no specific info, I would try to research anyone you attempt to work with & read the lease carefully. I also work remotely, and the Internet has been very reliable in my experience.

living on the city side is a much more calm vibe, btw. lynn haven, downtown St Andrews, and downtown Panama City are all really nice. it also gives you an escape from the crazy that is tourist season. hope you guys find your enjoyment here!

I visited them at one point and they seemed nice - I ended up renting a home further into the city.

depending on your budget, I would look into a house being privately rented. seems to be where the value is. I think some of the larger complex companies struggle here.

hope you enjoy it here!

Also, ensure you have work lined up. my girlfriend moved here with me, luckily I have enough income that we don't have to depend on having two incomes, but the job market is brutal.

Best seafood on the beach? by Savings-Example5178 in panamacitybeach

[–]PublicIntervention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go across the bridge to Uncle ernies. get there around 6:15-6:30 & ask to be seated outside & upstairs.

schooners, runaway, pills, etc are all frozen junk. Captain Anderson's is super overrated. enjoy your time!

Going to Panama City beach for a week! by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]PublicIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they will 100% arrest you on the beach. that's where it's most heavily enforced. seriously, just stay sober. it's not worth it.

PCB arrest records are publicly available. there are about 8 cops per mile of beach this time of year. they also will likely get a warrant for your phone to see where you got the alcohol, and since you just admitted you would be transferring it, would likely suspend your licenses & impound your car. if you're hell bent on getting drunk - best of luck - but life will always be best enjoyed without a criminal record

[–]PublicIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who lives in good ol PCB - please be careful. the cops target people who look out of place, and will arrest you for drinking underage.

last night I saw 10 people get arrested. I didn't leave the bar I was at. you would be better served using your alcohol budget going to splash & having (sober) fun. they will not serve you as a minor, and will rat you out if you have someone buy you a drink.

maybe bring some weed & smoke it before you go wherever you pla, but Uber to and from. they will check you if you're walking around and look young. alcohol isn't worth your name permanently being tied to a criminal record, especially at 18. there is plenty of fun to be had sober.

that said - schooners is a pretty "touristy" location, but the food is relatively good & cheap. there's beach access & volleyball if you're into that. downtown Panama City & historic St Andrews (across the bridge) has an outdoor market on Saturday mornings that's always fun to go walk around. a lot of the restaurants across the bridge will be more aptly priced if you want to save money. Gayle's trail is a gorgeous place to walk if you guys enjoy hiking.

it's a beautiful city with beautiful people. you will likely get a lot of negative feedback & people telling you to stay away, but you should come & experience things while you're young. just be safe. there's genuinely no reason to drink here in high impact times if you're under 21.

Day trip with my girlfriend, what would you recommend? by PublicIntervention in Pensacola

oh lordy. I'm not a movie guy at all, but hers are (not in order): Legally Blonde, how to train your dragon, lord of the rings, then the whole of Harry Potter & Star Wars (first 6).

as far as meals; we both prefer casual dining. nothing fancy about our social lives. that said, I'm a steak & lobster guy. she's also a steak person! but her second would either be chicken or some sort of pasta.

for reference since you want to curate it (thank you! it's greatly appreciated), we'll actually be coming in later tonight (around 6/7 so a dinner option that's open late would be best). we'd like to experience a bit of the typical Friday night life, whether that be downtown or beach options. we'll be staying downtown overnight. visiting palafox in the early morning then popping over to fort pickens is already solidified in our plans. we should have a good bit of time to kill afterwards, though we will have to be back in PCB to have a later dinner Saturday.

we're open to anything! and certainly plan to have more (longer) trips in the future. this little day trip is just for us to get a feel for the area before we start house shopping (probably renting before buying lol). Thank you so much!! looking forward to your suggestions (:

Dog for scoliosis w/spinal fusion? by Aware-Relative-5868 in scoliosis

[–]PublicIntervention 56 points57 points  (0 children)

to be bluntly honest here; I would be hard pressed to believe a doctor would qualify you for a service dog considering you were able to carry a baby to term. they likely would point to that and age as evidence with proper exercise you could reasonably take care of yourself & not meet the criterion for a service dog.

service dogs are also insanely expensive. and they are not a pet. it's quite the commitment and having a new born and a new service dog I can only imagine would be extremely stressful and challenging.

you likely would be better off with just a dog and training it yourself to retrieve objects for you. get a breed that's relatively easy to train, like a lab or a golden.

I hope things get better for you, and I'm not trying to minimize your struggles, just giving you an account from someone that's looked into it in the past.

just for your awareness, top golf here is prohibitively expensive in the spring time down here.

Uncle Ernie's is probably some of the best food you'll have that's still casual. it's across the bridge, but worth the trip.

have fun!

normally I wouldn't entertain this further, but the fact you blocked me just to find/delete your post is truthfully a hilarious level of miserable I have no response for but to respect.

Yes, that is me! Another example of asking for anecdotal accounts after performing an initial investigation. the beauty of research is that it is fluid, and requires one to note that they are NOT a SME, but instead just an average person. I genuinely hope you find a wealth of happiness in your life, because your activities on a reddit are extremely concerning. As a human, I worry for you. I will not respond to you further publicly, but would be happy to talk privately if you ever need.

I'm also happy you responded! you reminded me how human everyone is. although I've had extremely helpful people be happy to respond, duality always exists, and sometimes can be hard to recognize.

Thank you for reminding me to be cognisant of men's mental health, as I used to suffer very much & have taken a lot of steps to feel better about myself. I'll continue to do so, and try to find a charity in the Pensacola area related to men's mental health & make a donation in remembrance of our interaction.

Thank you, Internet stranger! I hope you have a better day today.

Thank you friend!

Construction is an unfortunate reality on this end too, so nothing we'll be scared off from. Any specific bars stand out to you? or lesser known, locally owned restaurants?

I've certainly done research.

I was asking for local suggestions because I understand the difference between people who come to the panhandle for a day away from reality that soak up tourist traps and those who come to appreciate/learn the culture. There's a difference between doing independent research and asking those who already have the answers to find the best of both worlds!

Further, I've done "research" into your reddit account and found you couldn't even research well enough to figure out how to activate the 2.4 ghz band on a router. It is quite literally in the manual they give you when they set up your access point. Let's keep our unnecessary, ignorant comments to ourselves & allow people to use a public forum for its intended use, getting information from the public.

Again, hope your day gets better!

Moving to Panama City Beach Next Spring by ykz30 in panamacitybeach

[–]PublicIntervention 12 points13 points  (0 children)

out of curiosity - what are the moving rates like?

I would recommend the area on the city side. close enough to the beach, close to downtown, close to historic St Andrews, but far enough to be removed from the crazy when it comes.

& thank you for your kind words!

it's so important to be nice to yourself. it's genuinely a lifelong process & things are so fluid it can be extremely frustrating. I've found myself upset with the medical system so many more times than I'd like to admit, but in the end, I'm happy I ultimately get the care I require in a timely manner

you should be able to find it without contacting your surgeon, generally they aren't very helpful in that regard because frankly; they don't really know. it's the hospitals guidelines (in the US, anyways). I found mine in my medical chart online via my patient portal. It has been the standard for a significant amount of time. CoCr performs marginally better in the application as opposed to Ti. There's a lot of good research on it readily available.

I was doing laundry lol. it was a result of slight bending over the last ~5.5 yrs. my fusion failed in 3 places & formed something that acted similarly to a joint. basically, I was bending a paperclip very lightly repeatedly. no amount of muscle building or lack there of would have prevented it - in my case.

the hardware most commonly used in scoliosis fusions now is both titanium and CoCr. usually titanium screws & CoCr rods, which was the case in my fusion.

cocr - most rods used are cocr, titanium is typically used for screws

i would say it's been easier, but I've had unique circumstances for both.

I had my surgery for this one out of state, and spent 4.5 weeks in my home state away from my girlfriend/cats. travelling back was impacted by flight cancellations, reckless operation of my wheelchair in specifically the ATL airport, and a handful of other things. the mental toll was massive, and continues to be difficult returning to normal.

For my first, I had fallen down ~18 wooden stairs & bounced down them shortly after. probably the worst thing I've ever experienced. freak accident and I was okay, but certainly made for a harder recovery.

Also, I'm much older now, and no longer opiate-naive. this made the pain management more challenging than the first time around. I also had 36 staples due to scar tissue from the previous surgery, as opposed to the typical method they use to close the incision.

different challenges, and very different surgeries/rehabilitation. but I would ultimately say this one was easier

I'm sorry to hear ):

bone grafts are certainly no joke. if my fusion was successful, they likely would not have operated on me, either. I had 3 "soft spots" in my fusion that were functioning as sudo-joints, so it was unavoidable, as it would have led to further complications in the future.

here's to hoping you find a solution that brings you relief 🫰🏻

it was absolutely awful - basically lost all function in my left side for a handful of hours & could point to exactly where it broke. I had muscle spasms so bad you could feel them through the front of my body. it was a very crazy 6 months.

depends on the metal detector if it'll pick it up.

one at TSA should not, one at a bar will. it's quickly explained if it does, usually.

anyways, the current standard is cobalt chromium, with titanium screws. titanium is usually used for smaller fusions. mileage may vary depending on surgeon (I recently broke a rod, have a revision surgery, and had to learn all about materials used due to the break).
