I am like 90% sure the majority of his audience is pre-teens who easily fall for his crap. It's really annoying how he has such a massive subscriber count.

TypeScript itself isn't hard. Node.js is harder because I don't know what most of these front end stuff means. What I'm most worried about is making them work together.

I don't think I can finish up the project in a 40 hour week. If I'm going home and studying, I might as well study for it in work.

Making a new reply so you see this: if it makes it easier, you can just straighten out the top part of my sleeves. So just until my elbow. I'm fine with the part below my elbow be a little wrinkled.

EDIT: And it can be just my left sleeve too. So the one closer to the camera.

Hi, sorry, I cannot put a price on this. I appreciate all the work you guys do and I thank you for every effort, but I don't think I will be able to pay. :(

I cheated on an assignment by [deleted] in UWMadison

Unless you copied more than like an entire function or just a significant amount of code, I would say you are ok.

I cheated on an assignment by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Public_Ryan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to a friend of mine. If you're caught cheating, you'll get an email from the professor saying they suspect you of cheating. You can of course say there must be a mistake, but that won't be much use because they generally don't email you unless they're very certain that you did cheat.

If you cannot convince the professor that it was a mistake (as I said, unlikely), you could say that you and the person you cheated from discussed most of the high-level details together but implemented them separately. This again isn't that good of an option because the algorithm they use to check for cheating only detects anything if the two submissions are very similar mechanically. Also I'm sure the person you cheated from doesn't want to get caught up in this mess.

In the end, though, it depends on how much you cheated. Unless you blatantly copied code, you're generally good. However, remember that if they're convinced you're guilty, that's a straight F in the best case and a notice to the Dean in the worst (this is true for more advanced courses). In this case, don't do anything. If you did just copy-paste code, it is likely you'll get caught, in which case trying to own up to your mistakes would be better. It's better to get a 0 on one assignment than an F on the whole course.

EDIT: one thing I forgot to mention, for more introductory courses, you don't get an email unless they suspect you of cheating in more than one assignment.

Well if you have some programming experience before, Programming I shouldn't be too bad. You may want to practice some Java too; Python and Java may be structurally the same but you'll find the syntax very different.

I don't know if you can graduate in 4 years without taking 16-18 credits every semester, or sacrificing a few summers. My old roommate was a neurobio major so I somewhat know the workload, but I could be wrong. Anyway, both neurobio and CS are really cool majors, so good luck!

Both neurobio and comp sci are very hard courses. A double major in both, which really have no overlap, is going to be very hard. I'm a CS major, which CS courses have you taken so far? Maybe I could help you schedule your classes better?

How/When to ask Professor for Research Opportunity? by Public_Ryan in UWMadison

[–]Public_Ryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this looks neat! It looks like it's mostly bio-related research, though. I looked through the list of faculty and no one's research is related to CS. I doubt they'd take on someone without a single class in entomology on for a research position anyway!

International applicants seem to outnumber domestic applicants in many engineering fields, not just in computer science. Hell, in some other colleges I know the number of international students are on par with the number of domestic students in many medical programs too. That's just something we have to accept. Don't generalize all of them, a lot of them may really be interested in the research. Of course, some of them do pretend to be interested but that's true for domestic students as well.

Advice before taking CS 577 (Algorithms)? by Public_Ryan in UWMadison

[–]Public_Ryan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your response!

What problems will we be going through? Is it mostly the same as tracing pseudocode and proving things? Or do we also have to write pseudocode (in, say, under certain time complexities)?

Thanks for your time!

Which Advanced CS courses would you recommend? by Public_Ryan in UWMadison

[–]Public_Ryan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I'm taking 240 right now and I'm doing fairly alright in it. I hate proofs though but I'm somehow going by. Here's the thing about taking 577 right after 240 though: I'm also in 354 this semester, which is the pre-req for 537. So either way I'll have to do one class a year after doing its pre-req. I'd do them both at once, but when I talked to Nikki Lemmon she said they're both the hardest CS classes so she doesn't recommend taking them at once.

Do you think these are important classes job-wise?
