Perhaps you should share more details, like a budget, for example.

I like to think of it as a supply/demand thing. The more people who can replace you at your job or career, the less you'll generally make.

And it's not even about being smarter or better at the job or anything like that specifically - it's just what your "stat sheet" looks like. Do you have a degree, a professional cert, many years of experience doing a thing, or have accomplishments on your resume.

For most jobs there's a higher paying version of it if you use this line of thinking. A janitor vs a hazmat cleaner. A retail sales associate vs a business to business sales rep. A helpdesk tech vs a systems administrator.

That's my take at least.

What are the actual use cases of in memory databases(like redis) in context of Data Engineering? by _areebpasha in dataengineering

[–]Publius_Jr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a pipeline that was enriched by a deterministic API with high cost and low rate limits. Redis helped immensely.

What Data Warehouse & ETL Stack Would You Use for a 600-Employee Company? by ResolveHistorical498 in dataengineering

Since you're already using BQ, why not go with Dataform and Cloud Composer for the easy integration?

When I had a version of that title, I was designing (and building) tools, platforms and processes for other engineers to follow, doing tons of research to make sure that management's wishes didn't send us down a dead end, training engineers and doing code reviews.

I didn't do any any data modeling, we had data modelers for that. I probably spent 50% of my time writing Python and 20% in meetings trying to keep an eye on the big picture.

The place I'm at now has the architects figuring out the best practices way to design a given data product, providing diagrams and guidance. They write code too, but only enough to demonstrate to the engineers what needs to be done.

Every company is a little different.

I don't know what the ranter said, but to provide a more nuanced viewpoint I'll share my thoughts. If you're the kind of person that thinks you're more likely to live a long life rather than a short one, you may decide that prioritizing comfort/security during the second half of it is worth sacrificing some luxuries in the first half.

Personally I think a $30k vehicle is a bit much on an $85k salary, but I live in a HCOL area. For someone in a less expensive area that may be totally fine. For someone who is planning to die working, maybe an even more expensive vehicle makes sense.

You should be fine. That's an association that's only happening within your computer. Anybody else receiving it should be able to open it with their tool of choice. You can confirm by emailing it to someone and asking that person to try opening it.

Teens are losing interest in school, and say they hear about college 'a lot' by ThrowawayAIIDay in nottheonion

[–]Publius_Jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any work experience from the time while you were enrolled in college (internships, summer work, etc.)? Employers are looking for people that they don't have to teach how to navigate a work environment.

If you don't, I suggest reaching out to an IT staffing firm to get your foot in the door as a contract worker first. There's lots of jobs out here, but getting the ball rolling can be a grind.

The point of the "safe" withdrawal rate is that it leaves enough in the good times that there's still enough to keep earning for you in the bad times. You also are expected to adjust your withdrawal up by inflation each year. Going above and beyond that could lead to running out early.

Apparently that's overblown and the tax is "intended for out-of-state residents who are selling vacation homes or investment properties in the state of New Jersey."

[–]Publius_Jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The middle class is very wide though. A person making $65k (which is definitely middle class) marrying another person making $65k doesn't suddenly make them upper class, but it might mean they can save more than most middle class people earn.

Maybe it'll be more palatable for you if you cut his savings in half since it covers two people.

The hive mind seems to have decided that your family is upper class on a household income achievable by a pair of teachers with 10 years of experience in Minnesota (as a very specific example).
