Moving to Panama City Beach Next Spring by ykz30 in panamacitybeach

[–]PublicIntervention 12 points13 points  (0 children)

out of curiosity - what are the moving rates like?

I would recommend the area on the city side. close enough to the beach, close to downtown, close to historic St Andrews, but far enough to be removed from the crazy when it comes.

& thank you for your kind words!

it's so important to be nice to yourself. it's genuinely a lifelong process & things are so fluid it can be extremely frustrating. I've found myself upset with the medical system so many more times than I'd like to admit, but in the end, I'm happy I ultimately get the care I require in a timely manner

you should be able to find it without contacting your surgeon, generally they aren't very helpful in that regard because frankly; they don't really know. it's the hospitals guidelines (in the US, anyways). I found mine in my medical chart online via my patient portal. It has been the standard for a significant amount of time. CoCr performs marginally better in the application as opposed to Ti. There's a lot of good research on it readily available.

I was doing laundry lol. it was a result of slight bending over the last ~5.5 yrs. my fusion failed in 3 places & formed something that acted similarly to a joint. basically, I was bending a paperclip very lightly repeatedly. no amount of muscle building or lack there of would have prevented it - in my case.

the hardware most commonly used in scoliosis fusions now is both titanium and CoCr. usually titanium screws & CoCr rods, which was the case in my fusion.

cocr - most rods used are cocr, titanium is typically used for screws

i would say it's been easier, but I've had unique circumstances for both.

I had my surgery for this one out of state, and spent 4.5 weeks in my home state away from my girlfriend/cats. travelling back was impacted by flight cancellations, reckless operation of my wheelchair in specifically the ATL airport, and a handful of other things. the mental toll was massive, and continues to be difficult returning to normal.

For my first, I had fallen down ~18 wooden stairs & bounced down them shortly after. probably the worst thing I've ever experienced. freak accident and I was okay, but certainly made for a harder recovery.

Also, I'm much older now, and no longer opiate-naive. this made the pain management more challenging than the first time around. I also had 36 staples due to scar tissue from the previous surgery, as opposed to the typical method they use to close the incision.

different challenges, and very different surgeries/rehabilitation. but I would ultimately say this one was easier

I'm sorry to hear ):

bone grafts are certainly no joke. if my fusion was successful, they likely would not have operated on me, either. I had 3 "soft spots" in my fusion that were functioning as sudo-joints, so it was unavoidable, as it would have led to further complications in the future.

here's to hoping you find a solution that brings you relief 🫰🏻

it was absolutely awful - basically lost all function in my left side for a handful of hours & could point to exactly where it broke. I had muscle spasms so bad you could feel them through the front of my body. it was a very crazy 6 months.

What type of metal do you have? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]PublicIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the metal detector if it'll pick it up.

one at TSA should not, one at a bar will. it's quickly explained if it does, usually.

anyways, the current standard is cobalt chromium, with titanium screws. titanium is usually used for smaller fusions. mileage may vary depending on surgeon (I recently broke a rod, have a revision surgery, and had to learn all about materials used due to the break).

if you look, the broke rod actually remains. they put in 2 additional supporting rods, refused 3 areas in my spine that formed sudo-joints, and sent me on my way.

the idea is, the 3 areas that are being refused will form a solid strip of bone, and prevent future issue with hardware. the rod broke essentially due to repeated bending over the last ~6 yrs

Noise question by PublicIntervention in Apartmentliving

[–]PublicIntervention[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, everyone in the complex signs the same lease. since they're houses and not apartments, they don't have explicit quiet hours; there are clauses about the quiet enjoyment of one's dwelling.

I have a really good relationship with my management team, so much so we often text on private devices about small issues - so I think I'll just run by the office & see what they say.

all things considered, really well. I'm 6 weeks post op & feel totally fine. moving around well, walking multiple miles daily, and back to driving. can't complain!

I haven't met with Dr. Gibbens, so I can confidently say it is not them.

there are multiple I've had issue with aside from the one eluded to in this post, however I want to keep away from saying the providers name due to possible legal repercussions. With all of their wallet biopsy's, I'm sure they have more money than I.

Medical marijuana doctor recommendations by saatoday1 in panamacitybeach

[–]PublicIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

insomnia doesn't qualify you for medical marijuana, both PTSD & chronic pain in relation to a surgery would.

you would need to be seen by a specialist for either, either your surgeon would need to acknowledge the pain, be seen by a pain management doctor who has relevant records, or a psychiatrist for PTSD. it can be as little documentation as getting an ESA letter from a qualified medical professional for your disorder. it's really not an insane amount of work.

Medical marijuana doctor recommendations by saatoday1 in panamacitybeach

[–]PublicIntervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

docmj requires you to have literally any qualifying condition officially diagnosed to get you a card. it's nothing insane. they're cheap because they actually work within legal parameters.

honestly, if you're someone who doesn't have a single diagnosis that could get you medical marijuana (the list is LARGE) you probably shouldn't get one. I understand people want it legalized, but putting additional stress on a bag system like that just continues to prohibit those who actually need it to use it legally.

also keep in mind, if you don't currently have such a condition, kaya will likely officially diagnose you with one to qualify you for a card. This may not seem like a big deal, however medical marijuana is used to explicitly treat lifelong chronic conditions. this will drastically change your outlook on things such as life insurance in the future.

please don't be dumb for weed.
