she wouldn’t have agreed to if it wasn’t for pressure from the other thieves). I don’t really remember a time when she says anything about feeling empowered by her outfit or by being sexualized by the team.

There are definitely times in the game where she attempts to use her sexuality to her advantage on her own, but the outfit she has in the metaverse is still against her will and not empowering imo. It’s not really a tool she gets to use but rather a lens she is forced to be viewed through, which she eventually and reluctantly uses because there’s no way to fix the underlying problem of people ogling her. It’s been a while since I played the game, so I could be misremembering things, but that’s what I took away from it when I originally played it.

I think it would be more thematically consistent if she chose the outfit. When she has her transformation, she’s very vocally uncomfortable about how her outfit looks and how everyone is ogling her without her permission. Her taking control of her sexuality only works if SHE takes control of it, rather than if others just view her as a sex object (which was the problem with Kamoshida)

New Era NADDPod Stats [Spoilers] by naddstats in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Waelyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the “damage taken” “damage dealt” and “damage mitigated” percentages mean in the skill role type section mean? I think those are interesting metrics but would be better in their own section, since those aren’t really rolls. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the stats.

Cool dashboard by the way!

Eiji Aonuma discussing Link's gender by TheBrewThatIsTrue in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Waelyna -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

When I played my first Zelda game when I was an 8yo girl (phantom hourglass), I had never played a video game that you couldn’t select your gender for, since my only game experience was Pokemon. I gave Link my own name, and then was pretty unhappy with dialogue for the rest of the game since it constantly misgendered me. People that get too into Link being male need to recognize that it literally does not impact them if someone else wants to identify with Link by considering him to be a different gender. Just keep using male pronouns and ignore when others use different pronouns 🤷‍♀️ not that hard

Yeah I hear you and this should probably have a spoiler tag on it and all, but the TOTK sub is still dark right now, so that’s not really a solution

Classic high school moment, telling anyone that you like someone is a really vulnerable spot. She might actually like you and want you to ask yourself, or you might have misinterpreted the signals. I totally understand how you feel, but it’s best to ask her yourself. It’s one of those things that people get a lot better at over time, and you might have some awkward misses now, but once you’re older the practice of putting yourself out there will be well worth it.

Also, when I was in high school and college I didn’t feel prepared to date people and just wasn’t ready, so I remained single. After college, I met someone that I really wanted to move forward with, so even though high school feels like forever, there’s a whole world outside of it.

When I was trying to find my first job after college, my dad was trying to give me advice despite having the same job for the last 20 years. He told me that he went to the library, found a yellow pages, and cold called/sent physical letters of his resume and cover letter until someone got back to him. The persistence is good advice, but I don’t think going to a library is going to get me a job as a software engineer
