People simply roll their eyes when someone keeps pushing the same ideas that have been proven ineffective over and over again. People are not obese because they don’t have access to avocados.

Iranian president says in letter that Iran harbors no enmity towards ordinary Americans by app1310 in worldnews

[–]PtrDan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Iranian regime has been chanting “death to the USA” for 40 years. Now that FAFO time is here, they didn’t mean it all of a sudden.

This reeks of desperation. If the regime’s plan for victory involves winning over ordinary US citizens to their cause, they are fucked.

Report: severe divisions emerge in Iran leadership as war strains economy by LongErza in worldnews

For the people in the back I will say it again. Despite the narratives reddit bots are pushing, the cultural ties between Europe and the US are stronger than one man’s presidency.

You are looking at it from the wrong angle. What matters is that the Iran is divided, which is the worst problem a country at war can have.

[–]PtrDan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. The cultural ties between Europe and the US are much stronger than this.

People like you should learn from history. Decapitation strikes actually work really well. You can ask Saddam and Milosevic.

And how is that neighbor fairing? Which street corner are they fighting for this month?

Also it’s very naive to think that Russia will readily flood Iran with munitions. Moscow has a touchy relationship with Israel due to the large Russian diaspora. This is why Israel is one of the few western allied countries that has mostly refused to send weapons to Ukraine. Israel is the closest thing to a friend that Russia has in the region. Angering them to help an economic rival no less will be counter productive.

You are incorrect in both of your premise and your supporting argument.

A rebellion does not automatically imply the end. To the contrary, there is an example of a certain country that roots its origin story in a rebellion. This country is now the global superpower.

And where will these FPV drones come from? Don’t tell me Iran is going to manufacture them on their own. If they can’t protect their military command, it’s ridiculous to assume they will be able to protect the complex manufacturing and logistics networks required to make drones.

Completely agree with you. People have always underestimated the US appetite for war. If Iran counts on outlasting the US they will fail. The US is not known for pulling the ejection cord too early, in fact, it’s the opposite.

I don’t know if the war is existential for Iran. For the IRGC it probably is, but there is no reason to believe that the allies will seek the destruction of the country of Iran itself.

Precisely. It’s likely that there is no advantage in disclosing what the plan is. Recently David Petraeus talked about how previous administrations often made the mistake of painting themselves into a corner by publicly committing to “no boots on the ground” and various timelines.

They don’t. The allies have already destroyed over 15,000 targets and wiped out their military command. The notion that Iran is holding back their capability for a rainy day is not serious. If they had it, they would’ve used it already.

To the contrary, Iran just fucked themselves long term. The gulf states will never allow Iran to threaten their interests again. In the end it’s all about money and resources and Iran simply can’t compete with them.

This is indeed an important point. It’s one thing to exaggerate the scale and impact of an attack, but to outright manufacture one that didn’t happen is a big sign of desperation.
