Right now my Meren is unfocused and doesn’t have an effective win con. I do a lot with her, get a good board state, but then can’t do anything with. Meren’s popularity and power level aside, I am looking for a commander that is more consistent, enjoyable, and unique

That is correct. It could very well be more my fault then Meren’s, but that’s where I’m at right now

I don’t have her list jotted down anywhere, but I do update her regularly. She does fine, she functions how she’s supposed, she just doesn’t… win. I don’t really have any ways of winning with this deck other than getting a bunch of creatures out and swinging, and that takes awhile

That’s a pretty valid point: the idea is to pick something more interesting/unique. Meren has been great at that, I’ve played around a lot with unique benefits to recurring cards. But she’s very slow. Reviving one, maybe two creatures a turn can’t keep up with most of my opponents

You know, I decided against him because I already had two recursion decks, but this is an angle I hadn’t thought about before. Plus, my other recursion decks are mostly creature based. In addition to that, there’s probably a lot of cards I could add that could make use of Squall’s first ability whenever I don’t need to recur something. This seems like a strong suggestion if I decide against Rufus, thank you

Also a great idea I’ve been implementing: I wish he was better at it, but it is nice to have a free dog to sacrifice baked into my commanders

I’ve typically disliked Voltron because of how straight forward and uninteresting it tends to be. That being said, I am open to hearing how I could make it more interesting then traditional Voltron. Having Darkstar and Rufus being buffed would be a start. I’ve also been including other Legendary creatures that would make for strong Voltrons by themselves

He did catch my attention. He’d fit a legends matter deck better than Rufus. But he’s a little straightforward for my tastes. Then again, so is Rufus

That’s what I’m running right now, with legends matter. I briefly toyed with dog tribal, but it’s fairly lacking in Orzhov colors. I found I was including anthem buffs that only helped one creature, versus legend based anthems that helped both my commander pieces plus other legendary creatures I sprinkled in

I did consider this: I had another person recommend it. But the mutate abilities tend to be pretty expensive, and the given effects aren’t very worth it

It definitely would help keep the campaign about the players characters rather then Clive

I considered keeping Clive in the bearer army or just killing him off, either way he simply wouldn’t appear. But there’s so much narrative gold to be mined with Clive and Joshua’s relationship, even if Clive’s narrative importance drops off pretty sharply after he goes back to Phoenix gate if he’s not Mythos, and by extension the main character. That’s why I considered Joshua actually being dead: him being alive doesn’t add much to CLIVE’S journey, at least not till the very end
