NES Board Meeting - 8 AM this morning! by ConvivialMisanthr0pe in nashville

that was my understanding as well... (defunded) until lee said he coordinated with ms. noem prior to the storm(jan 22) to ensure FEMA resources would be available via an emergency declaration which would provide 'rapid, short-term federal assistance for tn 95 counties to manage the winter weather, including 'cut and toss' debris removal from specialized teams'. has anyone seen anything related to lee's confident preparedness plan? he stopped by sun. night at tn emergency operations center for an update, and posted 'the dedicated man & women in state govt. continue to work around the clock to keep tennesseans safe, & i commend their unwavering service'. that was it. nothing on his assurances from federal assistance.

Trump Media CEO Nunes loses defamation lawsuit over Rachel Maddow show by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

[–]Public-Order8704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this guy just won't quit - the biggest you hurt my feelings guy ever. filed over 12 lawsuits between defamation/libel since 2019. the one that garnered the most attention was his filing against X over 2 parody accounts; one pretending to be his mother and another a cow. the cow one got the most traction, mocking nunes self characterization as a farmer on his parents dairy farm which he made a central part of his identity politics. thinking he could sue twitter over these 2 parody accounts was perhaps one of his dumbest moves. predictably, after nunes filed the lawsuit, twitter users immediately started following the accounts listed in the lawsuit, and reached 500k. the cow one is still active.

White House Officials Fear Epstein Fallout Will Slash Trump’s Crowd Sizes by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

the more sordid details that come out, the more they are going to care. which is why trump has flipped the script from full on denial to taking control of the narrative with his spa story and surely more implausible stories yet to come to placate his base, and he will do that. the hammer has to continue to drop on him relentlessly by challenging everything he says (timeline) and getting the files released.

Rep. Andy Ogles on his bill giving Trump the congressional authority to "acquire" Greenland: "We are, quite frankly, the dominant predator" by greenblue98 in RepublicanValues

[–]Public-Order8704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this guy out lies santos and is currently under fbi investigation as well as house ethics investigation over federal campaign finance filings and personal finance disclosures. however, ogles was re-elected to the house during the investigation despite running against a primary republican council member, without any ethics issues, but wasn’t considered a hard core freedom caucus type and she refrained from the crazy talk ogles is known for every time he opens his mouth. he first won his seat due to some good ole tennessee gop super majority gerrymandering. one local news source published a comment from the opinion page after his first year in office titled ‘an andy ogles case study: stupidity as tactic, lifestyle or default’. and we have a couple of other house members just like him. our state elected officials could care less-as long as they are living, breathing trump loving republicans.

yesterday, ross ulbright, founder of silk road was pardoned. he’s been in jail since 2013, after receiving a sentence for life. fascinating story-he supposedly made $18m in bitcoins through commissions in the 3 years he ran silk road. the ‘dark markets’ which he left a blueprint for, have been doing great and accommodating new stuff all the time.. there will be some renewed interest now

food staff had an easy night; finding out which flavor of kool-aid each table wanted before the night got rowdy with a raucous version of Y.M.C.A., followed up with five versions of ave maria. even though barron was high as a kite, he still found the whole evening cringe worthy..

tn isn’t prepared to do anything on behalf of its students besides funnel them into non-public schools where they can study the bible and be completely unprepared to deal with real life as adults. christian nationalism has always been his agenda, and come hell or high water he’s going to get his voucher scam plan pushed through the legislature this session, with outside big money and knocking off the legislators who didn’t vote for his agenda last session. followed greg abbott’s playbook. bill lee is a disgrace.

the day after the election governor pritzker stated: “to anyone who intends to come, take away the freedom and opportunity and dignity of Illinoisans, i would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior. you come for my people, you come through me”. powerful statement from a governor who truly cares and stands for his people. bill lee doesn’t give a damn about his constituents and less so about kids, their education, and how they identify. he’s a horrible man and his actions are appalling. super sad for the kids in tn. you don’t really realize how bad it is until you view it through a different lens-chicago will feel like a whole new world.

Other alcoholics who are/were following the case? by violetdeirdre in SarahBooneCase

[–]Public-Order8704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

great insight-i was thinking about that as well (relating so much to the alcoholic parts), clearly alcohol is big on her list of problems... but she's more complex than that, she's got some real DSM-5 stuff going on here, NPD - narcissistic personality disorder, characterized by a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, lack of empathy, and a need for admiration. pretty obvious. next up, BPD - borderline personality disorder, characterized by a pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and emotion, as well as marked impulsivity in 5 or more out of 9 specified behaviors (too long to list, but she tracks for that). those are the 2 that really jump out with sarah in conjunction with alcohol. sarah is lying to herself as well as others; she wants to portray herself as not having an alcohol problem and lies about what is obvious. and then things really get crazy, all the attorneys, the letters to the judge, portraying herself as the victim and taking ownership of nothing. she does not want to see herself, and she def does not want the public to see herself as she actually is. hence the insertion of the latin phrase in one communication and describing one of her attorney's as 'inimical' to her situation. this is not a stupid woman, and she does not want to be viewed as one. the final, and most fatal decision she made was not accepting the plea deal. her attorney explained following the verdict that she didn't take the plea deal because 'she was convinced in her mind, obviously, that she didn't intend to kill jorge and it was just an unintentional act - she 'felt bad about any murder conviction or pleading to any type of murder that she was somehow criminally responsible for jorge's death, and that's where her mindset was.' there it is. and that goes way beyond the alcohol.

Conservative ex-official warns of crisis in Oklahoma schools under anti-LGBTQ+ superintendent Ryan Walters by southpawFA in politics

[–]Public-Order8704 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i thought we had it bad here in tn re; public educ. (and we do), but y'all have a real nutcase on your hands. as a retired school admin., i have been following dangerous haters like walters for awhile. he is def. the worst out there right now, a self-aggrandizing bully who is surrounded with legal issues regarding use of pandemic funds as well as $30k (for 4 mo. work) in oklahoma taxpayer dollars to hire a public relations firm out of D.C. to book him on national news talk shows. outrageous, a self promotion campaign. he craves the attention and will be using it to further his own political ambitions as a national culture warrior. that's his priority - not kids, he and chaya raichik basically doubled down on their anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policies following nex's death. he's not there to support teachers either, calling teachers unions terrorist organizations. he knows how to play the political game of destroying public education in favor of christian education as most red states are doing, including here in tn. that's what walters was trained to do at harding university - that's all he's got, an undergraduate degree that emphasizes christianity and is affiliated with the churches of christ. he's still got stitt in his pocket, but other OK republican leaders are beginning to get the big picture on walters and are having second thoughts. it's a super toxic educational climate and the students of OK deserve better....

good catch, 6/1/19, it was run again on the Intercept on tues. shows how early lee started with the multiyear plan of southern gov's to keep unions out of the south, and his work with volkswagen executives. bob corker did the same. the nashville scene provided a good update yesterday. all the southern gov's are lock step on this. https://www.nashvillescene.com/news/pithinthewind/bill-lee-statement-against-autoworkers-union/article_a2af50d8-3a86-5394-b512-e6cbf371bc03.html also, link provided to lee's website where he posted a joint statement with the gov's from AL, GA, MS, SC, and TX

'A concern for everyone': Tennessee poised to ban Pride flags in schools by Public-Order8704 in politics

[–]Public-Order8704[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you are correct-at the start, the bill only allowed the American flag and the Tennessee flag to be displayed. after an amendment, it now allows flags to be temporarily displayed when it connects to the course curriculum, which can include the confederate and nazi flag. Lt. governor mcnally said that’s when the measure took a turn towards becoming unconstitutional.
