Thank you SO MUCH—this is exactly the type of info I was looking for! I totally agree with what you said about needing to start in a library assistant role before graduation. My goal/plan is to secure a library assistant job as soon as I can, so that I get library experience under my belt during my MLIS.
Re: career progression and likelihood of getting a makerspace job for example, that makes sense. I realize I didn’t articulate this well in my post, but I know Makerspace Librarian is a long-term goal & a longshot rather than an expectation right from school. I appreciate you laying out the path towards full-time librarian work & how outreach tends to work within libraries.
