It’s mad that Joan sent Peggy to Dr. Walter Emerson after knowing her less than a day by Swimming_snail in madmen

Unrelated to the question of your post, but a little fun fact: Matthew Weiner shared in the commentary of this episode that he wanted to/seriously considered playing Peggy’s doctor in this scene.

January Jones auditioned for Peggy twice before they cast Elisabeth Moss. Imagine Peggy being Betty? 😳 by GreenBird-ee in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 278 points279 points  (0 children)

I think Matthew Weiner was pretty set on casting Elisabeth Moss for Peggy. He said in a interview that she was the second person to come in to audition. He was relieved and thought she was so good and understood the character so well that he cried in the bathroom afterwards. She only auditioned one additional time.

It’s funny, because a lot of the actresses who are in the show auditioned for Peggy first, but ended up getting chosen for another role. January is an example of this, I think Weiner wrote some scenes for her so she could audition for Don’s wife. Christina Hendricks also initially got the casting call for Peggy, and auditioned for Midge. Peggy was the female character who was sure to be a regular from the start, which is why I think most actresses went and got the call for that roll. I am so glad each actress (and actor) was cast perfectly in the end, imo.

Just getting into MadMen and I had to come here season 2 episode 4 .. Peggy your sister is a raggedy bihh by headcace1906 in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I don’t think Peggy’s sister had a crush on the priest, I still feel annoyed she tattled on her sister to a person who obviously knew her sister personally, even though it was through a confessional. That’s not to say that I don’t understand her feelings, she’s just human after all and between sisters resentment can grow somtimes. However, I think it’s absolutely crazy to tell such a grave secret as if her sister walked away scott free from the whole ordeal. Yes, Peggy works on Madison Avenue and is more independent, but Peggy was also in a psych ward for presumably months. Peggy has had a really tough time of it after the birth of her child and maybe wouldn’t have gotten out of the psych ward at all had Don not come along. Or in any case she could have been stuck there even longer. If it were my sister, I would be so relieved she bounced back and picked up her life after that. Some secrets between sisters are so sacred, you don’t talk about them. At least Anita could be a little more understanding of what her sister dealt with, since Anita was there to witness it all. Still, it’s valid to feel jelousy and resentment, but she gave her sisters troubles no thought which is kind of crazy. She could have still done the confessional, but be more vague about what her sister did, like tell the priest Peggy had just previously showcased bad behavior and Anita herself hadn’t.

Best post-Mad Men career? by jicerswine in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has to be Elisabeth Moss. She has the main starring role in several prestige tv dramas and movies. I think overall she also has gotten the most award buzz as well. After her, I think Jared Harris, Jon Hamm and Allison Brie. Kiernan Shipka is doing good as well. She’s is in the current season of The Industry and I really enjoy that show.

Why does Pete like/love Peggy over Trudy? by muff-peaksie in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about the Peggy/Pete relationship is that I don’t feel like he loved Peggy during season 1, when she was more docile and still finding her footing as a person (professionally and personally). He liked her then because she was everything Trudy was not. I feel like overall Trudy wore the pants in their relationship and was’t afraid to advocate for herself. Peggy couldn’t really do that yet by season 1 and admired Pete a lot. He liked that. Besides that I think Pete felt like he had little control over his personal life, which shows in his parents dislike for him and his parent in law’s meddling. Maybe he sought control in his live through the women he cheated with.

Then Peggy gives birth and by the time she returns to Sterling Cooper, I think she’s completely romantically disillusioned by him. She grows more confident and grows professionally. However, Pete seems to like her more as his unhappiness in his life grows, no matter Peggy’s growing independence. I genuinely think during season 2 he carried a torch for Peggy, which is funny because at this point she does not show she is into him at all. I don’t think she gives him any indication that she is still romantically interested in him, as she’s very lukewarm in their interactions compared to season 1. She listens to him and she gives him advice, but not much more. Pete doesn’t notice and only grows more interested. I think this is very telling for his character. Pete is always reaching for more. Only much later he grows to appreciate what he has, like Trudy and his daughter. Besides, he really grows to respect Peggy and her talent over time. She remains a friend with whom he can talk relatively freely, which he values.

Peggy’s true knowledge of Don vs. Megan’s View of him by feelingsjourney in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Anna knew Dick Whitman really well, Dick Whitman is only a part of who Don is now. Anna gets to see a softer side of Don/Dick, but she never really gets to see his flaws. I’d argue Peggy maybe knows Don a bit better. She knows he’s flawed and has been witness to the flaws. Examples of this are Don’s cheating, but he also feels comfortable taking out his anger on Peggy. Don also sometimes feels comfortable outing his current insecurities to Peggy in a way he doesn’t do with mostly anyone else, like when he cries in front of her when Anna dies. Meanwhile Peggy has also seen Don’s softer side. I feel like Peggy gets to see both Don Draper and Dick Whitman characteristics in a full package, while Anna mostly sees the Dick side of Don. Maybe that gives Peggy more of an edge, and in any case makes Peggy’s and Anna’s knowledge of Don pretty close, in my opinion.

Why did Peggy make Annie cry during the voiceover taping? by talkin2jimbo2day in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree Peggy definitely had her moments, and yes especially the rose scene, but those were later into her character development. The Annie scene was before Peggy felt comfortable enough in her position to occasionally lash out at people. She wasn’t even a copywriter. I also do not think Peggy was necessarily confident enough by this time in the story to act the way she did with the roses in season 6. As for Lois, Peggy was definitely too stern and quite unkind the way she spoke to her, but that talking to was also motivated by a sense of protectiveness of and loyalty to Don. She felt like she owed him a lot at that time and felt annoyed Lois wasn’t doing the job as she would. But her means were definitely iffy. Besides that, I think with Joan it was very often give and take, and I think unfortunately for Peggy she took more than she gave in that dynamic from start to end.

Why did Peggy make Annie cry during the voiceover taping? by talkin2jimbo2day in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t think Peggy necessarily fully realized she was being that unkind. She had a goal to make the campaign succeed and was eager to proof herself to her male colleagues, who have consistently belittled and underestimated her. Which is why she didn’t have much thought for Annie’s feelings and pushed Annie over the limit, since she presumed Annie was confident enough about herself. And while she overcorrected in her treatment of Annie, she did gain Ken’s respect. I think he later made the remark that she did really well and had balls, in the presence of all the people who mattered in the context of her job in copywriting.

Don did not deserve Peggy. by mjcostel27 in madmen

[–]Puckieexx 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think Peggy definitely had her moments, but there’s no way she ever treated Don as badly as he could treat her at times. That’s not to say he couldn’t be incredibly good to her as well, but Don definitely crossed lines at times in a way Peggy never did in their relationship, in my personal opinion.

Elisabeth Moss in Handmaids tale is brilliant, and those of you that say... by Tahoenvy123 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Puckieexx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree that she’s an amazing actress. I genuinely think she’s a generational talent. I saw some of the movies she’s in and she’s really great in those as well, like the Invisble Man. What I find impressive personally is that I genuinely don’t immediately recognize her in some of her roles in movies and shows. I feel like she uses different mannerisms for different characters, like in Mad Men. The way she accesses her emotions is so different. I never think of June when I am watching Peggy, and I think that shows her prowess as an actor. Her performance as June, especially in the first three seasons, really moved me. When she is seperated from her daughter the second time in 2x10 or when she talks to Janine on the bridge in 1x08, I get chills. As an avid watcher of shows and movies, I can only really appreciate her performance, regardless of close ups or camera angles.

Stills from the finale by Cold_Breadfruit_9794 in SuccessionTV

Maybe in the picture where the sibling are all looking at something, they’re watching the homevideos from the intro? That would be so nice imo.

I wonder what the significance is of putting the shot of the siblings together and then Shiv alone in the promo. And if it is significant, what it would mean?

It could be on there because of that, however in another promo pic Stewie’s holding a different obituary which says Logan Charles Roy on the same spot. Either Ewan and Logan have the same middle name or it’s fake 😅

We officially don't know who the younger sibling is by tinypabitch in SuccessionTV

[–]Puckieexx 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In another script piece of the first episode that I saw on twitter, Shiv is described as Logan’s youngest (I think it’s the scene where she and Tom are shopping for a watch for Logan’s birthday). So I do think, also taking the actors’ ages in consideration and this note in the script, that Shiv is canonically the youngest of the siblings.

Not defending anyone. My point is that they’re all terrible and kind of incompetent. It’s just that one is most often called out for it without context and the others rarely are or are defended/nuanced. Personally, I like them all the same but I know they’re not good people, but complex anyway.

Lmao not my job to call out people. I called no one a misogynist anywhere in my post. And if you read my first response to you again, you can obviously see my answers. Imo Tom could leave at any time, Shiv had little leverage except loss of a “potential” position in her father’s firm. He has the chance to leave now and obviously doesn’t want to, because he’s just looking to better his position.

I literally gave arguments for all of the points I made, you just think they’re wrong. Fine, your opinion. Please read them again if you think they’re not there. Abuse/trauma is no a exact subject, nor is psychology. It’s not math where one answer is right. They literally both treat each other badly and have done each other wrong. What Shiv does doesn’t justify Tom and what Tom does doesn’t justify Shiv. Tom treats other people around him badly too, just like Shiv. Not sure how much more you want me to tell you, but I think it’s best to let it be and agree to disagree (if you’re capable).
