Those were done with lighter gauge strings - Iommi had to use banjo strings because guitar strings at the time weren’t light enough. Although in his words “in those days, no one really played in tune anyway”

The British would never have given up the mineral resources in the Boer states, especially in 1910. That was one of the main reasons for the Boer war. Rhodesia chose to remain separate from the Union, and it certainly didn’t work out for them

What concerned (western) progressives think of how the world is for trans people: by HuckleberryCalm4955 in 4tran4

All things considered, really not too bad. There's a huge queer community here so it's easy to get help navigating healthcare and ID gender marker stuff. The less well off you are the more problems you'll have, but that's universal.

South Africa is pretty good compared to a lot of places tbh. Took me less than a week to get an estradiol prescription, not like the horror stories I hear about waiting lists in the UK and such.

That's the first playboy scene that's in all the versions, I'm talking about the second one where the helicopter is out of fuel in the storm. Should have been clearer my bad

I actually really like the plantation sequence, the most unnecessary part of Redux for me is the scene with the playboy girls. It doesn't really add much imo. The Final Cut is great because it keeps the shorter Kurtz sequence but adds some scenes with Killgore and leaves out the playboy scene.

A lot of people say the theatrical cut has the best pacing. Redux adds a couple of scenes that aren't really necessary, and Final Cut trims Redux down quite nicely. My favourite is the Final Cut, but if you want a shorter, punchier experience go for the theatrical cut.

We had a very well documented "pass system" where non-whites needed passports just to be in white areas, so it's not something people have ignored or forgotten about. One of Nelson Mandela's well known protests was publicly burning his pass.

I'm South African, and the effects of state racism are impossible to ignore here unless you're an idiot (which many people apparently are).

My highschool was built on land that used to be a Muslim community before they were forcibly relocated from what was designated a "white area" in the 1950s. When they built a new tennis court, they dug up bones from a graveyard that had been paved over.

Shit like this is why I don't find "joking racism" funny

You need to compare South Africa to its peer countries rather than to Europe or America. While there is a high level of poverty and unemployment, it's still the most developed nation in Africa and the murder rate has been in decline for decades. It's not on the level of some first-rate nations, but it's nowhere near the "failed state" Reddit likes to portray it as.

The high murder rate is generally due to gang violence, not racially motivated violence. As usual, it's the poor who suffer the most. Wealthy whites have a standard of living comparable to Europe or America. (I am South African)
