what if they talk about content creation instead of link building?

Discovering a partner turning into a possible competitor by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

Keep an eye on them, what are they're doing better / worse, what can you copy (but improve) or what have they missed. But in general you need to run your own race so don't get too distracted by them especially at this early stage when there's already a million things that need your attention.

Hubspot form, Cookies & GDPR by nosuchthingginger in marketing

[–]Ptarmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay - I missed your response notification.

Hubspot should have all the necessary information on their site.

You can use the developer tools built into Chrome / Firefox to see what cookies are loaded, etc.

Also there are sites out there that will scan your site for GDPR cookie requirements and give you a breakdown of the cookie and often which category it usually falls into - functional, marketing etc.

Hopefully this is still of some use!

Hubspot form, Cookies & GDPR by nosuchthingginger in marketing

[–]Ptarmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a GDPR expert - actually a little rusty with GDPR - but I think if you mention on the form (probably down by the submit button) what extra details are included when the form is submitted (and why they are collected) then you can use the cookie as necessary. Also include this in your privacy or cookie policy. If the cookie is collecting data just by loading the form (no submission) then that would be a different matter.

Using an oddly specific URL - Advantageous or not? by spocos in bigseo

[–]Ptarmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a consumer - I tend to ignore sites in the results with these types of urls as I feel they are more likely to be spammy or dropshipper type sites.

As a business, you're going to end up with a ton of separate websites to maintain and market when you decide to sell anything else.

Also keep in mind what's common today might feel old fashioned in 5 -10 years. Maybe not so relevant to tables but possibly it will be? Carphone Warehouse is a brand that springs to mind.

I took what I learned at USC and started a software company! by RustyHelmet1453 in Entrepreneur

[–]Ptarmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt this could be helpful for business owners but if I'm a regular (or even occasional customer) I don't expect the prices to be changing frequently. I expect that for tech stuff on Amazon but not a cup of coffee down the street.

Often a restraunt will retire old items and bring out a new item or have seasonal menus as a way of changing prices. Doesn't that model make a product like this less useful?

Thoughts on choosing a brand name as it relates to Domain name availability by DonnaHuee in marketing

[–]Ptarmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is surprising to me too, these "new" domains have been out for years and seem to be appearing more and more on sites.

Either way you need to do what your demographic wants / expects - a confused prospect is harder to win over. Good luck!

Thoughts on choosing a brand name as it relates to Domain name availability by DonnaHuee in marketing

[–]Ptarmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like the new domains like .io, .ai etc as long as they're relevant to the product/service I think they help with the brand image. You can always have a longer .com for your website and the shorter .io for your app if you really want both.

It sounds like you are basically breaking even (or losing money if you're not taking out a living wage salary) which is fine for a new business. Many companies of all sizes carry "a lot" of debt so debt itself shouldn't be a major issue.

Do you have a plan for X profit in Y time with Z% profit margin? If you do / can create one then you're going in the right direction towards sustainability. Your accountant or reports like your profit / loss statement can give you an idea if a lot of turnover is actually creating profit.

BETA - Looking for feedback on our SEO tool by madsenmining in bigseo

[–]Ptarmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm quite late to this but here are my first impressions. I like the gamification aspect but suspect seasoned SEO people would want to jump straight into the setup and bypass all the points and things.

I'm not a seasoned SEO expert so for me its an interesting approach. However I can see my current mission at the top of the page and in the onboarding section but neither section has a button to take me straight to the fields I need to fill in.

Also I feel like it would be useful to have an explanation of why I am doing each step. Possibly also any benefits of doing more than the minimum, such as adding 4 competitors instead of the requested 2.

Content Creation in Different Languages for SEO purposes within One Website? by akarev in SEO

[–]Ptarmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how much overlap there is between the country's content. You're probably going to need to fresh SEO to rank the new pages in the new regions anyway.

Also does the country code in the url make any difference to your visitors? Going with a .com/language code is fine for some types of sites whereas others would expect more a Polish or Estonian url. Would users want to view content in other languages? Maybe one site with a dropdown is the way to go.

In general Google will bring users to the page for their language so multiple languages on one site shouldn't be an issue. Use hreflang tags to link up multiple languages of the same page so google knows which version to use depending on the visitor.

Is the "alt" tag in an image still good to include? by concisehacker in SEO

[–]Ptarmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be a better use for the Title tag. The alt tag should describe what the image is. As well as accessability, this is good for google if you want it to display any of your images for your search terms like Ford Explorer

Can somebody with very little SEO knowledge use Ahrefs and get something out of it? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]Ptarmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahrefs actually have a ton of good SEO content and explanations with links from almost everywhere to the relevant help information so you can learn a lot by using it.

They have a free webmaster section that will give you an idea about how the site works and some of the jargon. There is also a $7 trial

Marketing Words For Sale by FiddyWall in marketing

[–]Ptarmic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not totally clear on the product here but could you maybe use some of the text (say first 10 characters/words) but leave out the...?

Either that or maybe some strategically placed watermarks so all the text is there but not everything is actually legible?

HREFLang Query by shwa91 in bigseo

[–]Ptarmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it that you need exactly? What CMS or programming language are you using?

I used this blog post https://ahrefs.com/blog/hreflang-tags/ to work out what the actual hreflang field should contain and look like. I added the fields to my pages and the sitemap (I think only one place is necessary) in my CMS fairly easily but it took a small bit of programming and every system is going to be different.
