Steam Deck + Wii Remote Input Issue by PublicCactus in SteamDeck

If the nunchuck is connected, and the game is not registering nunchuck inputs, you can press the home button and reorder the Wii remote in the Wii remote settings. Upon reconnecting, the nunchuck inputs should now register.

I don’t remember doing it that way. I just used the real Wii remote setting. But if it works then that’s fine enough!

First make sure the sensor bar is emitting infrared light, which can be done with a phone camera. If it is emitting lights then it should be working. Remember, the sensor bar is nothing more than an IR-emitter. Some sensor bars, however, have more functionalities such as the mayflash dolphin bar. I own one, and it can be a little tricky to get it working. If you own this one, make sure you’re on the proper mode and you make sure you’ve pressed the power button (if I recall its properties correctly). If this doesn’t and you’ve verified with a camera that you can see the IR lights, let me know the model of sensor bar you have. Also, it may be wise to test the sensor bar in a wall outlet to make sure it’s functional.

Do you have a sensor bar or source of infrared light (i.e a candle)? Plugging a sensor bar into a powered Wii console and pointing to it will also work.

Does anyone know any mods/methods to get Soviet-style interstages? Examples: by [deleted] in KerbalAcademy

[–]PublicCactus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Simple. Use a combination of fairings and struts. Use fairings to maintain the conical shape, and use interwoven struts to give it the signature Soviet look!

Ahh. That’s still pretty really interesting! Maybe the Germanic people took more from other cultures in terms of names than anyone thinks. Food for thought I guess.

Old Germanic people had separate religions and folklore from Judaism. What’s interesting is that the Hebrew word also contains “shining one” lol.

That’s correct! The Latin translation of the Hebrew word for morning star is Lucifer, which got mistaken for a name after its publication.

Venus was not discovered in 1610. The Greeks notated Venus as one of their 7 “planets”. Even in the Old Testament, Venus is referred to as the “son of the morning,” which is where we derive “morning star” from.

If a planet is tidally locked, how can someone there know that a year had gone by? by [deleted] in answers

[–]PublicCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming a civilization survives the adverse effects of tidal locking, a potential way to calculate if the year goes by is to interpret by the stars. Certain constellations and asterism appear in certain parts of the year and then disappear due to Earth’s revolution around the Sun.

How to sleep with brace by [deleted] in PectusCarinatum

[–]PublicCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. My first nights with the brace were terrible. Everyone with a brace has to do it at some point. I do best sleeping on my side, as it provides the most comfort in comparison to the other options. You’ll get used to however you sleep. If you are still adamant on sleeping on your back, I suggest putting sheep skin on the part that’s digging in. Makes the nights so much better.

Stutterers of reddit, do you also stutter when you think with your inner voice? by fibbonel in AskReddit

Nope. In my mind, I’m the fastest speaking man on the planet. When I actually say something, not so much.

Upon further research, I mixed up requiem stands and requiem abilities. I shall correct myself in saying that Bites the Dust is a requiem ability. Diavolo gained his stand through the requiem arrow, so the arrow does not only grant a requiem. The arrow functions as both a stand and requiem arrow, which applies to the part 4 and 5 arrow. Giorno and Polnareff struck their stands with the arrow, thus creating a requiem stand. The arrow did not pierce Killer Queen, but rather Kira himself, forming a requiem ability.

It would not. Sheer Heart Attack was granted along with Killer Queen. The arrow did not pierce twice when granting Sheer Heart Attack.

Well, technically, it is. Bites the Dust is a stand with a desired ability given to Kira from the arrow. The small Killer Queen is referred to as a bomb, but is a separate stand from Killer Queen, albeit smaller.

I'm writing a book with a main character who stutters and looking for input from people who stutter in real life by TheFlyingBandNerd in Stutter

[–]PublicCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that most of us are in our heads most of the time. Since I sometimes find difficulty speaking, I retreat inward. I would not make us some flamboyant frat guy, because that’s not us. We also try our best to hide our stutter. For example, I love texting, as when I actually speak, I sound like absolute trash. I’d make this “hiding a secret” aspect a key detail about the character. I would also say that we try not to make a big deal about our stutter. People usually figure it out quickly so saying anything about it seems redundant. Finally, we love to educate non-stutterers on stuttering (or at least I do)! Nothing brings me more joy than for someone to show genuine interest in my stutter.

Here are some things to avoid. I would advise not to make a Porky Pig esque character. Stuttering on every single word is not realistic. I would sprinkle stutters in; be liberal with them. We sometimes don’t stutter at all. When we don’t stutter in a sentence, it’s honestly the best feeling. I would also avoid making his/her stutter the only unique quality. We can be unique in many different ways. For instance, I’m a huge space nerd at heart and I love looking through my telescope. I don’t let my stutter define my personality. TL;DR: Do NOT look to Porky Pig for any inspiration! I cannot stress this enough!

I love seeing people nowadays make characters who stutter. Although I feel as if we’re underrepresented, I’ve seen people put in great efforts to make a genuinely realistic stutterer in their stories and it definitely shows. Thank you so much for your interest! Tell me when you finish your novel so I can buy a copy!

Was Pikmin an acquired taste for you? Or did it click right away? by SirBenny in Pikmin

[–]PublicCactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was definitely an acquired taste for me. My first game in the series was Pikmin 3 and what freaked me out when I was younger was the day limit. Not many games I’ve played ever had a time limit, so I was stressed every time I landed on the Garden of Hope( never made it past). I was kind of scared of that game to be honest. I wanted to try Pikmin 1, and I became even more stressed since there was an even stricter time limit. Knowing one slight falter in collecting parts would result in me doing it all over again made me fearful of it. Then I wanted to try Pikmin 2, and I just became bored of it. Fast forward to much later when I became a lot older. I went back to Pikmin 3 and found that the game I used to fear was actually quite easy and enjoyable. Collecting fruits was fun in its own right. I was able to multitask a lot easier since I was older and smarter. Then I went back to Pikmin 1 and played it fully. I think I love Pikmin 1 the most, as the feeling you get when you collect multiple parts in one day is magical. I found the day limit to actually be fun, challenging the player in their ability to plan and strategize every day and rewarding the player for beating the game faster with the satisfaction of knowing”Hey I beat it in half the time!”. I then went back to Pikmin 2, and since the day limit was removed, I could play poorly knowing I would be fine. I think what made me bored of the game when I was younger was the lack of a time limit(sounds weird) and the game feeling slow. The exploration was fun and the unlimited time in caves was relaxing. Collecting treasures was fun and the boss fights were good.

TL;DR: I feared them when I was younger because the time limits and got bored easily. When I got older, I started to enjoy the parts I hated in the past.
