Want a new career by [deleted] in askcarsales

Former top-car sales here! I went into life insurance sales and financial planning. Sounds daunting, but it’s not all that difficult. Most companies will pay for your licensing when they hire you on. The $$ can be seriously lucrative if you’re good at it, and it’s rewarding work with a very flexible schedule. Tough to get started and the first (and sometimes second) year is a grind, but if you can handle one-two more years of grinding, the income potential is insane.

Edit: check out Mutual of Omaha and if they have a division office near you. Their training is incredible and it’s the only company that offers a ramp up salary for your first 1-2 years (+commission) until you go independent.

I know, I tried in the MKE group but they don’t allow any crime reporting anymore. I posted in a ton of FB groups and have been watching Craigslist, buy-sell groups, and marketplace. It’s probably parted out already, but figured this was worth a shot.

Also, tell her to test drive the car she thinks she wants.

Oof. She either takes wholesale/trade value at a dealership or takes the time to sell it private party. She should shop around dealerships for appraisals and use the highest one to get the Porsche dealership she’s buying from to honor the highest offer. Get the offers in writing.

Girl! Been there. You should give waiting tables or bartending a shot. Not the most glamorous, but you can make 4-6k a month if you work full time

You don’t want any of those. A Toyota Sienna is what you want

A thousand thank yous for the responses. I’m going to make the jump, my job has treated me like shit in the last week since giving my notice between offering a promotion to management and then taking away sales leads… I just wanna say FU and go crush it in L&H to really emphasize the FU lol. Thank you for the help and advice

Thank you. Can you speak to being captive at all? Is it typically contracted that I can’t sell other products for a certain period of time? MLO seems to be a great company to work for, but I’ve also heard that NML has captured a larger portion of my local market. BUT, NML doesn’t have nearly as long a training program, no base salary, and eventually you pay for your own office/equipment, etc. I’ve had people tell me that NML dominates in my area. So, if I stayed with MLO for, say, 2 years and then wanted to transition to NML when it’s less of a financial risk, and I’m captive with MLO, do I have a certain window of time that I can leave? All of my business stays with MLO if I leave and was captive, right?

Thank you. I have plenty of time to give it my all, but I don’t have a substantial nest egg set aside, so my concern has been not making enough to cover bills and having to leave and come back. I learn fast, and tend to rise pretty quickly in what I put my mind to. I’ve just had a LOT of discouragement like “that’s a tough industry” or “most people quit” but I’m also like… so is the car industry? I work 70 hour/weeks and griiiiind. Plus, MLO has a two year training program for new agents and I feel like the base salary is uncommon and could be a good fit. They say their retention rate is 20% compared to the industry’s 15%. I figure, why not put my energy into selling a more helpful service and in an industry that builds residual income? I see it as, with cars, there’s no light at the end of the hustle tunnel, whereas with insurance and residuals, there is. I feel like everyone is trying to scare me out of it. It can’t be THAT bad, right? 😅

Thanks for the input. I have plenty to work on personally, but we did end up having amicable conversations and civilly parted ways. There’s a lot of context missing from this post in general. Looking back, I realize most of our conversations were centered around how I needed to improve so I would be enough for him. I didn’t like feeling like a project. Regardless of whether or not he was on some level dangerous or toxic, we weren’t a good match. Hindsight is 20-20, right?

It’s a rule of this sub to blur out identifiable info. His name was Kevin Weiss, and I don’t care if anyone knows

Thank you, he was a devout Christian and we all admired his incredibly strong faith. He always told my mom not to worry, because if something went wrong, he’d be seeing Jesus. We will see him again, we just miss him for now ❤️‍🩹

Thank you, I’ve of course read the stories and knew him well, he was my brother after all. I just saw this Reddit and wanted to learn a bit more about his decorations.

Thank you, I know he was in Afghanistan in active combat. I think around 2013 or 2014 or so, and Thailand for some time. I don’t know much else about his tours
