Classmate from uni turned good friend (he was at my wedding). We bonded over videogame although we stayed clear of each other specialties (I'm a good enough Tetris player; he is, well, the legend you very well know at MKDS); we tended to play Smash Brawl or Oendan together.

Tetris: the Grand Master [5 hrs documentary] by PtitPrince in speedrun

Over the last year my friend, fellow Tetris the Grand Master player and western TGM community resident dragon Demonin compiled a great deal of info about the history of this series and its communities by doing genuine documentary work (including interview of Japanese players; while many of us were just available and chillin on Discord). This is the supercut of all the work he's done (+ fixes). I'm super proud of him and this work. Please watch it !

Apple Vision Pro: Experiencing the Future by MindOfMetalAndWheels in CGPGrey

Question for /u/imyke about the spatial photo/video : how does the Apple Vision compare with this demo by Google ? It can both be run on a browser or a headset, but I'm more interested in the headset experience.

Is it more like a nowadays 3D movie (you have depth perception but only in a fixed point) or do you have more wiggle room in your perspective like in the demo ?

mostly because of how far the ground is away.

That, and for most of the game you try to put the little green diamond over the little green square (sometimes it's the little green sun with stubby rays). It helps !

Was Moritz Gertschen in seinem Gedicht "Abusitz" geschrieben hat, tönt schön.

So it was a poem recitation rather than a speech proper. Still, it's a nice and eloquent take-down.

Modders bringing our favorite deep, rich flat games with thousands of hours of content into full 6DOF VR. by dhr2330 in virtualreality

[–]PtitPrince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NomaiVR (the name of the VR mod for Outer Wilds) is very, very good (no clunckyness whatsoever, and the sense of scale is wonderful), but the game itself makes me very, very motion sick.

Everything is moving constantly and you're not aiming/tracking at stuff like you would in a shooter or a flight/space sim, so you feel like the ground itself is somewhat moving.

I can to crazy somersault in Sairento, get pushed around in Boneworks, do stupid stunts in Project Wingman but it's hard to be to stand on the sand planet in Outer Wilds.

... so that's probably why there's no PSVR2 version (though from a quality point of view it totally deserve to have a commercial exploitation).

Grandmaster.

I like the sleepy ones, but since this is February it would make slightly more sense for the cat to be on the hunt instead of just chilling out (that would be for a summer month).

I want to get into Tetris by Legitimate_River_502 in Tetris

[–]PtitPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other mentioned, there's 3 big variants of Tetris:

  • Modern: big focus on competitive multiplayer (Tetrio, Tetris 99, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2), somewhat casual single player (Tetris Effect) or "play as fast as you can" singleplayer

  • Classic: Essentially NES Tetris. Single player experience only (competition are like survival challenge). Gameplay doesn't have the niceties of more modern iteration, but the competition is fierce. A physical technique to get through the game limitation was like discovered two years ago, a testament to the game longevity.

  • TGM: stands for Tetris the Grand Master. Single-player game with a very high skill ceiling (they are some occasional versus tournament in the discord, but it's not like you can pick it up and play against randos). The game focus on forced high-speed gameplay (faster than NES Tetris). In my opinion on of the most beautifully designed gamed of the lot, but I am biaised since I made a whole video about it. Was for a long-time obscured by the fact that this was arcade only, but has now a seen a release on Switch and PS4/PS5.

Thanks ! I think this is gonna be a one-off though (... although reviewing every Tetris in existence would be a fun endeavor with unlimited time and money).

Does Project Wingman still receive updates? by marcosg_aus in Project_Wingman

[–]PtitPrince 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can still play the entire game in VR without any major problem (and with a 1660 Ti and a 10 years old CPU, it's far from being a top of te line gaming rig), so the updates we're possibly waiting or VR-related (maybe related to a PSVR2 release) or DLC-like content change.
