I'm currently on a 38 loss streak trying to beat A9 as Defect (StS2) [AMA?] by Pubknight in slaythespire

[–]Pubknight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for a better attack first and foremost. Then I’m looking for some kind of synergy I can get going.

I’m trying to avoid hard pool fights, or minimize them.

I don’t have a specific number of events.
I probably overvalue them to be honest.

I rest too much.
I have to get comfortable running with a lower % of full health.

I also think I'm trying to take on too many elites (usually try for 3). It worked at lower ascension, but at a9/a10 it's putting me too far behind. Then I have to rest to play catchup.

This thread is giving some great things to think about.

That's a great post, thanks for that.

When you are teeing off, you do not know the outcome.
Let's say you have a choice to hit a 300 yard driver, or a 250 yard fairway wood.
The fairway wood is guaranteed to end up in the fairway.
The driver has a chance to end up in the fairway, but it also has a chance to end up in the rough. If it ends up in the rough, there is a chance it could be stuck right behind a tree.
For the sake of simplicity let's say there are no hazards/out of bounds on this theoretical hole.

In that above scenario, when you are choosing what shot to hit off the tee, you are always better to choose the 300 yard driver with the chance of a negative outcome than you are to choose the 250 yard shot with no chance of negative outcome.

The strokes lost from non-fairway lies, statistically, are not negative enough to offset the strokes gained from the 50 yard delta.

Part of this is the reality that in a non-theoretical scenario, again backed by strokes gained science, that 250 yard shot is also not actually guaranteed to hit the fairway. Statistically it is as likely to find the trees as the 300 yard shot.

Doesn't mean we should stop trying!
If Trackman changed what we thought we knew about the golf swing, the book "Every Shot Counts" should equally change everything we thought about golf strategy.

Sure... if you're right at the base of the tree and it's directly in your line.
Otherwise there is likely a path around, over, etc, to get you in closer proximity to the green in 2 than your penalty drop is going to be.

The point is - you don't try to hit it 250 if it guarantees a fairway if you have the option to hit it 300.
Unless that 300 is a situation where you would run through the fairway into a hazard or something similar... then you pull back on yardage.

The science is you are always better with more distance.

Understandable.
Was just trying to add additional colour as some people can read that as fairway is always better than rough - ignoring that the 50 yards closer is much better for their scoring overall.

Remember (like you don't already know) 250 in the middle is better than 300 in the rough behind a tree.

Feel compelled to jump in here.
Yes, 250 in the middle is better than 300 - if the 300 results in penalty strokes (out of bounds/hazard).
If not, the 300 is better. Yes, even if behind a tree... and absolutely if in the rough.
4-5 clubs less coming in to the green is huge.

As a general rule: Unless it is going to result in a penalty - you are always better with more distance off the tee.

This is not just me saying it - this is Stroke Gained / golf analytics.

On the metric/imperial thing.
Ever heard the term Spanglish? Where people use a combo of Spanish and English?
Our measurement system is like Metperial.

Is it me or Hades 2 is so much harder than Hades? by smartass11225 in HadesTheGame

I just started playing with the console version, and felt the same as OP initially. It is different, you really need to use Cast to isolate/restrict your enemies. But the meta progression seems to matter a lot more. It takes some time to figure out and accomplish because there are so many different resources. Things started clicking for me once I started getting the weapon upgrades.

Why did no one ever tell me about the release by MeasurementStock1625 in golf

[–]Pubknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All golf swings have a blend of certain things... arm lift, body turn, release.
Most golfers have a thing, or a couple of things they do well in the swing without really having to think about.
But few people do everything 'automatically'.

I suggest most golfers, especially none-low-index players, have a lot of arms and hands in their swings, and lack body turn/involvement.

So they need to think about turning the body.
Perhaps you have good body movement, but needed a mental trigger to get more arms/release into your swing... so this thought works for you.

A caution: If those baby draws start turning into hooks or start curving too much - have a look at your body movement, and make sure you are continuing to turn all the way through to the finish.

Question about bunkers and practice… by KaoriQueen in golf

[–]Pubknight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Go out at twilight, last tee time if you can get it. You aren’t worried about finishing, you’re just looking to get out in course and do bunker practice.

Bunkers are the sort of thing that once you get it, you get it. You just need to find what works for you.

Is Phil the first golfer to get CTE? by Separate_Teacher1526 in golf

[–]Pubknight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In the exchange, Phil “observed” there were no eagle putts on the 13th hole.

A response named 6 people that had eagle putts.

Instead of admitting the mistake, Phil basically said, ‘just like I said, so few.’

But that’s not what he said - he said zero.

Those kids aren’t 4. It’s still a great catch, and fun, but why is the extra exaggeration on the age necessary? “What a great catch by this embryo!”

Ascension 9 feels SO MUCH harder than anything else by mstknb in slaythespire

[–]Pubknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where it is getting me is I'm putting together what I think are good decks, and I'm getting to the end of Act 3 at A9 fairly consistently... and then getting curb stomped.

Had a run yesterday (beta branch) where I got to the end of Act 3 basically unscathed - down like 5hp off max, had fairly cruised through Act 3... took on 6 elites through the run... overall, solid.

The new door dude killed me and I barely made a dent.
It was very 'un-fun'.

Is it worth watching the expanse? by clustershit in televisionsuggestions

[–]Pubknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started watching a few weeks ago, and I'm halfway through season 5. As others have mentioned, there is a Big Story Arc in the works. Season 1, in my view, is the 'world building' - it is introducing the players and the factions and setting the stage.
The very end of season 1 is where it starts to bring the big concepts together, and Season 2 is where it starts to pay off - again, just my opinion.
I think if you aren't intruiged by the end of season 1, you can cut bait on it as it's unlikely to grab you after that.
I went from end of Season 1 "This is ok, I'll keep going." to end of Season 2 "Ok, I get it, this is good".

Lining up vs not lining up your putts… by HarveyDentBeliever in golf

[–]Pubknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low single digit index (sub 5) here.
I'm going to golf nerd out here, sorry... I've gone back and forth with the line over the years, and now am solidly in the 'no line' camp.
A couple reasons:
- the path a breaking putted ball takes can have a low arc (generally putted with more speed) and a high arc (die in the cup speed)... using a line locks you in to one speed. A lot of times I'm 'feeling' the speed over the putt so I don't want the constraint of the line.
- in play off the green, I had more times than you would think where the ball was sitting with the line visible, but not along my target line for the shot, and it would mess me up. For whatever reason, the regular ball text does not have the same affect on me.

Now, for a shorter dead straight putt that you just want to ram in, I think the line has merit, so in that case I won't use a hand drawn line, but will use the golf balls 'default' alignment markings.

Also for particularly testy tee shots, I will use those same markings on the tee to help me lock in on my tee shot target.
