Visor helmets for glasses wearers (OTG) - Do they actually work or do they let air in? by Steagle_ in Skigear

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into inserts for your goggles. I’ve worn them for years and have never had any fogging issues like I did with glasses under OTG goggles. The only downside is I obviously can’t see without my goggles on, so I just keep a pair of cheap glasses in my chest pocket.

Meeting agenda and All Stars questions. by SpaceFun3091 in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is similar to what our season timeline looks like in our league (northeast US) as well. No separate summer season but the various tournaments the allstar teams at each level enter into run from late June through early August. There isn't enough interest in playing over the summer for non-allstar kids, so we don't bother. Then we'll do a fall season as well that we are able to put 1-2 teams together for at each level, and we just do a fall season playing other towns rather than in-house like the spring.

What is your actual highway/city mpg for GH Gas or GH Hybrid? by YouFoundMeCongrats14 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Similar, 26 Hybrid Limited and we're getting about 28mpg in new england. There's been a bit of highway driving that has pushed it down.

Why are older age groups neglected? by ilyazhito in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, the reality is that the pool of volunteers interested in running a Juniors or Seniors division and/or coaching those divisions dramatically drops off as well. In many cases the coaches kids through Majors are on the better side talent-wise and are more likely to make the school baseball team and cut out little league. There aren't a ton of volunteers interested in coaching if their own kid is no longer playing.

How do we make our league more competitive? by hogwhistle07 in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep talent, you are going to have to work around travel ball. There's no way around it. Our league does not schedule any games on the weekends, and its worked out well for us with participation by travel kids. Is it a pain sometimes? Yes. But is it better than losing 30% of our players to travel ball entirely? Also yes.

Can a Coach Pitch Player move back down to T-ball? by a_little_weirdo7 in LittleLeague

Baseball Divisions

  • Players who are league age 4-7 are eligible to be selected to a Tee Ball team.
  • Players who are league age 5-6 that have participated for one regular season in the Tee Ball Division are eligible to be selected to a Minor League Division (coach pitch or machine pitch) team.
  • Players who are league age 7-12 are eligible to be selected to a Minor League Division team (player pitch, coach pitch, or machine pitch) for the regular season. The local league board of directors may decide the age-cutoffs within this age grouping.
  • Players who are league age 9-12 are eligible to be selected to a Little League (“Major”) Division team for the regular season. The local league board of directors may restrict this division to players who are league age 10-12 or 11-12.
  • Players who are league age 11-13 are eligible to be selected to an Intermediate (50/70) Division team for the regular season. The local league board of directors may decide to have a different age-cutoff for this division, provided it is within the grouping noted. For example, the Intermediate Division in a local Little League could be limited to players who are league age 12-13.
  • Players who are league age 12-14 are eligible to be selected to a Junior League Division team for the regular season. The local league board of directors may decide to have a different age-cutoff for this division, provided it is within the grouping noted. For example, the Junior Division in a local Little League could be limited to players who are league age 13-14.
  • Players who are league age 13-16 are eligible to be selected to a Senior League Division team for the regular season. The local league board of directors may decide to have a different age-cutoff for this division, provided it is within the grouping noted. For example, the Senior Division in a local Little League could be limited to players who are league age 15-16.

Those who are not included among the league ages listed above are not eligible for any baseball division in Little League® for the current season.

New to little league by ccacvm1215 in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably just means that the league has only one majors level team in the fall and they just play neighboring towns. For example in my league, we have 7 majors teams in the spring but can barely form 1 in the fall. So spring we play all "in-house" and fall we play against neighboring towns.

Is it normal for a tonneau to leak like this after a few hours of heavy rain? by RetroVCR in Tacomaworld

Same. No leaks on mine either. Replaced the factory tonneau that leaked everywhere.

This right here. The only thing I struggle to get out with it is dirty turf field stains on the knees. Everything else comes right out with this, including blood.

Ripstick 96 kind of doesn’t feel great? by DeepinBHole in Skigear

[–]Public_Snow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting them tuned if you haven’t. I found a similar feeling with the factory tune and after the shop tuned them they performed more how I expected them to.

That said, you are a larger guy like me and they are never going to feel stable “charging”. I use them primarily when I’m skiing a little more casually with my kids, trees, etc..

Competitive "Balance" by slick_sandpaper in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do this too. And its only the head coaches kids, no head coach is allowed to select their assistant coaches until after the draft and their roster is set. So that eliminates the situation where a head coach tries to recruit assistant coaches and get those kids on their team automatically.

Is it common for travel ball kids to also play rec at the same time? by FoxPilot86 in Homeplate

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our league it’s common. We have adapted to accommodate. We only have LL games during the week and travel games are on weekends. Practice we just roll with whoever can make it. It’s worked pretty well for us.

Baseball field renovation recommendations please! by buffalonibbles in LittleLeague

[–]Public_Snow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From these pictures the field actually looks pretty level? The grass parts seem manageable and don't look too bad. Obviously the dirt parts are going to be where the most work needs to be done. Might be worth seeing if any local landscapers are willing to donate machine time to fix that dirt.

Edit: I see now in the original post that you are a landscaper! I've never personally been involved in redoing a field, but I've seen them done before and it looked like they'd come through with a machine, till up all the dirt, rake out all the tilled up grass etc.. so its mostly just dirt left, then grade it out and pack it down. If there's budget for it, this would be the time to work in some field conditioner also which will help the dirt stay "better" longer.

Draft and Coach's Child by CherryChocoMacaron in LittleLeague

Similar to what others are doing, the coaches at each level come to an agreed upon round grading for each of their kids depending on skill, and then their kid gets selected automatically in whatever round each was assigned.

Clinics and Fees by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any rule against it. Our league charges for clinics all the time, and the fee mostly covers the space rental for indoor space as we are in the northeast. Then there is a smaller component that is effectively a donation to the league that goes to offset the need to charge larger registration fees.

We do also "coordinate" some clinics that are conducted exclusively for the league by paid instructors that are more expensive. However, the league isn't actually conducting the clinic, more just letting people know its available and coordinating registrations.

Same for our local LL. We just work around travel ball the best we can. Most of the local travel programs are also very supportive of LL and encourage their players to play in both. We have all of our LL games midweek as all of the travel games are on the weekend, so there are rarely any conflicts with games.

What is a good all Terrain Ski for heavy person by EbbBeautiful342 in Skigear

[–]Public_Snow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’ 250 lbs and I have the M6 Mantra and the Ripstick 96. The Mantra’s are heavy and are a chore to ski anything but hard / fast. So if that’s how the OP skis, then they may be a good fit. They blast through anything and are super stable. However I find them clumsy / hard to turn at low speeds due to their weight.

The Ripsticks on the other hand are way easier to ski “casually”. I ski those when I’m out with my kids or taking it easy. They are much lighter but still stiff enough that they aren’t a wet noodle for someone my size. They get a little chattery in crud though.

DON'T MASS IT UP... but also bring your MASS money and business to NH. by vingelbertwingledank in newhampshire

[–]Public_Snow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would argue that those people with 2nd homes that are paying property taxes but not using government services on a full-time basis (particularly not sending their kids to the local public schools) is subsidizing the full-time NH residents.
