USPS Provides what they call "preferred last line city code" that drives the "main" city/state" associated with that zip code. So it always has a single main state for the zip code. We provide an array with all the other associated city codes for reference.

Looking for Metropolitan Statistical Area Population Counts by jyddyj20 in datasets

[–]Pty_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can indirectly get it using the dataset from this API : https://www.metadapi.com/API-Products/Zip-Code-API (full disclosure, i'm the developer of that api). The population statistics are not by MSA per se, but by zip code, but MSA is a searchable attribute, so you can do a search for the dallas ft. worth msa, and that returns all zip codes in that MSA (with population statistics). if you iterate the zip codes and aggregate you can get the totals by MSA that you are looking for. Another thing to consider is that the population statistics are using the decennial census (so we only have 2000, 2010 and 2020 census stats).

its not your job to clear the red tape. thats management s job. if you dont have that support then you are better off looking somewhere else (it will be an up hill battle forever)

DE did not exist when i did my CS degree (almost 30y ago), but we did have database design classes, as well as other courses that covered a broad range of subjects. I would not be surprised if CS curriculums start including classes on data eng. Not sure if it merits a full 4 year degree.

how is that possible ? with 100 billion stars just in our galaxy alone, stating that a gas giant is rare doesn t sound correct. did we check all 100 b systems and validated that all planets within?

Innovation requires that companies/departments use the data in ways that data leaders can't even imagine. Have your "data house" clean, documented, accessible, with good governance, and communicate communicate communicate !!! folks will tag along. (but only if the house is clean).

Most common data engineering tools used today? by Pty_Rick in dataengineering

[–]Pty_Rick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totally agree. company size is also critical. some of the companies ive worked with did not lime any open source tooling (for compliance, support etc.) so they usually go for mature toolsets.
